Samuel 25-31: Samuel died and was buried in his home town
of Ramah.
Saul continued to try to capture David. David and his band of 600 soldiers
spent more than a year in Philistine territory. They stayed with
Achish, king of Gath.
They fought against the enemies of Achish.
Achish sent David away when the Philistines
made war on Israel.
Saul and his son Jonathan died in this war.
Dear
God, please protect and help all refugees
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
01: Happy the person who
avoids evil and evil entertainment.
Happy the person who reads and meditates on God's words. Such a
person is like a tree planted beside a river, getting plenty of
nourishment, bearing plenty of fruit. Such a
person is on the Way of Life.
People who do evil are on the Way of Death.
Dear
Lord, please help me do good and avoid evil
Listen

Acts
17.10-12:
That night Paul and Silas left for the town
of Beroea. At the local prayer hall, the Jews were very open-minded and
they warmly welcomed the word of the Lord. Every day they studied the Scriptures to check
that Paul's words were true. Many Jews and many non-Jewish people became
believers
Jesus, please help people be open-minded when
hearing your message
Listen

Luke
22-23:
At daybreak there was a meeting of the
religious leaders.
Jesus was brought before them. They asked him "Are you the Son of
God?". He replied "Yes".
They said "We have heard his blasphemy from his own lips". They took him to the Roman governor,
Pilate, and made many false accusations against him.
Pilate said "I find no case against
him". Jesus was then taken to King Herod who made fun of him and sent
him back to Pilate
Jesus, on trial before the leaders, before
Herod and before Pilate, please help all prisoners who are on trial today
Listen

Reflection on the above readings: When prisoners go to court for sentencing, I encourage them to pray: "Jesus before Pilate, my life is in your hands .... Jesus before Pilate, please bless everyone in this court"

An
old physician, Doctor John Geezer, became very bored in retirement and decided
to re-open a medical clinic.
He
put a sign up outside that read: "Dr. Geezer's clinic. Get your treatment
for $500 - if not cured, get back $1,000."
Doctor
Digger Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about
medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to
Dr. Geezer's clinic.
Dr.
Young:
"Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help
me?"
Dr.
Geezer:
"Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's
mouth."
Dr.
Young:
'Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!"
Dr.
Geezer:
"Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500."
Dr.
Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his
money.
Dr.
Young:
"I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."
Dr.
Geezer:
"Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's
mouth."
Dr.
Young:
"Oh, no you don't -- that is Gasoline!"
Dr.
Geezer:
"Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."
Dr.
Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more
days.
Dr.
Young:
"My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything!"
Dr.
Geezer:
"Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, Here's your $1000 back"
(giving him a $10 bill).
Dr.
Young:
"But this is only $10!"
Dr.
Geezer:
"Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."

Samuel 20-24: Jonathan again tried to help David make peace
with Saul.
But Saul was full of anger and just wanted to kill David. David then became a nomad, roaming from place
to place,
continually pursued by Saul's soldiers. David once had a chance to kill Saul
but David refused to kill him. David said: "Saul is the anointed one of
the Lord.
It is wrong for me to hurt him." Even though Saul hated and hunted David,
David respected and protected Saul.
Dear God, when other
people treat me unkindly,
please help me to be kind to them, as David was kind to Saul

Psalm
149-150: Sing a new song to the Lord.
Let the praise of God be always on our lips. Praise God in his holy temple.
Praise him in the heavens. O praise him with sound of
trumpet.
Praise him with lute and harp.
Praise him with drums and dancing.
Praise him with strings and pipes. Let everything that lives and
breathes,
give praise to the Lord our Creator. Alleluia!
Lord, to you we say every day

Acts
17.1-9: Paul and his friends next went to the town of
Thessalonika. On three Sabbaths, Paul spoke at the local prayer hall,
explaining how Jesus is the Anointed One. Some Jewish listeners and many non-Jewish people
became believers.
But the religious leaders, out of jealousy, stirred up a gang from the
market place. The gang dragged some believers to the city
council. The leaders shouted "The people who have been turning
the whole world upside down, have come to our town. They claim there is
another emperor, Jesus". The believers were eventually allowed to go on
bail
Jesus, please don't let jealous people stop
anyone from becoming a Christian

Luke
22.63-65: The men who were guarding Jesus
mocked him
and beat him.
They blindfolded him. "Since you are a prophet", they said,
"tell us who hit you just then". And they continued heaping insults on him
Jesus, please stop me from making offensive
fun of other people

