RECORD! Yesterday

displayed on our Caurosell site here
(skilful buyer negotiated a discount for agreeing to pay and collect

1 Kings
19: Elijah once spent a night in a cave.
The Lord then told him to stand at the mouth of the cave. Then there was a mighty wind that
shattered trees and rocks.
But the Lord was not in the wind. Then there was an earthquake.
But the Lord was not in the earthquake. Then there was a gentle breeze.
And the Lord was in the breeze. Not long after this
Elijah called Elisha to become his follower.
Dear Lord, please help us
be aware of your presence in our lives
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
32: Happy is the person whose sin is forgiven.
For a while I refused to ask for forgiveness,
and my body paid the penalty. But then I said "Lord, forgive me"
and my spirit and body revived.
Lord, when I do wrong, please give me the grace to say sorry and ask forgiveness
Listen

Acts
24.1-26:
When the religious leaders arrived,
they put their case to Felix.
They summed up their accusations by saying "The plain truth is that
we find this man to be a perfect pest.
He stirs up trouble among Jews everywhere, and is a ringleader of the
Nazarene sect". Paul replied "In regard to the
Way, which they malign as a sect,
I serve and worship the very same God worshipped by our ancestors. I live
in hope that God will raise the dead. If that's my crime, my accusers are
just as guilty as I am". Felix postponed a decision. He met
with Paul many times, hoping Paul would offer him a
bribe

Listen

John
4.1-14:
Jesus visited a Samaritan town. Near a well
there, Jesus said to a Samaritan woman "Give me a drink".
He also said to her "If you drink water from this well, you
will get thirsty again. But if you drink the water that I shall give, you
will never be thirsty again.
The water that I shall give will turn into a spring of eternal life inside
you"
Jesus, please give me a drink of your eternal
life water - which is your Holy Spirit
Listen
Reflection on the above readings: Jews were not supposed to speak to Samaritans ... and a man was not supposed to speak to a woman in a situation like that at the well.

1 Kings
18: In the 3rd year of drought,
the Lord sent Elijah to speak to Ahab. Elijah got Ahab to gather all the
people
and all the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. Elijah challenged the prophets of
Baal
to produce fire to consume a sacrificed bull. Elijah mocked the false prophets
as they ranted and raved
and cut themselves, but produced no fire for their bull. Then Elijah got the people to
pour water on his bull
and he prayed to God to hear his prayer. A fire from heaven then consumed
the bull
and the people acknowledged the Lord as God. Elijah then told Ahab there would
soon be rain,
and the sky grew dark and produced torrents of rain.
Dear God, please help people not to follow false

31: Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in
distress.
My eyes are full of tears, my heart full of sorrow. Everyone makes fun of me. My friends don't want to know me.
Save me, Lord, from this mess. I praise you Lord, for you protect those who trust you.
You keep them safe from slander and lies. Be strong, let your heart take courage,

I trust in you, Lord. My life

Acts
23.12-22: The next day about 40 Jews held a meeting. They decided not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. They
asked the religious leaders to arrange another meeting so that they could
attack Paul. But the son of Paul's sister heard of the
plot. He got into the barracks and told Paul. Paul got the boy to tell the
captain. The captain immediately arranged for a large group of soldiers to
take Paul to Caesarea to be tried by Felix the governor. Felix said "I will wait till your
accusers come here too, then I will hear your case"
Jesus, please help people who are in danger of

Listen

John
3.25-36: Some of John the Baptist's disciples told
John that many of his disciples were leaving him and following Jesus. John replied "I am not the Christ. I am
the one who was sent to prepare his way. The bride is only for the
bridegroom. But the bridegroom's friend is happy when he hears the
bridegroom's voice. This is the happiness I now feel. He must become more and more

56: Foreigners who love and
serve the Lord - these I will bring to my holy mountain, says the Lord. I will
make them joyful in my house of prayer, for my
house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.
Lord, please help all peoples of the world know that you are their loving

Psalms
66-68: O God, be gracious and bless
us and let your face shine its light upon us. Let
all the peoples praise you, O God. Let all the peoples praise you. O sing
to the Lord, make music to his name. Rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence.

10.1-4: I
have a really great love for the Jews. I pray to God for them to be
saved. They have a strong belief in God, but their zeal is misguided. They can't
see that friendship with God is a gift from God, not just a matter of external
practices.

