Yesterday afternoon I attended two encouraging
meetings to do with my anti-drug campaign. As Pope Francis said a few years ago
in Mexico ... drug trafficking is like a cancer affecting society ... we must
keep up the fight against it. And see

Pope's
letter to young people:
25. Jesus' baptism was not like our
own, which introduces us to the life of grace, but a consecration prior to his
embarking on the great mission of his life. The Gospel says that at his baptism
the Father rejoiced and was well pleased: "You are my beloved
Son". Jesus immediately appeared filled with the Holy Spirit, and was
led by the Spirit into the desert. There he prepared to go forth to preach and
to work miracles, to bring freedom and healing. Every
young person who feels called to a mission in this world is invited to hear the
Father speaking those same words within his or her heart: "You are my
beloved child".

Proverbs
23-24: If someone invites you for a meal,
be careful not to make a pig of yourself. Don't waste your breath talking
to foolish people. Make sure your children receive a
wholesome discipline. Don't be a drunkard.
Don't be a glutton.
Avoid prostitution. Brains are better than brawn. If you make a big mistake and
fall, get up and start again.
Lord, please help me put
into practice the ideas in these words
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
33: Ring out your joy to the Lord, all good
people,
for praise is fitting for loyal hearts. For the Lord loves justice and right;
he fills the earth with his love. By his word the heavens were made,
he spoke and the universe came into being. They are happy, whose God is the Lord,
he is the source of all true joy. May your love be upon us, O Lord,
since we place all our trust in you.
Lord, we trust in your precious
love

Acts
22.24-29: Paul was taken into the soldiers' barracks.
The captain ordered Paul to be tortured to find out the truth about his
situation. But when they tied him down, Paul said
"Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen?
The captain said "It cost me a lot of
money to acquire Roman citizenship". Paul replied "I was
born a Roman citizen". Paul was untied without being flogged

Luke
23.44-49: At about midday, there was an eclipse of the
sun.
The whole land was in darkness until about 3pm. The veil of the Temple was torn right down the
middle. Jesus cried out in a loud voice "Father,
into your hands I entrust my life". Then he died.
When the Roman army leader saw what had
happened,
he said "This was a great and good man". The people who had been present went home
asking God for mercy. Jesus' friends
stood at a distance and saw all that had happened
Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for

People who go too quickly miss their way. Whoever is kind to the poor is kind to the
Lord.
The Lord will repay such kindness. Children at play

Psalm
32: Happy is the person whose sin is forgiven.

Acts
22.1-23: Paul said to the crowd "I am a Jew, born
in Tarsus. I was brought up here in Jerusalem. I studied under Gamaliel. I
fully observed the Law of our ancestors. I even persecuted this Way to the
death, and sent many people to prison.
But once when I was on my way to Damascus to arrest followers of the Way,
Jesus appeared to me and said 'I am Jesus the Nazarene, and you are
persecuting me'. Then a believer in Damascus told me I was to be Jesus'
witness in many places".
Up to now, the crowd had listened quietly to Paul, but when he said that
Jesus was sending him to non-Jews in far away places, the crowd shouted "Rid the earth of this man! He's not fit to live!"

Isaiah 62-66: The Lord says:
"My eyes are drawn to the humble and contrite person
who lovingly meditates on my word. Towards Jerusalem I will send peace,
flowing like a river. I am going to gather the nations of every language.
All peoples will know and love me

Psalms
66-68: O God, be gracious and bless us
and let your face shine its light upon us. Let all the peoples praise you, O God.
Let all the peoples praise you. O sing to the Lord, make music to his name.

Galatians
6.14-18:
As for me, the only thing I boast about is the
Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world is crucified to me,
and I to the world. It does not matter if a person is circumcised
or not.
What matters is that we become a new creature. From now on, I want no more trouble from you.
The scars on my body were suffered for the sake of Jesus. May his grace be with you
Jesus, may I look at everything in the world

Luke
10.1-9: Jesus appointed 72 disciples to go ahead of
him in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them "The harvest is rich, but
the laborers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to
his harvest. When you go into a town, cure those in it who
are sick, and say: 'The kingdom of God is very near to you'".

Pope's
letter to young people:
19. The Gospel also speaks about a group of
wise young women, who were ready and waiting, while others were distracted and
slumbering (cf. Mt 25:1-13). We
can, in fact, spend our youth being distracted, skimming the surface of
life, half-asleep, incapable of cultivating meaningful relationships or
experiencing the deeper things in life. In this way, we can store up a paltry
and unsubstantial future. Or we
can spend our youth aspiring to beautiful and great things, and thus
store up a future full of life and interior richness.

18. On the other hand, in the Gospel of
Matthew we find a young man (cf. Mt 19:20.22) who approaches
Jesus and asks if there is more that he can do; in this, he
demonstrates that youthful openness of spirit which seeks new horizons and great
challenges. Yet his spirit was not really that young, for he had
already become attached to riches and comforts. He said he wanted
something more, but when Jesus asked him to be generous and distribute his
goods, he realized that he could not let go of everything he had. In the
end, "hearing these words, the young man went away sad". He had
given up his youth.

them, saying "Receive the Holy Spirit". Thomas,
one of the 12 apostles, was not there that night. When the other disciples said
they had seen the Lord, he replied "Unless I see and touch his wounded
body, I refuse to believe"

John 20.21-29 (b): Eight
days later, the group was again in the same house, with the doors locked. This
time Thomas
was with them. Jesus again appeared
and stood before them saying "Peace be with you". Then he said to
Thomas "Put your hand into my side. Doubt no longer, but believe".
Thomas replied "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said "You believe
because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen me and yet
believe"
Jesus, my Lord and my God, I believe in you. Help me live and grow and die in
your friendship

Reflection on the above readings: Pope Francis has said that each time we help a poor person, we lovingly touch Jesus' wounded side ... like Thomas
