1 Kings
8-9: When the temple was finished,
Solomon shifted the Sacred Chest to the temple.
After the Chest was placed in the temple,
the glorious cloud of the Lord filled the temple. Solomon then praised God and
blessed the people.
Solomon prayed that the temple would be a place of blessings. Solomon also prayed that all the
peoples of the world
would come to know the Lord from whom all life comes. The Lord again appeared to Solomon and said:
"I will be near to all who enter the temple you have built."
Dear God, may all temples and
churches in the world
be places where people praise and love you
My
recording of this reading

Psalms
24-26: The Lord's is the earth and all its
peoples.
It is the Lord who is Creator of the universe. May all hearts open their doors to the
Lord.
Let him enter, the king of glory. Lord I hope in you all the day long.
Forgive my sins and help me walk in your truth.
God my savior, teach me your
way of truth

Acts
21.15-40:
In Jerusalem Paul gave a report to James and
other Christian leaders of all that God had done for non-Jews through his ministry.
But Paul was soon seen by Jews from where he
had traveled. He was dragged out of the Temple and beaten by a wild crowd.
The beating was stopped by a Roman captain who had Paul bound with chains. The crowd was calling out for Paul to be
killed. Paul asked for permission to speak to the
crowd and the captain agreed. Paul then spoke to the crowd in Hebrew

John
2.1-11:
Jesus, his mother and his disciples were
guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him
"They have no wine".
Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special things has not yet
come". His mother said to the servants
"Do whatever he tells you".
There were 6 big containers there, used for
holding water. Each could hold about 35 liters. Jesus said to the servants
"Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give
it to the man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted
the water, it had turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said
"You have kept the best wine until now". This was the first public miracle done by
Jesus
Jesus,
help me to do whatever you tell
me to do
Listen

Reflection on the above readings: Without Mary's request, Jesus would not have changed water into wine. So we can say that our prayer requests to Jesus can generate more of his help for other people. ... just as parents/teachers respond to the reasonable requests of their children/students. Our prayers for any person, place or issue can make a difference.

Building in Yau Ma Tei .... as was a homeless woman yesterday afternoon. In
cricket terms that makes 18 for 31 (18 rooms for 31 people) ... being rented by

their own accommodation .... and because ... in the case of a tiny few
....people are asked to leave by landlords for not caring enough about hygiene

6-7:
Solomon built the temple of the Lord with

This took 13 years to build.

My

Psalm 23: The Lord is my
shepherd, there is nothing I
shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He guides me along the right path. He is true
to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff; with these you give me
comfort. You have prepared a banquet for me in the
sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil. My cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord's own house shall I dwell for ever
and ever.
Thank you, Lord, for being my
good shepherd

Acts
21.1-14: Our sea voyage took us to the city of
Caesarea. A prophet there took Paul's belt and used it to tie up his own
feet and hands,
as a sign of what would happen to Paul in Jerusalem. Everyone implored Paul not to go to
Jerusalem.
Paul replied "I am ready not only to be tied up,
but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus". And so we packed up and headed for Jerusalem
Jesus, please give me a bit of Paul's courage
Listen

John
1.35-51: John the Baptist told his disciples Andrew
and John that Jesus was the Chosen One of God. Andrew and John then
followed Jesus. Andrew took his brother Simon to Jesus. Jesus
changed Simon's name to Peter, and Peter followed Jesus. Jesus met Philip and said to him
"Follow me". Philip called one more man, Nathanael
(Bartholomew) and said to him "we have found the one Moses and the
prophets wrote about. He is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth"
Jesus, please help me introduce more people to
know and love you

Reflection on the above readings: It's interesting how Psalm 23 (one of the most beautiful and most encouraging psalms) comes straight after Psalm 22 ... since 3 follows 2 ... one of the most distressful psalms. Maybe order of arrangement is not historical ... but just maybe David experienced great consolation one day thinking about his sheep and The Shepherd ... a day after some terrible experience. Bottom line ....when we are having a Psalm 22 day, try reading/praying Psalm 23!

