Yesterday morning after going to a
bail case at Kowloon West court (which, as surety person, I was required to
attend) I then went to the High Court for the sentencing of a young Malaysian
man ... who was given a 10 month discount by a kind judge for his assistance to
Malaysian media in warning people about the danger of drug trafficking to HK.
Then after a lunch meeting to do with my anti-drug campaign I went to the Open
University of Hong Kong to enroll a prisoner for a correspondence course. See

Pope's
letter to young people:
49. The heart of the Church is also full of
young saints who devoted their lives to Christ, many of them even to dying a
martyr's death. They were precious reflections of the young Christ; their
radiant witness encourages us and awakens us from our lethargy. Their
example shows what the young are capable of when they open themselves up to
encounter Christ

Wisdom
6-7: Listen, rulers of the nations, govern with
justice,
for you will be judged by the Lord. Rulers, if you want to govern successfully,
seek Wisdom and she will guide your decisions. A wise ruler is a blessing for his people.
The more wise people there are, the better our world will be. When I, Solomon, became a ruler,
I prayed for Wisdom. I prayed, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
In Wisdom's company, all good things came to me.
Lord, please give me the gift
of Wisdom
My
recording of this reading

Psalm 78: Listen, everyone, to my teaching.
I will recount the lessons of our history. The things our parents have told us,
we will not hide from our children,
but will pass them on to the next generation. We want the next generation to know all that the Lord has done for us in the
past. May the next generation in turn
pass on this knowledge to their own children,
so that they too will put their hope in God
and never forget all that God has done for us. May future generations not be like our
ancestors
who so often were unfaithful to God. Even though our ancestors had seen God part
the sea,
even though they had seen him provide food and water for them
in the desert, still they went on sinning. Yet he who is full of compassion forgave and
spared them.
He remembered they were only weak humans. Eventually he brought them to the promised
land
and gave a home to each of Israel's tribes. But still they sinned by building mountain
shrines
and serving idols. Then God raised up David to be their
leader. God called him from looking after sheep to be the shepherd of his people.
Lord, help us not to forget all
you have done for us

Romans
1.26-32:
Refusing to honor the Creator is why people's
behaviour went bad:
why women turned from natural intercourse to unnatural practices, and why
men gave up natural intercourse to be consumed with passion for each
other, men doing shameless things with men, and getting an appropriate
reward for their perversion. Since people refused to honor God, they have
dishonored themselves.

Pope's
letter to young people:
48. Today, Mary is the Mother who watches
over us, her children, on our journey through life, often weary and in need,
anxious that the light of hope not fail. For that is our desire: that the
light of hope never fail. Mary our Mother looks to this pilgrim people: a
youthful people whom she loves, and who seek her in the silence of their hearts
amid all the noise, the chatter and the distractions of the journey.
Under the gaze of our Mother, there is room only for the silence of hope.
Thus Mary illumines anew our youth.

Wisdom
3-5: When good people die, they are in God's
hands.
Even if they died a tragic death, they are at peace. A long life is not what makes a person
honorable.
Honor is due to anyone of any age who is wise and understanding. On the other hand,
arrogance and misuse of
wealth
bring dishonor, in this life and in the next. Our life is short. We must live it wisely and
well.
Dear Lord, please help me to
live my life wisely and not foolishly
My
recording of this reading

Psalms
73-77:
Sometimes when I see how bad people prosper, wonder what's the use in trying to be good?
But then I realize that
everyone someday has to pay the bill
for any evil they have bought in the world. Sometimes when I see
our world and religion in ruins,
I wonder why has God abandoned us? Then I remember that
God has promised to break the power
of the wicked. He has promised to give strength to good people. So may all people honor
the Lord our God and judge.
May the Lord give us his loving help.
Lord,
you are goodness itself. Please help us to be good
and to trust you always

Luke
10.38-42 (for Feast of St Martha):
Jesus came to a village, and a
woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called
Mary, who sat down at the Lord's feet and listened to him speaking. Now Martha
who was distracted with all the serving said, "Lord, do you not care that
my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help
me." But the Lord answered: "Martha, Martha," he said "you
worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It
is Mary who has chosen the better part; it is not to be taken from her."
Recording
John
11.1-44 (for Feast of St Martha): Lazarus
and his sisters Mary and Martha lived in the village of Bethany. When Lazarus
became very sick, the sisters sent a message to Jesus "Lord, your dear
friend is very sick". By the time Jesus and his disciples arrived in
Bethany, Lazarus was dead and buried for 4 days. Martha
said to Jesus "If you had been here, my brother would not have died".
Jesus replied "I am the resurrection and the life. If anyone believes in
me, he will have life after death". Jesus said to Mary and Martha
"Where have you put him?" Jesus cried as he went to the tomb.
The tomb was a cave with a stone at the entrance. Jesus said "Take the
stone away". Then he called out in a loud voice "Lazarus, come
out!" The dead man came out, wrapped in burial clothes. Jesus said
"Unwrap him and let him go free".
Jesus, you are the Resurrection and the Life. Please give eternal life to my
friend (....name...) who died recently

