Dear Friends
If you are arrested in the UK for being in possession of more than 600 grams of cocaine or heroin, you face a maximum time in prison of 9 years. A plea of "guilty" will reduce that time by one third...changing 9 to 6 years. For good behaviour there's a further reduction of one half...so you'll be out in 3 years
If you are arrested in HK for being in possession of more than 600 grams of cocaine or heroin, you face a maximum time in prison of 23 years (25 if you are a foreigner .."the international element"). A plea of "guilty" will reduce that time by one third...changing 23 to 15 years. For good behaviour there's a further reduction of one third...so you'll be out in 10 years
Question:
why is HK's justice system three times harsher than the UK's?
Answer: I don't know, but I'm hoping to keep looking into this issue.
