Yesterday I was at Lai Chi Kok men's prison from 11am to 5pm ....
not affected too much by the heavy rain since most of the prison is an indoor or
semi-indoor type of place. These days ... never too late to start .... I try to
remember to begin every conversation with a prisoner with the words "God is
good" to which they reply "All the time". Only wish I could
remember all the time!

Deuteronomy
31: Moses said to the
people:
"I am 120 years old and can no longer come and go as I will.
The Lord has told me I will not cross the Jordan."
Moses then said to Joshua in the presence of all the people:
"Be strong, stand firm. you are going with this people
into the land promised by the Lord.
The Lord himself will lead you; he will be with you;
he will not fail you or desert you.
Have no fear; do not be disheartened by anything."
Dear
Lord, please help more and more people
to choose life and blessings...and not to turn their backs on you
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
92: It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning,
and your truth right through the night. Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad.
For the work of your hands, I shout with joy. To me you give the wild ox's strength.
You anoint me with the purest oil. May we love and praise you right through our
lives,
right till the end of our days. May we keep on proclaiming your goodness,
proclaiming that in you, our rock, there is only goodness.
Lord, it is right and fitting
to love and praise you

Revelation
20.11-15:
Then I saw God sitting on a great white throne. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing
in front of his throne, while the Book of Life was opened, in which was
the record of everyone's life. Everyone was judged according to the way they
had lived. Then Death and Hades were thrown into a
burning lake.
This burning lake is the second death. Anyone whose name could not be found in the
Book of Life
was thrown into the burning lake

Luke
8.1-3:
Jesus went to many towns and villages,
proclaiming the Good News.
The 12 apostles went with him, as did a group of women who had been healed
of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna and
several others.
These women used their own money to support Jesus and the apostles
Jesus, thank you for all the women who support
the spread of the Good News in today's world

Deuteronomy
29-30: Moses called the whole
of Israel together and said to them:
"Keep the words of this covenant and observe them
and you will thrive in all you do.
Let there be no man or woman among you,
no clan or tribe, whose heart turns away from the Lord your God
to go and serve the gods of the nations.
If ever you are scattered from the land God is giving you,
God will bring you back when your hearts turn back to him.
The Lord will circumcise your hearts
until you love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.
This law I enjoin on you today is not beyond your strength
or beyond your reach.
It is not in heaven, so that you need to wonder
'who will go up to heaven for us and bring it down to us
so that we may hear it and keep it?'
Nor is it beyond the seas, so that you need to wonder
'who will cross the sea for us and bring it back to us,
so that we may hear it and keep it?'
No, the Word is very near to you.
It is in your mouth and in your heart for your observance.
See, today I set before you life and prosperity,
death and disaster.
If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God,
if you love the Lord your God and follow his ways,
if you keep his commandments, his laws, his customs,
you will live and increase,
and the Lord your God will bless you
in the land which you are entering to make your own.
But if your heart strays, if you refuse to listen,
if you let yourself be drawn into worshipping other gods
and serving them,
I tell you today, you will most certainly perish;
you will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan
to enter and possess.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today:
I set before you life or death, blessing or curse.
Choose life, then, so that you and your descendants
may live in the love of the Lord your God,
obeying his voice, clinging to him.
For in this your life consists,
and on this depends your long stay in the land
which the Lord swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob he would give them"
Dear
Lord, please help more and more people
to choose life and blessings .. .and not to turn their backs on you

Psalm
91: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
says to the Lord "you are my refuge in whom I trust". The Lord will hide you and protect you.
Under his wings you will find refuge. You will not fear any night time terror,

no plague approach where you dwell.
For you has he commanded his angels
to keep you safe in all your ways.

Revelation
19.1-9: After this I heard the sound of a huge crowd
in heaven singing: "Alleluia! Victory and glory and power to our
God!" The sound of the crowd was like the
sound of the ocean
or the roar of thunder as they called out: "Alleluia! The reign of the Lord our God
the Almighty has begun.
Let us be glad and joyful, and give praise to God,
because this is the time for the marriage of the Lamb". And an angel said "Blessed are those who
are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb"

Luke
7.36-50: A religious leader invited Jesus for a meal.
A woman who had a bad name heard that Jesus was at the leader's home.
She entered the house and knelt behind Jesus, crying. Her tears fell on
Jesus' feet and she wiped them away with her hair. She covered his feet
with kisses, and put ointment on them.
The leader was thinking "If Jesus is a prophet, he would know what
sort of woman is now touching him". So Jesus said to the leader "I
came into your house and you did not follow the custom of pouring water on
my feet. But this woman has poured out her tears on my feet. You gave me no welcoming kiss, but she has
been covering my feet with kisses. You gave me no welcoming oil on my
head, but she has anointed my feet. And I tell you that her sins must have been
forgiven, or she would not have shown such great love. People who are forgiven little,
show little love"
Jesus, please forgive my sins. Help me
show great love

Catholic. Thank you Jesus!
The political situation in HK continues to deteriorate as the government seems
more and more to be just a mouthpiece for Beijing. In fact for many HK people,
the political situation is now more of a worry than the virus situation (which
is basically under control). June 4 just around the corner .... standby for govt/Beijing
to say "No" to annual June 4 gathering ... as has already happened in
Macau.