Genesis 18: One day at
Mamre, God
and two angels appeared to Abraham.
At first, God and the angels looked like men.
Following the ancient custom of hospitality
Abraham prepared a feast for them.
God told Abraham that the town of Sodom was going to be destroyed because of the evil done there.
Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy Sodom.
God agreed to postpone Sodom's destruction for a while.
Dear God, please

Psalm
138: I thank you, Lord, with all my heart.
You have heard the words of my mouth. With the angels I will bless you.
I will adore you in your holy temple. I thank you for your faithfulness and love
which are far above what we can understand. On the day I called you
answered.
You increased the strength of my soul. All earth's kings shall thank you
when they hear the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the Lord's ways:
"How great is the glory of the Lord!" Though I walk in the midst of affliction
you give me life and frustrate my foes. Your love, O Lord, is eternal.
Do not abandon us whom you have made.

45. Without yielding to evasions or

gaze and protected him with her heart. She shared his suffering, yet was
not overwhelmed by it. She was the woman of strength who uttered her
"yes", who supports and accompanies, protects and embraces. She
is the great guardian of hope. From her
we learn how to say "yes" to the stubborn endurance and creativity of
those who, undaunted, are ever ready to start over again

Pope's
letter to young people:
44. I ask each one of you: do you see yourselves as the bearers of a promise?
What promise is present in my
heart that I can take up? Mary's mission would undoubtedly be
difficult, but the challenges that lay ahead were no reason to say
"no". Things would get complicated, of course, but not in the
same way as happens when cowardice paralyzes us because things are not clear or
sure in advance. Mary did not take out an insurance policy! She took
the risk, and for this reason she is strong, she is an "influencer",
an "influencer" of God. Her yes and her desire to serve were stronger
than any doubts or difficulties

44. We are always struck by the strength of the young Mary's
"yes" and the strength in her words "be it done" that

or a faint "yes", as if to say, "Well, let's give it a try and
see what happens". Mary did not know the words "Let's see what
happens". She was determined; she knew what was at stake and she said
"yes" without hesitation. Hers was the "yes" of someone
prepared to be committed, someone willing to take a risk, ready to stake
everything she had, with no more security than the certainty of knowing that she
was the bearer of a promise

Song of Songs 5-7: The bride:
His conversation is sweetness itself,
my beloved is totally lovable.
I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine. The groom:
You are beautiful, my love,
as beautiful as Jerusalem. How beautiful are your feet and thighs.
The curve of your thighs is like the curve of a necklace. Your navel is like an exquisite wine glass.
Your belly is like a heap of wheat. Your two breasts are like two baby deer.

faith in you.
May people realize that it is for your sake that I am taunted. Taunts have broken my

No one shows me any compassion. For food they give me poison.
In my thirst they give me vinegar to drink. Lord, do not hide your face from your servant.

A number of kind people in other countries have been asking me
about my safety in HK during these days of turmoil. I'm very grateful for
concern ... and prayers for peace in HK. My own situation is safer than most
people .... I spend a large part of my life in HK's safest places: prisons! Like
yesterday - 9 hours at Tai Lam women's prison where I was greatly saddened to
meet four women who were recruited/coerced by Nigerians in Adis Ababa (3) and
Johannesburg (1) to bring cocaine to HK ... three of them with the drugs in
their bodies ....all arranged by HK Nigerian Drug Lords whom the HK authorities
will not go after because they are informers. The plane ticket of at least one

God provides a shelter for the homeless. God gives his people strength
May all the peoples of the
earth know you and praise you, O God

Romans
1.1-7: From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, who has
been called to be an apostle,
and specially chosen to preach the Good News. This news is about the Son of God who,
according to the human nature he took, was a descendant of David. This news is about Jesus Christ our Lord who,
by his resurrection from the dead, proved he was the Son of God. From him I received my mission to preach the
obedience of faith to non-Jewish nations. You are one of these nations. You belong to
Jesus Christ. To you who are God's beloved friends in Rome,
may
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give grace and peaceJesus, Son of
God, may all nations know
and love you

John
3.13-17: Jesus said to the religious leader:
"The Son of Man must be lifted up on a cross, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so that everyone who
believes may have eternal life in him". God loved the world so much, that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may
have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to
condemn the world,
but so that through him the world might be saved
Jesus, only Son of God the Father, thank you
for coming into this world. Please help more and more people believe in
you

Reflection on the above readings: Our parents love(d) us. It is only right that we love them. God loves us with the greatest love of all. It is only right that we love God