Wisdom
10-19: Wisdom has been
present in the world since the beginning of time. Wisdom has always been a close
friend of good people. Wise people see God in the beauty of creation. Foolish
people are blind to God's presence in creation. Wise people ponder God's
goodness and kindness. Wise people try to be good and kind to other people.
Lord, please help me see and imitate your goodness and kindness
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
86: Turn your ear, O Lord, and give answer
for I am poor and needy. O Lord, you are
good and forgiving, full of love to all who call to you. All the nations
shall come to adore you and glorify your name, O Lord, you who alone are God.
Show me, Lord, your way, and guide my heart so that I may walk in your truth. I
will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart for your love to me has been
great. O give your strength to your servant and save your handmaid's son.
Dear Lord, thank you for all your love

8.26-29: When we are not sure
of what to say in prayer, we ask the Spirit to pray in us. We

him. God the Father wants us to become living images of his Son, so that
his Son will be the eldest of many brothers and sisters.

Matthew
13: Jesus told the people another story:
The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. An enemy
came and sowed weeds in the same field. When the good seed sprouted, so did the
weeds. The man's servants asked if they should get rid of the weeds.
"No", said the man, "you might damage the good seed if you do
that. Let them both grow till harvest
time. Then burn the weeds." Then Jesus explained his story: "I
am the sower. The field is the world. The good seed stands for people of good
will. The weeds stand for people of bad will. The enemy is Satan. At the end of
the world, the Son of Man will send his angels to sort out the good and the bad
people. Bad people will go to hell. Good people will go to heaven".
Jesus, please protect good people from bad people
Recording

Reflection on the above readings:
Pope Francis' words about the weeds in today's Gospel - good for parents/teachers etc:An evangelizing community is always concerned with fruit, because the Lord wants her to be fruitful. It cares for the grain and does not grow impatient at the weeds. The sower, when he sees weeds sprouting among the grain does not grumble or overreact. He or she finds a way to let the word take flesh in a particular situation and bear fruits of new life, however imperfect or incomplete these may appear. (Joy of the Gospel, No. 24)

Samuel 19:
Saul's son Jonathan urged his father not to
hate David,
but Saul again tried to kill David, this time with a spear. David then escaped from his home
and went to live with Samuel at Ramah. Three times Saul sent men to capture David.
Each time they were overcome by the spirit of the Lord
and they went into an ecstasy. Then Saul himself went to Ramah
and he too went into ecstasy.

praise him all his spirits. Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, shining stars. Let them praise the name of the Lord.
His word gave life to all of them. Praise the Lord from the earth,
sea creatures and all oceans. Praise him fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy winds that obey his word. Praise him all mountains and hills,
all fruit trees and cedars.
Praise him all animals, wild and tame,

Acts
16.25-37:
Late that night in prison, Paul and Silas were
praying and singing God's praises, while the other prisoners listened to
them. Suddenly there was an earthquake that shook
the prison.
All the doors opened, and the chains fell from all the prisoners. The main jailer drew his sword and was about
to kill himself,
thinking the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted to him "Don't hurt
yourself. We are all still here". Trembling, the jailer threw himself at the
feet of Paul and Silas. Then he escorted them out of the prison asking
"What must I do to be saved?" They said "Become a believer in the
Lord Jesus, and both you and your household will be saved". They explained the word of God to him and his
family. He washed their wounds and then they "washed his wounds"
by baptizing him and all his household. They had a meal together in the
jailer's home, to celebrate the family's conversion to belief in God

22.54-62: The men who arrested Jesus took him to the
home of the main religious leader. Peter followed at a distance. As Peter sat by a fire in the courtyard, a
servant-girl said "This man was with Jesus". Peter replied
"Woman I do not know him". A little while later, another person said
"You are one of them". Peter replied "I am not". About an hour later, a man said "He was
certainly with them. He is from Galilee". Peter replied "I do
not know what you are talking about". While he was still speaking, a rooster crowed,
and the Lord looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered what the Lord
had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three
times". Peter went outside and cried bitterly

1 Samuel 18:
After one of David's victories against the
Philistines,
the Israelite women came to meet David and Saul singing
"Saul has killed thousands, David tens of thousands." From that day Saul became jealous
of David. Saul realized that the Lord was
with David
and that the people loved David. Saul was filled with jealousy of
David

like an enemy.

