Interestingly, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, coincides with the Gospel today of Jesus forgiving the sins of the woman who anointed His feet with oil. The woman, who enters the house where Jesus was dining, openly and generously displays her love for Jesus, not only applying oil to His feet, but, kissing them as well. Jesus tells her that her sins are forgiven, and explains to His host, a religious leader, that because the woman has loved much, she has been forgiven much. Naturally, only God can forgive sins, and so Jesus, is, once more, pointing to who He is, much to the displeasure of the Jewish religious leader.
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross demonstrates to us all, how much God loves us. He loves us to the degree of laying down His life. So, we too, are called to love much. In loving much, we are also forgiven much!
May the Holy Spirit continue to pour the love of God into our hearts, so that we are always inspired to love much!
