Dear Friends
For some reason I can't get very excited about the Olympic Games beginning tonight. So many other things are happening in the world, so many things that need urgent attention....it's getting more difficult to justify the Olympics in their present form
Maybe I'll change my mind as the week goes on. I've always been keen on sport. Maybe that's the problem: the Olympics are not so much sport any more ....they have become too professional and so unhealthily competitive
And in this part of the world (China)....young athletes being selected while children....taken away from their families....put in 24/7 sports' institutes....expected to get gold medals in their teens