In
today's Gospel Jesus gives Simon a new name "Peter" (meaning "rock").

c.f. readings for Sunday 19

Kings 19: Elijah once spent a
night in a cave. The Lord then told him to stand at the mouth of the cave. Then
there was a mighty wind that shattered trees and rocks. But the Lord was not in
the wind. Then there was an earthquake. But the Lord was not in the
earthquake. Then there was a gentle breeze. And
the Lord was in the breeze. Not long after this Elijah called Elisha to
become his follower.
Dear Lord, please help us be aware of your presence in our lives
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
85: I will hear what the Lord God has to
say, a voice that speaks of peace.
Peace for his people and his friends and those who turn to him in their hearts.
His help is near for those who love him and his glory will dwell in our land.
Mercy and faithfulness have met. Justice and peace have embraced. Faithfulness
shall spring from the earth and justice shall look down from heaven. The Lord
will make us prosper and our earth shall yield its fruit. Justice shall march
before him
and peace shall follow his steps
Lord, please give more peace to our world

Romans
9.1-5: There is a great
sorrow in my heart. It's with me day and night. It's the situation of the Jewish
people, how they will not accept the Anointed One. I am willing to do anything
to help them accept Jesus. I am willing to undergo the greatest suffering if
that would help them believe. They are my nation, my
family. They have been so blessed by God. From
their flesh and blood came Christ, who is God.
Jesus, God-made-flesh, I pray with Paul that the
Jewish people will believe in you

Matthew
14.22-33: After feeding the crowd with 5
loaves and 2 fish, Jesus told his disciples to go by boat across the nearby
lake. Jesus stayed to send the crowds away. Then he went up into the hills to
pray. When darkness came, the boat was far from land, but it was battling large
waves caused by a strong head-wind. Jesus
then walked on the water towards the boat. He called out to his disciples
"Courage. It is I. Don't be afraid." Peter answered "Lord, if it
is you, tell me to walk on the water to you." Jesus said
"Come". Peter then started walking on the water, but he became afraid
and began to sink. "Lord, save me" he called out. Jesus took him by
the hand and helped him to keep walking on the water. "Man of little faith,
why did you doubt?" asked Jesus. As
they got into the boat, the wind stopped. The men in the boat bowed to
Jesus and said "You really are the Son of God".
Jesus, please help me not to lose faith in you
Recording

Reflection on the above readings:
As long as Peter focused on Jesus, he was ok. But as soon as he focused on the wind and waves....trouble. Same with us - especially at wind and wave times - the more we can focus on Jesus, the more calmly and clearly and wisely and safely will be our footsteps...even on water!

1 Kings
4-5: Solomon enjoyed peace with all his
neighbouring countries.
He was blessed by God with great wisdom and understanding. He composed 3,000 proverbs and 1,000 songs.
People from all nations went to hear Solomon's wisdom. Solomon made preparations for building a
temple for the Lord.
Hiram, king of Tyre, made a treaty with Solomon.
Hiram provided wood for building the temple.
Dear God, please

My

Psalm
22: (Many
things in this psalm happened to Jesus when he was put to death. This psalm prophesizes Jesus' death):
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
I call to you for help, but day and night you give no reply. I am a worm and not a man.
Everyone who sees me makes fun of me. They taunt me: "He trusted in the
Lord, why doesn't the Lord help him?" Like water I am poured out, my bones no longer
connected.
My throat is parched, my tongue sticks to my jaws. Many evil people attack me.
They make holes in my hands and my feet.
They await my death. They divide my clothing among them,
they throw a dice for my robe. Yet I know Lord, that you are good and
holy.
I know how you heard the cries of our ancestors and you helped them. It was you who took me from the womb
and entrusted me to my mother's breast.
To you I was committed from my birth,
from my mother's womb you have been my God. Lord, I trust in you even now.
I trust you will not scorn my prayer. Even now I praise you as my Creator.
May all the nations know and worship you.
Lord, please help people who
are in big trouble right now,
especially people whose lives are in danger

Acts
20.28-38:
Paul continued "You elders are the
leaders of the Church of God.
Be on your guard against bad leaders trying to mislead people. Remember my example. I never asked anyone for
money or clothes. You know how my work as a tentmaker earned enough to
support my companions and me. Remember Jesus' words There is more
happiness in giving than in receiving". When he finished speaking, he knelt down with
them and prayed. Then they took him to the ship

John 1:
5, 19-34
John the Baptist was sent by God as a witness
to the people about the presence of the Word among them. When religious leaders asked John "Who
are you?", he replied "I am, as the prophet Isaiah prophesied, a
voice crying out: make a straight way for the Lord". When Jesus came to the river Jordan where John
was baptizing, John said "Look, there is the lamb of God who takes
away the sin of the world. He is far more important than I am, because he
existed (as the Word) before I was born. I saw the Holy Spirit come down on him like a
dove. He will baptize people with the Holy Spirit. He is the Chosen
One of God"
Jesus, lamb of God, Chosen One of God, please
baptize me with the Holy Spirit
Listen

Reflection on the above readings: John the Baptist did not call Jesus the messenger of God or the prophet of God or the priest of God ... but ... the lamb of God ... indicating sacrifice ... since just as the blood of a lamb once rescued the Hebrews from Egypt so Jesus' blood rescues us from all sorts of Egypts

