Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone

(Comments welcome here)

  Darlene's background

Mondays Gospel reading is the story of the vineyard owner who leaves his property in the trust of the tenant farmers. The owner, upon harvest time, sends several servants to collect produce from the land. The servants are either beaten up or killed. Finally, the owner sends his son, thinking that the tenant farmers would respect his beloved son, but, he too, is killed. This is a story that is told by Jesus in the presence of the Pharisees. They grasp what the Lord is saying about himself and are naturally disturbed by this story and want to arrest Jesus, but, they wait for another opportunity. Jesus refers to himself as the "stone rejected by the builders, the cornerstone."

Unfortunately, Jesus Christ, being the rejected "cornerstone" is not old news. We are witnesses and observers every day, the world over, of the rejection of Jesus Christ.

Committed Christians, and in our case, committed Roman Catholic Christians are charged with a divine purpose to bring Christ and the Good News every day. Yesterday, was Trinity Sunday. We need the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to guarantee that Jesus Christ is always the Cornerstone.

The RC Church is also challenged to keep Jesus Christ as the "cornerstone". Over and over again, we see Pope Francis pointing to Jesus Christ as the Cornerstone, reinforcing that the Church’s life and purpose is to promote Jesus Christ and the Good News.