Psalm
147: Praise the Lord for he is good.
Sing to our God for he is loving. To him our praise is
due. The Lord builds up Jerusalem
and brings back Israel's exiles. He heals the broken-hearted
and binds up all their wounds. The Lord raises the lowly
and humbles the wicked. He fixes the number of the stars.
He calls each one by name. Our Lord is great and almighty.
His wisdom can never be measured. He covers the heavens with clouds.
He prepares rain for the earth, making mountains sprout with grass
and with plants to serve our needs. His delight is not in horses
nor his pleasure in warriors' strength. The Lord delights in those who love and honor
him,
in those who wait for his love.
It is right and fitting to
praise and love you, Lord our Creator

Acts 16.16-24:
One day we met a slave girl who made a

day shouting "These are the servants of God". Paul said to the spirit possessing
her "I order you, in the name of Jesus Christ, to leave her".
The spirit immediately left her, but her owners were angry that she could
no longer tell fortunes. The owners seized Paul and Silas and dragged
them to court, saying to the magistrate "These people are causing a
disturbance in our city". A crowd supported the owners in calling for
their punishment. They were given many lashes and put into prison with their feet in irons

Luke
22.47-53: While Jesus was speaking, a group of
men arrived, led by Judas.
One of Jesus' apostles used his sword to cut
off the right ear of one of the men sent to arrest Jesus. Jesus told his apostles not to use their
swords. Then touching the man's ear, he healed him. Jesus said to the men arresting him "This

1 Samuel 17: The Philistine and Israelite armies prepared
for battle.
The Philistines were on one hill, the Israelites on an opposite hill,
with a valley between them. The Philistines produced a giant warrior,
Goliath,
who challenged the Israelites to find one man to fight him.
Goliath said: "If I win, you become our slaves;
if I am killed, we will become your slaves." For many weeks Goliath issued his
challenge,
but no Israelite soldier was brave enough to fight Goliath. Then David visited the army camp and heard
Goliath's words.
He offered to fight Goliath. Some people made fun of David,
but David knew he would be helped by the Lord. David took 5 smooth stones from the river bed
and with his sling in his hand he went to fight Goliath. When Goliath saw the young boy David,
Goliath insulted and ridiculed him. But David took out one of his stones
and slung it at Goliath. The stone hit Goliath on the forehead
and he dropped to the ground. David then used Goliath's sword to kill him
and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion
was dead,
they fled in fear, chased by the Israelites who defeated them. Saul put David in charge of his army
and David had many victories. David and Saul's son Jonathan became good
friends. Dear God, please help me
just as you helped David

Psalm 146: My soul, give
praise to the Lord.
I will praise the Lord all my days. Put no trust in
princes,
in mortal men in whom there is no help. Take their breath, they
return to clay
and their plans that day come to nothing. They are happy who are
helped by Jacob's God,
whose hope is in the Lord our God, who alone made heaven
and earth,
the seas and all they contain. It is he who gives
bread to the hungry,
the Lord, who sets prisoners free. It is the Lord who
gives sight to the blind,
who raises up those who are bowed down. It is the Lord who
protects the stranger
and upholds the widow and orphan. It is the Lord who
loves the just

trial. But let your will, not mine, be done". An angel from heaven appeared to him to give
him strength. His agony was so great that his sweat became drops of blood
falling to the ground. When he got up and went to the disciples, he
found them sleeping - so overcome were they with sorrow

I will bless your name day after day. The Lord is great, worthy of all praise.
His greatness cannot be measured. Age to age shall proclaim your works,

compassion,
slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all,
compassionate to all his creatures. All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord,
and tell all the world of your love. The Lord is faithful in all his words
and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall

and you give them their food each day. The Lord is close to all who call him,

22.31-34: Jesus said to the apostle Peter "Satan
has got his wish to attack you. But I have prayed for you, that your faith
may not fail. Once you have recovered from Satan's attack, you in your
turn must give strength to others". Peter said "Lord, I am ready to go to
prison with you and to die with you". Jesus replied "Peter, before the rooster
crows, you will deny three times that you know me"
Jesus, please strengthen my faith. Please
strengthen my faith

Reflection on the above readings: Pope Francis has often said that one of the main reasons for doing things for others is the memory of how so much has been done for us .... like the times we have been re-strengthened, like Peter
