The RC Church Needs Divine Wisdom

(Comments welcome here)

  Darlene's background

In Monday’s Gospel Reading from John, Chapter 8, verses 1-11, we see that Jesus confounds the Pharisees and scribes when they bring a woman before Him supposedly caught in adultery. The religious leaders determine that the woman should be stoned and inquire of Jesus’s opinion. Jesus suggests to them, that the person who throws the first stone, ought to be the one, who is without sin. The religious accusers simply go away one by one. This Gospel account of Jesus with the Pharisees and scribes, reveals the Lord’s Divine Wisdom and is just one of the many, many stories throughout the Gospels, that does so. The fascination for me in the Gospels, is the Lord’s Divine Wisdom and His application of it in all sorts of circumstances, but, particularly when He’s dealing with the scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees. The scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees just cannot compete with the Lord’s thinking, though they are presumed to be the learned men of the Jewish faith.

What we need so very urgently in the RC Church is Divine Wisdom. Yes, Pope Francis touches on it, and has done the best that he can, but, we, as the RC Church, are still a long way from hearing and acting on Divine Wisdom. Unless, we truly "live, and move, and have our being in Christ", we are very sadly going to deprive ourselves of Divine Wisdom, which is the only force that can propel the Church into total renewal and transformation.