Matthew
15.21-28: Jesus went to the coastal
district near Tyre and Sidon. A foreign
woman followed him and shouted "Sir, Son of David, have pity on me.
My daughter is tormented by an evil spirit." At first Jesus did not answer
her, so his disciples said to him. "Help her, because she keeps shouting
after us." Jesus replied "I was sent only to the people of
Israel". The foreign woman by now was kneeling at Jesus' feet. "Lord,
help me" she pleaded. Jesus said to her "Woman,
you have great faith. Your wish is granted". At that very
moment, her daughter was healed.
Jesus, please give sick people great faith in
you

Revelation
12: The sanctuary of God in heaven opened and the
ark of the covenant could be seen inside it. Then came flashes of lightning,
peals of thunder and an earthquake, and violent hail. Now a great sign
appeared in heaven: a

Psalm
44: The daughters of kings are among your loved
ones. On
your right stands the queen in gold of Ophir. Listen, O
daughter, give ear to my words: forget your own people and your father's
house. So will the king desire your beauty: He is your lord, pay homage
to him. They are escorted amid gladness and joy; they pass within the palace

Corinthians 15: Christ
has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep.
Death came through one man and in the same way the resurrection of the dead has
come through one man. Just
as all people die in Adam, so all people will be brought to life in Christ; but
all of them in their proper order: Christ as the first-fruits and then, after
the coming of Christ, those who belong to him. After that will come the end,
when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, having done away with every
sovereignty, authority and power. For he must be king until he has put all his
enemies under his feet and the last of the enemies to be destroyed is death, for
everything is to be put under his feet.

Luke
1: Mary set out and went as quickly as she could
to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah's house and
greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child
leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a
loud cry and said, "Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is
the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother
of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb
leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by
the Lord would be fulfilled." And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the
greatness of the Lord, and my spirit exults in God my saviour; because he has
looked upon his lowly handmaid. Yes,
from this day forward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty
has done great things for me"

Reflection on the above readings:
The spirituality of Mary invites us to the values of Catholic Social Teaching: concern for the poor, solidarity with all people, a preference for the ways of nonviolence rather than military might, forgiveness and reconciliation rather than domination and manipulation.

1 Kings 12-16:
After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam became
king.
The people asked Rehoboam not to be harsh like Solomon.
Solomon had imposed heavy taxes, enforced labor etc. Rehoboam asked the elders for
advice.
They said "Treat the people kindly and they will serve
you." Rehoboam asked his peers for
advice.
They said "Treat the people more harshly than your
father." Rehoboam accepted the advice of
his peers.
Therefore the people of Israel rejected him as king.
Only the people of Judah accepted him. The people of Israel made
Jeroboam king.
He had previously led an unsuccessful revolt against Solomon. Rehoboam and Jeroboam died and
were succeeded by various kings who ruled over Judah and Israel.

Acts
22-23:
To find out why the Jews were attacking Paul,
the captain arranged a meeting of the religious leaders, and allowed Paul
to speak to them. Paul realized that the leaders had two groups:
Sadducees (who didn't believe in angels or an after-life) and Pharisees
(who did believe in angels and an after-life). So Paul called out "I am a Pharisee. It
is for our hope in the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial".
This caused the Pharisees and Sadducees to begin a violent argument that
put Paul's life in danger. The captain ordered Paul to be taken back into
the barracks. The next night, the Lord appeared to him and said
"Courage! You have born witness for me in Jerusalem. Now you must do
the same in Rome"

3.13-17: Jesus said to the religious leader:
"The Son of Man must be lifted up on a cross, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so that everyone who
believes may have eternal life in him". God loved the world so much, that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may
have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to
condemn the world,
but so that through him the world might be saved

My
recording of this reading

Psalms
24-26: The Lord's is the earth and all its
peoples.
It is the Lord who is Creator of the universe. May all hearts open their doors to the
Lord.
Let him enter, the king of glory. Lord I hope in you all the day long.
Forgive my sins and help me walk in your truth.
God my savior, teach me your
way of truth

Acts
21.15-40:
In Jerusalem Paul gave a report to James and
other Christian leaders of all that God had done for non-Jews through his ministry.
But Paul was soon seen by Jews from where he
had traveled. He was dragged out of the Temple and beaten by a wild crowd.
The beating was stopped by a Roman captain who had Paul bound with chains. The crowd was calling out for Paul to be
killed. Paul asked for permission to speak to the
crowd and the captain agreed. Paul then spoke to the crowd in Hebrew
Jesus, please protect Christians who live in
dangerous places

John
2.1-11:
Jesus, his mother and his disciples were
guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him
"They have no wine".
Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special things has not yet
come". His mother said to the servants
"Do whatever he tells you".
There were 6 big containers there, used for
holding water. Each could hold about 35 liters. Jesus said to the servants
"Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give
it to the man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted
the water, it had turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said
"You have kept the best wine until now". This was the first public miracle done by
Jesus
Jesus,
help me to do whatever you tell
me to do

Reflection on the above readings: Without Mary's request, Jesus would not have changed water into wine. So we can say that our prayer requests to Jesus can generate more of his help for other people. ... just as parents/teachers respond to the reasonable requests of their children/students. Our prayers for any person, place or issue can make a difference.
