Tues April 28
Yesterday I paid my second visit to Dignity Kitchen (a wonderful social enterprise empowering handicapped people) at 618 Shanghai Street in Mong Kok - for lunch with 3 members of the No More Mules Team. We 4 guests were privileged to meet a blind man named Ming ... one of whose jobs is to make deliveries for DK, using Google Location to guide him!
On the way back to Jordan with 2 of the NMM team,
I did some shopping for the MercyHK
stall due to open this Friday night in Temple Street market. Shopping
included the ordering of this banner to be displayed in the stall:

Is
India heading for a crisis?

My article in today's Ming Pao newspaper has the topic: What is a "quisling"? It's on Ming Pao website - click "Australian in HK". Text without recording

Deuteronomy
1: After wandering in the desert for 40 years,
the Israelites reached the land of Canaan.
Moses then assembled the people
and recalled all that had happened over the past 40 years:
"When God first told us to take this land,
I said to you: Do not be afraid. God goes ahead of you
and will be fighting on your side, as he did in Egypt.
I also said how God carried you, as a man carries his
child,
all along the road you travelled to this place.
But you did not trust God
and God closed the door to Canaan for 40 years,
causing us to wander in the desert until now."
Dear God, please help me to
trust you a bit more
My
recording of this reading

Psalms 66-68: O God, be gracious and bless us
and let your face shine its light upon us. Let all the peoples praise you, O
God.
Let all the peoples praise you. O sing to the Lord, make music to his name.
Rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence. Father of the orphan, defender of the widow,
God provides a shelter for the homeless. God gives his people strength.
May all the peoples of the
earth know you and praise you, O God
Listen

Revelation
2.18-22:
He gave me this message for the church in
Thyatira: "I know how charitable you are.
I see your faith and devotion, and your courage in suffering. But some of you are being misled by a false
teacher.
You are imitating her bad behavior. Listen to this message and repent"
Jesus, please don't let me imitate bad
behavior
Listen

Luke
4.31-37:
Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee.
On the Sabbath day he taught in the local prayer hall. In the hall there was a man possessed by a
devil which shouted "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of
God". Jesus said sharply "Be quiet! Come out of
him".
And the devil left the man without hurting him. People in the hall said "He gives orders
to unclean spirits and they obey him". Jesus' reputation continued to
spread through the district
Jesus, please protect my family from evil

Reflection on the above readings: False teachers do exist (Revelation). Evil spirits do exist (Gospel). May the Lord protect us from both!

Numbers
34-35: God gave the land of
Canaan to the Israelites
and Moses allocated a section of the land to the eleven tribes.
The tribe of Levi received some towns and pasture land from each of
the eleven tribes.
Cities of refuge were established, where people could find safety
if they had accidentally caused someone's death
and the dead person's relatives wanted to take revenge.
In cases of homicide, more than one witness was required to convict
someone of murder.
A final law: the inheritance of each tribe was not to be transferred to
another tribe
Dear God, please bless my

My
recording of this reading

Psalms
61-65: O God, hear my cry,
you who are my refuge and help. In you alone is my soul
at rest. My help comes from you. Take refuge in God,
everyone in trouble.
Trust him at all times. O God, you are my God,
for you I long.
My body and soul thirst for you
like a dry, weary land without water. Your love is better
than life,
my lips will speak your praise. On my bed I remember
you.
On you I muse through the night. You are the Creator of
the world.
You care for the earth, you give it water. To you our praise is
due,
wherever we are on earth.
Lord, my
soul clings to you. Your right hand holds me fast

Revelation
2.12-16: He gave me this message for the church in
Pergamum: "I know you live in a place where idol
worship is strong.
I know you have stayed faithful, even after one of you was killed. But some of you have compromised yourselves by
eating food sacrificed to idols. And some of you have followed false
teachers. Listen to this message and repent"
Jesus, don't let me ever compromise my faith
Listen

Luke
4.23-30: People in the prayer hall rejected Jesus.
"Who does he think he is?" they asked. "He's just the son
of Joseph". Jesus replied "No prophet is ever
accepted in his own country". The angry people then took Jesus by force to
the edge of the hill on which Nazareth was built. They planned
to throw him down the cliff.
But Jesus escaped from them and went away
Jesus, please forgive people who reject you.
Please help them accept you

