Tues Feb 12
Since yesterday was World Day of the Sick (and the Feast of Our
Lady of Lourdes) I made a special point of visiting the custodial section of
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, praying for Jesus' healing love on a special day.
Update from Fr Ramon O.M.I. about bombing of
Jolo cathedral on Jan 27:
This morning (Monday Feb 11) I will fly onward to Jolo with Fr. Charlie Inzon.
I have spent Sat and Sunday here in Zamboanga City, visiting the 7 injured who
are still in two hospitals.
One Muslim man who was among these seven, died last night from his head injuries. He had a shoe-repair stall just outside the Cathedral when the second bomb exploded. I met his wife and 2 daughters.
Among the six remaining in the hospitals are 2 members of the Coast Guard who suffered severe burns, and one Army soldier who had his leg amputated. There is also a mother who had both her legs amputated. Her 10-year old daughter is also still recuperating in the hospital. Sadly, her other 14-year old daughter had died in the blast. The mother was told of this only the other day.
Aside from those in the hospitals, there are 8 more who are under the direct care of the Vicariate and OMI. They are staying at the dormitory of Notre Dame College. One is a 17-year old girl who had her right leg amputated. One couple is recuperating from their injuries. Another mother also has shrapnel injuries.
Former Provincial Larry de Guia is here in Zamboanga looking after the injured in the dorm. He himself dresses their wounds everyday. An Oblate of Notre Dame sister also assists the victims in their needs.
Several government and non-government agencies have extended assistance to the victims. The OMI Province has probably spent the most for the victims and is continuing to do so.
More to follow later, but am not sure about the internet signal once I am in Jolo.
Thank you for your prayers.

Samuel 25-31: Samuel died and was buried in his home town
of Ramah.
Saul continued to try to capture David. David and his band of 600 soldiers
spent more than a year in Philistine territory. They stayed with Achish, king of
Gath.
They fought against the enemies of Achish.
Achish sent David away when the Philistines
made war on Israel.
Saul and his son Jonathan died in this war.
Dear
God, please protect and help all refugees

Psalm
28: To you, O Lord, I call, my rock, hear me.
If you do not heed, I shall become like people in the grave. Lord, you are my strength and my
shield.
In you my heart trusts. Thank you, Lord, for so often hearing my
prayer.
I will always thank and praise you. You are the strength of your people Israel.
Save your people. Be our shepherd and carry us for ever.
Lord, please help people who
are in big danger today

Hebrews
7.1-28:
Melchizedek was king of Salem and a priest of
God. He blessed Abraham. Abraham gave Melchizedek 10% of all
he had. Melchizedek's priesthood continued down
the ages in people dedicated to the service of God. It reached its
perfection in the Son of God, the Eternal High Priest. The Son of God, our Lord, did not come from
the priestly tribe of Levi. Everyone knows he came from the tribe of Judah.
This is because he established a new
priesthood, coming not from Levi, but from Melchizedek. This is why the
prophecy was made of him "You are a priest of the order of
Melchizedek, for ever". Jesus' priestly power to save us is utterly
certain, since he is living for ever to intercede for all who come to God
through him
Jesus, Eternal High Priest, please help all
pastors and priests be more like you every day

Mark
9 & 10:
Some people brought their little
children to Jesus.
They hoped Jesus would put his hands on the children and bless them.
Jesus' disciples told the people to go away
and not bother Jesus.
But Jesus said "Don't stop the little children from coming to
me". Then he put his hands on them and blessed them. Jesus also said "Anyone who welcomes one
of these little children in my name, welcomes me. But anyone who causes
scandal to one of these little ones, commits a great
crime"
Jesus, please help all children
to know you from their earliest days.
Please don't let parents prevent children from coming to you.
Please heal children who have been scandalized by adults

Samuel 20-24: Jonathan again tried to help David make peace
with Saul.
But Saul was full of anger and just wanted to kill David. David then became a nomad, roaming from place
to place,
continually pursued by Saul's soldiers. David once had a chance to kill Saul
but David refused to kill him. David said: "Saul is the anointed one of
the Lord.
It is wrong for me to hurt him." Even though Saul hated and hunted David,
David respected and protected Saul.

Never give up. Remember how Abraham persevered in following

This hope is an anchor for us, a lifeline going right up to heaven.

10.1-12: One day some religious leaders put Jesus to the test by asking him
"Is it against the Law of Moses for a man to divorce his wife?" Jesus replied "God created male and
female, for the two to become united as one body. What God has
united, no one should separate." The religious leaders then asked
"But why did Moses allow divorce?" Jesus replied "Moses allowed divorce
because people were so hard of heart. But divorce was not God's
plan. So I say to you, anyone who walks out on their
partner and marries someone else, is guilty of adultery."

