You are wholly beautiful, my love,

Psalms
61-65: O God, hear my cry,
you who are my refuge and help. In you alone is my soul
at rest. My help comes from you. Take refuge in God,
everyone in trouble.
Trust him at all times. O God, you are my God,
for you I long.
My body and soul thirst for you
like a dry, weary land without water. Your love is better
than life,
my lips will speak your praise. On my bed I remember
you.
On you I muse through the night. You are the Creator of
the world.
You care for the earth, you give it water. To you our praise is
due,
wherever we are on earth.
Lord, my
soul clings to you. Your right hand holds me fast

Acts
28.17-31:
Not long after his arrival in Rome, Paul had a
meeting with a large number of Jews. The meeting went from early morning
until evening. Paul talked to them about the kingdom of God.
He tried to help them believe in Jesus. Some accepted Jesus. Paul was in detention for two years, in his
own rented house. He welcomed everyone who came to visit him. With
boldness and without hindrance, he taught people about the Lord Jesus
Christ
Jesus, thank you for the Acts of the Apostles.

c.f. readings for Feast of Mary Magdalene
Song of Songs 3.1-4: The
bride says: On my bed, at night,
I sought him whom my heart loves.
I sought but did not find him. So I will rise and go through the City; in the
streets and in the squares, I will seek him whom my heart loves. I sought, but
did not find him. The watchmen came upon me on their rounds in the City:
"Have you seen him whom my heart loves?" Scarcely had I passed them,
when I found him whom my heart loves.
Jesus, please increase my love for you, my longing
for you.

John 20.11-18:
Peter and John went home. Mary
Magdalene remained at the tomb, crying. When she looked inside the
tomb, she saw two angels in white. She also saw Jesus standing there, though
she did not recognize him. Jesus said "Woman, why are you crying?".
Mary thought he was the gardener so she said to him "If you have taken
him away, tell me where you have put him". Jesus said "Mary"
and she recognized him. Jesus then said "I will ascend to my
Father". Mary went and told the disciples all she had seen and heard.
Jesus, please bless people who are crying at
funerals today. May awareness of your presence bring them peace and
strength for the days ahead

return to their own countries after 7-8-9-10 years in detention in HK. Not a few
of them have completed university study courses in prison. God bless them and
keep them safe as they go home ... and ... if anyone asks them "what did

Pope's
letter to young people:
40. The Synod recognized that "a
substantial number of young people, for all sorts of reasons, do not ask the
Church for anything because they do not see her as significant for their lives.
Some even ask expressly to be left alone, as they find the presence of the
Church a nuisance, even an irritant. This request does not always stem
from uncritical or impulsive contempt. It can also have serious and
understandable reasons: sexual and financial scandals; a clergy ill-prepared to
engage effectively with the sensitivities of the young; lack of care in homily
preparation and the presentation of the word of God; the passive role assigned
to the young within the Christian community; the Church's difficulty in
explaining her doctrine and ethical positions to contemporary society"

2.13-22: Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus went up
to Jerusalem. In the Temple he saw people selling cattle and sheep and
pigeons, with money changers sitting at their counting tables. Jesus made a whip out of some cord, then drove
the sellers out of the Temple, cattle and sheep as well. He scattered the
money changers' coins, knocked their tables over, and said to the pigeon
sellers "Take all of this out of here and stop turning my Father's house
into a market". Some religious leaders asked him "What
sign can you show us to justify what you have done?" Jesus answered "Destroy this sanctuary,
and in three days I will raise it up". The leaders replied
"It has taken 46 years to build this sanctuary".
But Jesus was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when he
rose from the dead, his disciples remembered his words.

Pope's
letter to young people:
39. Even though to many young people, God, religion and the Church seem empty
words, they are sensitive to the figure
of Jesus when he is presented in an attractive and effective way.
Consequently the Church should not be excessively caught up in herself but
instead, and above all, reflect Jesus Christ. This means humbly
acknowledging that some things concretely need to change, and if that is to
happen, she needs to appreciate the vision but also the criticisms of young
people.

Ecclesiastes 10-11: Foolish people are lazy, and careless

Wise people are diligent, and careful in speech. Young people, rejoice in your
youth.
Young people, remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Let everyone remember: our life
is short.
Don't waste your life. Live life well. Our days pass quickly
and old age is soon at the doorstep. Old age: when to go uphill is
difficult
and even walking is not easy. In all we do, let us love and
honor the Lord our God.
At the end of our lives on earth, it is to God we will have to give an

We were on the island of Malta. The local

putting them on the fire, when a snake bit his hand and held on. The locals
expected him to die. But he just shook the snake into the fire. He was ok.
The local Roman governor kindly gave us
hospitality for three days. The governor's father was very sick in bed
with fever and dysentery. He was healed when Paul prayed for him with the
laying on of hands.
Word of the healing got around fast, and soon everyone on the island who
was sick, came and got healed

John
2.1-11: Jesus, his mother and his disciples were
guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him
"They have no wine".
Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special things has not yet
come". His mother said to the servants
"Do whatever he tells you".
There were 6 big containers there, used for
holding water. Each could hold more than 70 liters. Jesus said to the servants
"Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give
it to the man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted
the water, it had turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said
"You have kept the best wine until now". This was the first public miracle done by

Pope's
letter to young people:
37. Christ's Church can always yield to the temptation to lose
enthusiasm because she no longer hears the Lord calling her to take the risk of
faith, to give her all without counting the dangers; she can be tempted to
revert to seeking a false, worldly form of security. Young
people can help keep her young. They can stop her from becoming corrupt;
they can keep her moving forward, prevent her from being proud and sectarian,
help her to be poorer and to bear better witness, to take the side of the poor
and the outcast, to fight for justice and humbly to let herself be challenged

"Do not be afraid, Paul. You are destined to go to Rome. Therefore
God grants you the safety of all who are sailing with you". On the 14th day, Paul took some bread, gave
thanks to God in front of them all, broke it and gave it to everyone
to eat. This gave them courage. There were 276 of them on the ship
Jesus, thank you for the courage that
Communion gives us

John 1:
5, 19-24: John the Baptist was sent by God as a witness
to the people about the presence of the Word among them. When religious leaders asked John "Who
are you?", he replied "I am, as the prophet Isaiah prophesied, a
voice crying out: make a straight way for the Lord". When Jesus came to the river Jordan where John
was baptizing, John said "Look, there is the lamb of God who takes
away the sin of the world. He is far more important than I am, because he
existed (as the Word) before I was born. I saw the Holy Spirit come down on him like a
dove. He will baptize people with the Holy Spirit. He is the Chosen
One of God"
Jesus, lamb of God, Chosen One of God, please
baptize me with the Holy Spirit

Reflection on the above readings: Did Saint Paul (Acts) give Communion to 270 people who were not Christians? Sometimes, in very special circumstances, it's ok to give Communion to people who are not (water-baptised) Christians ...