8.14-17: The
apostles in Jerusalem heard that people in Samaria had accepted the word of God.
Peter and John went to Samaria to pray for the Samaritans to receive the Holy
Spirit. So far the Samaritans had only been baptized in the name of the Lord
Jesus. The Holy Spirit had not come down on them. When
Peter and John prayed over them with the laying on of hands, the Samaritans
received the Holy Spirit.

the peoples praise you, O God. Let all
the peoples praise you. O sing to the Lord, make music to his name.
Rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence. Father of the orphan, defender of

you have a share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, because this means you
will have an extra share of happiness in the life to come. It is a blessing for

Spirit of God resting on you. People who experience suffering for God's

the meal, Jesus said to his disciples "To have seen me, is to have seen the
Father. I am in the Father, and the Father is in me. Whatever you ask for in my
name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you
love me, you will keep my commandments. I will ask the Father and he will give
you another Friend to be always with you. This
Friend is the Spirit of Truth who will be living in your heart. If anyone
loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come

I went to bed a bit late last night but very, very happy. After
coming back to Jordan from Day 4 of the annual O.M.I. retreat, I rented two more
rooms at the Ping On Building: one for 3 women who had been sleeping at
McDonald's .... last night they were in a 3 person room; the other for 3
homeless men who will start using the room tonight. Each room $6,000 for one
month. That makes 14 rooms now being rented for around 30 people. Then I went to
Temple Street Market where the 3 MercyHK stalls (employing 5 homeless people and
one other needy person) were purring like kittens. Icing on the cake was this
excellent financial report for MercyHK prepared by volunteer Monica
(Thank you so much!). The report shows, thanks to so many kind donors, MercyHK
has a large amount of money .... but .... our expenses are expected to be around

Moses' teaching:
"When you enter
the land the Lord your God is giving you,
you must take the first-fruits of your produce
to the priest then in office and say
'Today I declare to the Lord my God
that I have come to the land
the Lord swore to our fathers he would give us.'
After the priest receives your offering, you must declare:
'My father was a wandering Aramaean.
He went down to Egypt to find refuge there, few in number.
But then he became a nation, great and strong.
The Egyptians ill-treated us, they gave us no peace
and inflicted harsh slavery on us.
But we called on the Lord our God who heard our voice
and saw our misery, toil and oppression.
The Lord our God then brought us out of Egypt
with mighty hand and outstretched arm, with signs and wonders.
He brought us here and gave us this land,
a land where milk and honey flow.
So I now bring the first-fruits of my produce
that you, Lord, have given me'.
You are then to share these gifts with your household

Jesus gave him to his mother. Everyone was filled with awe and praised God

built our prayer hall". Jesus went with them, but before they
reached the house the centurion sent some servants with the message
"Sir, I am not worthy to receive you into my house. This is why I
didn't come to you personally. Just say a word, and my servant will
be healed". When Jesus heard these words, he said to the
crowd following him
"I have not found faith as great as this man's". When the messengers got back to the house,
they saw that the servant was healed and in perfect health.

Last night as I returned home from Day 2 of the annual O.M.I.
retreat at Notre Dame in Kowloon City, I used a pedestrian subway to cross
Nathan Road .... where I saw a homeless man on the concrete floor ... he has
been living/sleeping there for months. I took him to the nearby Ping On building
where, thanks to the help of so many HK people, I rented a room for him (and for
another man who uses the subway). That makes 12 rooms being rented in the name
of MercyHK of which I am a director ... for 25 homeless people.
Even though I answered about 40 messages yesterday, my mobile is
saying (10.35 last night) I still have 104 unanswered messages. Today I will try

Book Blog:
4 readings + recordings
Comments welcome here
Readings are from
Simple Bible
Deuteronomy 19-21:
Moses' teaching:
"A life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,
a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot.
When you go to war, the following men are excused from fighting:
a man who has not yet dedicated his newly-built house;
a man who has planted a vineyard and not yet enjoyed its fruit;
a man who is engaged to be married;
a man who is fearful and faint of heart."
Dear Lord, help me to
understand how Jesus taught us to love our enemies and not to take revenge
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
87: On the holy mountain is Jerusalem,
the Lord's cherished city. Of you are told glorious things, O city of
God. All nations are called to serve and love the
Lord.
And Jerusalem shall be called their spiritual mother,
for all shall be her children. In Jerusalem everyone will be welcome and find
a home.
Lord, may Jerusalem be a place
of peace and prayer for all peoples

Revelation
14.6-13: I saw an angel flying high in the sky,
sent to announce
the Good News of eternity to every nation, race, language and tribe. He was calling: "Honor God and praise him.
Worship the maker of heaven and earth and sea.
The time has come for him to judge the world". A voice from heaven said to me
"Happy are those who are the Lord's friends when they die. Now
they can rejoice for ever,
since their good deeds go with them"
Jesus, may I live, grow and die in your
friendship

Luke
6.46-49:
In his teaching, Jesus said "Why do you call
me 'Lord', yet do not do what I ask you to do? Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words
and puts them into practice is like a man who built his house on a solid
foundation. That house was so well
built that even floods could not damage it. But anyone who listens and does not put my
words into practice is like a man who built his house without a foundation. As soon as floods came, the house collapsed".
Jesus, please help me put your words into
practice; help me apply them in my daily life

Reflection
on the above readings:
Covid-19
has shown that people, especially leaders, who ignore reality/truth.... who fail
to put truth into action, bring disaster on themselves and others