Isaiah 6: In the year 740 B.C.,
I had a vision of the Lord God in Heaven: Above the Lord were 6 angels who cried out
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God.
His glory fills the whole earth." Then I heard a voice asking
"Whom shall I send? Who will be our messenger?" I answered "Here I am, send
me." Then the Lord sent me to be a prophet to the
people.
Here I am, Lord, send me.
I'm willing to do anything you want me to do

Psalm
138: I thank you, Lord, with all my heart.
You have heard the words of my mouth. With the angels I will bless you.
I will adore you in your holy temple. I thank you for your faithfulness and love
which are far above what we can understand. On the day I called you answered.
You increased the strength of my soul. All earth's kings shall thank you
when they hear the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the Lord's ways:
"How great is the glory of the Lord!" Though I walk in the midst of affliction
you give me life and frustrate my foes. Your love, O Lord, is
eternal.
Do not abandon us whom you have made.
Lord, when we remember how much
you love us and help us, every day of the year is a Thanksgiving Day

Corinthians 15.9-11:
I am the least of the apostles. In fact, since
I persecuted the Church of God, I hardly deserve the name apostle. But by God's grace I am what I am, and the
grace that he gave me has not been fruitless. On the contrary, I, or rather the grace of God
in my heart, have worked harder than any of the others, preaching the
same message that they preach.
Jesus, may your grace in me be more fruitful

Luke
5.1-11: One day when Jesus was standing near the Lake
of Gennesaret, with people pressing round him listening to the word of
God, he saw two fishing boats near the bank. He got into one boat, it belonged to Simon
Peter, and taught people from the boat, away from the shore a little
distance. When he'd finished speaking he said to Simon
"Go out further to deep water and use your nets for a catch of
fish". Simon replied "Master, we worked hard all
night and caught nothing, but if you say so I'll lower the nets". They soon caught so many fish that the nets
began to tear. They called to their friends in the second boat to come and
help. Both boats were soon filled with fish. Peter fell at Jesus' knees and said
"Leave me, Lord, I am a sinful man", for he was overcome by the
catch they had made, as were James and John who were his partners. But Jesus said to Simon "Don't be afraid.
From now on, you will be fishers of men". Simon and his friends
then left everything to follow Jesus.
Jesus, bless and protect all
"fishers of men"

Saul's son Jonathan urged his father not to

1 Samuel 17: The Philistine and Israelite armies prepared for battle. The Philistines were on one hill, the Israelites on an opposite hill, with a valley between them. The Philistines produced a giant warrior, Goliath, who challenged the Israelites to find one man to fight him. Goliath said: "If I win, you become our slaves; if I am killed, we will become your slaves." For many weeks Goliath issued his challenge, but no Israelite soldier was brave enough to fight Goliath.
Then David visited the army camp and heard
Goliath's words.
He offered to fight Goliath. Some people made fun of David,
but David knew he would be helped by the
Lord. David took 5 smooth stones from the river bed
and with his sling in his hand he went to fight Goliath. When Goliath saw the young boy David,
Goliath insulted and ridiculed him. But David took out one of his stones
and slung it at Goliath. The stone hit Goliath on the forehead
and he dropped to the ground. David then used Goliath's sword to kill him
and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion
was dead,
they fled in fear, chased by the Israelites who defeated them. Saul put David in charge of his army
and David had many victories. David and Saul's son Jonathan became good
friends.

Psalm 22: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? I call to you for help, but day and night you give no reply. I am a worm and not a man. Everyone who sees me makes fun of me. They taunt me: "He trusted in the Lord, why doesn't the Lord help him?" Like water I am poured out, my bones no longer connected. My throat is parched, my tongue sticks to my jaws. Many evil people attack me. They make holes in my hands and my feet. They await my death. They divide my clothing among them, they throw a dice for my robe.
Yet I know Lord, that you are good and
holy.
I know how you heard the cries of our ancestors and you helped them. It was you who took me
from the womb
and entrusted me to my mother's breast.
To you I was committed from my birth,
from my mother's womb you have been my God. Lord, I trust in you even now.
I trust you will not scorn my prayer. Even now I praise you as my Creator.
May all the nations know and worship you.

9.14-29: A man brought his son to Jesus and pleaded:
"Master, there is a spirit of dumbness in
my son. When it takes hold of him, it throws him to the ground, and he
foams at the mouth and goes rigid". They brought the boy. As soon as the spirit
saw Jesus, it threw the boy into convulsions. Jesus asked the father "How long has this
been happening?"
He replied "From childhood .... please help us!" Jesus said "Everything is possible if you
have faith".
The father cried out "Please increase my faith!"
Jesus rebuked the evil spirit: "Deaf and
dumb spirit,
I command you: come out of him and never enter him again". The spirit came out, but the boy seemed to
have died. Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up. Jesus' disciples asked "Why were we
unable to expel that spirit?"
Jesus replied "Only prayer can drive out that kind of spirit"
Jesus, please help me pray

and spoke with him. Peter said to Jesus "Lord, how good it is for
us to be here!" Then a bright cloud covered them with its
shadow.
From the cloud came a voice:
"This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to
him." The disciples bowed to the ground.
When they got up, they saw only Jesus in his normal appearance.
Jesus,
how good it is to spend time with you