1 Kings 3: The Lord appeared to King Solomon in a dream
and said "Ask me for anything you'd like." Solomon asked for wisdom: "Give your
servant a heart to understand how to discern between good and evil." God replied: "I now give you a heart full
of wisdom,
wisdom greater than anyone else has ever had. And I also give you what you did not ask for:
riches and glory and long life." Not long after this, two prostitutes came for
judgement:
they lived in the same house and both had given birth to a son,
but one of the babies died during the night.
The mother of the dead baby changed babies
during the same night
and claimed that the living baby was hers. Solomon asked for a sword to cut the
living baby in two
and give half to each mother. The lying woman agreed, but the real mother
said
"No. Don't kill the baby. Give it to the other woman." Solomon then knew the real mother was telling
the truth
and gave the baby to her.
For wisdom such as this, Solomon's reputation spread far.
Dear Lord, please give me more
wisdom for my life

Psalm
20-21: May the Lord protect and help you,
may he give you your heart's desire
and fulfil every one of your
plans. Some trust in chariots or horses,
but we trust in the Lord.
Lord, may our plans and hopes
be acceptable to you.

Acts
20.22-24:
Paul continued "Now you see me a prisoner
already in spirit. I am on my way to Jerusalem, and have no idea what will
happen to me there.
The Holy Spirit has made it clear that imprisonment and persecution await
me there. But life to me is not a thing to waste words
on. What matters is that when I finish my race, I have carried out the
mission the Lord Jesus gave me - to bear witness to the Good News of God's
grace"
Jesus, please help me live a worthwhile life
Listen

John
1.1-14: From all eternity the Word existed.
The Word was with God the Father.
The Word was God the Son. The Word was the source of life for all
creatures. The Word became a man, and lived among
us.
We saw his glory, full of grace and truth. Many people did not recognize and did not accept the
Word.
But to everyone who did accept him,
he gave power to become children of God
Jesus, please help me understand how you are
the Word-made-flesh
Listen

Reflection on the above Bible readings: Today's Gospel clearly states the divinity of Jesus. But some groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses change the text to deny the divinity of Jesus. "When you don't agree with something in the Bible, change the Bible's words to agree with you".

Daniel
7: Once when Daniel was asleep, he
had a vision of heaven: "Thrones were put in place and one of great age
took his seat. His robe was white as snow, his hair as pure as wool. A thousand
thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. Then
coming on the clouds of heaven was one
like a son of man. On him was conferred glory and kingship, and
people of all nations became his servants. His kingship is eternal. His empire
will never be destroyed."

kingship is eternal

Psalm
97: The Lord is king, let
earth rejoice, the many coastlands be glad. Cloud and darkness are his robes.
His throne is justice and goodness. The skies proclaim his goodness. All peoples
see his glory. Let those who serve idols be ashamed. Let
all creation worship the Creator. Light shines
forth for good people. and joy for the upright of heart. Rejoice in the Lord,

Peter 1.12-18: As long as I
am in this passing world, my duty is to keep on reminding you of the truths we
hold dear. Writing this letter is one way of making sure that after my departure
you will still have a way of recalling the truths we hold dear. These truths are
not cleverly invented myths. I myself saw the majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He was honored and glorified by God the Father, when the Sublime Glory
himself spoke to him and said "This is my Son, the Beloved. He enjoys my
favor". I
heard this myself, spoken from heaven, when I was with Jesus on the holy
mountain.
Jesus, Beloved Son, may more and more people

Matthew
17.1-8: One day Jesus took his disciples
Peter, James and John up a high mountain. On
the mountain Jesus' whole appearance changed. His face shone like the
sun. His clothes were as white as snow. The prophets Moses and Elijah
appeared and spoke with him. Peter said to Jesus "Lord, how good it is
for us to be here!" Then a bright cloud covered them with its shadow. From
the cloud came a voice: "This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him."
The disciples bowed to the ground. When they got up, they saw only Jesus in his
normal appearance.
Jesus, Beloved Son of God, how good it is to
spend time with you in prayer.

Psalm
19 (sun + law = the "sun-in-law"
psalm):
The heavens proclaim the glory of God,
the starry skies are the work of his hands. The stars can't speak, but they are
God's handwriting.
The sun is God's love shining on the whole world. The universe is a masterpiece, and so is God's
law
which shines in our hearts. The precepts of the Lord
enlighten our lives
each day.
The law of the Lord gives joy and wisdom to our hearts. The decrees of the Lord are to be desired more
than gold,
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. But often we are unaware of our
errors.
Lord, please protect us from making mistakes.

humility, facing all the sorrows and trials that came to me through the
plots of the Jews. I have not hesitated to do anything