Yesterday 3 more homeless men took up residence in the Ping On
building in YMT where the NGO of which I am a co-director, MercyHK, is now
renting 9 rooms for 19 people. Yesterday the 3 new men also joined me
for lunch in a Social Enterprise restaurant on 1/F of Ping On ... the same
restaurant which amazingly gives out two free meals each day (at 11am and 4pm)
to 500 poor people ... 1,000 meals per day! The restaurant has been going
about 3 years and belongs to the marvellous Ging
Ko Social Enterprise. I hope readers can check out the Ping On restaurant -

Acts
2.22-36: Peter
said to the crowd "You know that Jesus of Nazareth was a man from God. You
know all about the miracles he worked. This same Jesus has been raised from the
dead by God. There are many witnesses to his resurrection. Jesus has been taken
up to God's right hand. He has received the Holy Spirit from the Father. He
has poured out the Holy Spirit on us. Know for sure that Jesus whom you
crucified is the Messiah and he is Lord".

16: Please
protect me, Lord, I take refuge in you. You are the only source of all true
happiness. I bless you, Lord, who guide and lead me. Even at night you direct my
heart. And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad. My body shall rest in safety
now and always. You will show me the path of life, the
fullness of joy in your presence, at your right hand, happiness for ever.

Luke
24.13-35: That
same day, two of Jesus' disciples were on their way from Jerusalem to the
village of Emmaus, about 7 km from Jerusalem. As they talked about all that had
happened, Jesus himself joined them as they walked along. But they did not
recognize him. When Jesus asked them what they were talking about, they said
"About Jesus of Nazareth, and how our leaders had him crucified. And
how some women in our group went to Jesus' tomb and were told by angels that he
was alive". Jesus then explained the Scripture passages which predicted his
suffering and resurrection. Jesus joined the two men for an evening meal. During
the meal, he blessed some bread and gave it to them. They then recognized
him. But he immediately vanished from their sight. They said to each other
"Did not our hearts burn within us
as he talked to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?"
Straight away they returned to Jerusalem where the eleven apostles said to them
"Yes, it is true. The Lord has risen". Then they told their story of
what had happened on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus at the breaking
of bread
Jesus, please make my heart burn within me as I read the Bible

For today's Feast of St. Mark
Mark
14.48-52: Jesus said to them
"Am I a robber that you needed to capture me with swords and clubs? Day
after day I was openly teaching in the Temple". All the apostles then
deserted him and ran away. A
young man who followed
Jesus had nothing on but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him, but he left the
cloth in their hands and ran away naked.

Acts
15.36-40: Some time after
this, Paul said to Barnabas "Let's revisit the towns where we preached the
word of the Lord". Barnabas suggested taking John
Mark with them, but
Paul opposed this, since John Mark had deserted them on the previous trip when
the situation became dangerous. After a violent argument, Paul and Barnabas
split up. Barnabas went with John Mark to Cyprus. Silas joined Paul for his next
journey.

4.14-22: Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him,
returned to Galilee.
He taught in local prayer halls. His reputation spread. He came to his home town of Nazareth and went

prophet Isaiah:
"The spirit of the Lord has been given to me. He has sent me
to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to prisoners,
to give sight to the blind, to set the downtrodden free". Jesus then sat down and said to the people in
the prayer hall "These words from Isaiah are being fulfilled today
even as you listen"
Jesus, please help me be more open to the
power of your Spirit.
O Holy Spirit, please increase your influence in my life

Yesterday after a morning at the
desk, I walked to 618 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, for lunch at Dignity
Kitchen, a wonderful social enterprise which is empowering HK disabled people. It's
open 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday. Been open only a few months. Hope HK
readers can check it out soon!
From the kitchen I went to the Ping On building in YMT where I rented 2 more rooms for homeless people. This updated file has new photos and info - scroll down. 16 formerly homeless people last night slept in a bed (16 beds!)
In between two trips to Ping On I went to the custodial ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital to help CSD staff obtain some medicine for a local prisoner ... and to visit that prisoner and another prisoner. After which I made a visit to YMT church to say thank you for a remarkable day focused on the handicapped, homeless and prisoners.

Numbers 26-27: Moses made
a census of all the men in the community.
The total number was 624,730.
Moses also gave a ruling concerning inheritance:
"If a man dies without sons,
his inheritance is to pass to his daughters.
If he has no daughter, the inheritance is to go to his brothers.
If he has no brother, it is to go to his father's brothers.
If his father has no brothers,
it is to go to the member of his clan who is his closest relative".
As Moses neared the end of his life, he asked God for someone to succeed him as leader.
God answered:
"Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit
dwells.
Lay your hands on him, then bring him before Eleazar the priest
and the whole community so that everyone will obey him".
