Readings for Feast of Presentation
Malachi
3.1-2: The Lord God says this: Look, I am going to
send my messenger to prepare a way before me. And the Lord you are seeking will
suddenly enter his Temple.
Jesus presented in the Temple on this day, we praise
you Lord
My

Psalms
24-26: The Lord's is the
earth and all its peoples. It is the Lord who is Creator of the universe.
May all hearts open their doors to the Lord. Let
him enter, the king of glory. Lord
I hope in you all the day long. Forgive my sins and help me walk in your truth.
God my savior, teach me your way of truth

Hebrews
2.14-18: The
Son did not become an angel. He became a man, so that he could die for
us. By his death he took away the power of the devil. He himself experienced
temptation. He is able to help us when we are tempted.
Jesus, please help me when I am tempted to do something wrong

Luke
2.22-32: When
Jesus was 40 days old, his parents took him to the Temple in Jerusalem to
present him to the Lord, as the Law required. In Jerusalem there was an
old man named Simeon. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that before he died,
he would see the Christ of the Lord. Prompted by the Spirit, he came to the
Temple, took Jesus in his arms and praised God, saying "Now, Master, you
can let your servant go in peace, for my eyes have seen the Savior. He is a
light to enlighten the pagans, and he is the glory of your people Israel".
Jesus, true Light of the world, we praise you
Lord

Reflection
on the above Bible readings:
Simeon in Luke's Gospel and the three wise men in Matthew's Gospel have the same
message: the Baby born in
the stable is the Saviour of not just Israel but of the whole world. May all
places, all hearts "let him enter"
(Psalms 24-26)

shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.
Listen to the voice of the Lord: "I am the Lord your God
who brought you out from the land of Egypt. Let there be no foreign god among you,

Matthew
26.17-29: On Passover Eve, Jesus ate a last meal with
his apostles.
While they were eating, Jesus told them he knew he would be betrayed by
one of them. He told Judas he knew he was the betrayer. Then Jesus took some bread,
blessed it and gave it to his apostles saying "Take this and eat it.
This is my body". Then he took a cup of wine,
blessed it and gave it to them saying
"Take this and drink it. This is my blood".
Jesus, please help me understand how bread and
wine become your body and blood when Christians celebrate the Eucharist
Listen

Reflection on the above readings: Why did Jesus wait till his final meal before giving his apostles his Body and Blood? Maybe he was following the ancient Biblical tradition where famous figures gave their final solemn blessing just before they died. And maybe he waited till he was about to leave them physically before giving them giving them his on-going presence, his on-going Incarnation in the Eucharist.

Pope Francis - Fratelli
Tutti:
186: If someone helps an elderly person
cross a road, that is a fine act of charity. The politician, on the other hand,
builds a bridge, and that too is an act of charity. While
one person can help another by providing something to eat, the politician
creates a job for another person, and thus practices a lofty form of
charity that ennobles his or her political activity.

Mark
1.21-28: Jesus and the fishermen went
to the town of Capernaum. On the Sabbath Jesus began to teach in the local
prayer hall. The listeners were deeply impressed by Jesus' teaching. Unlike the
religious leaders, Jesus taught with authority. That very day in the prayer hall
there was a man possessed by an evil spirit. The spirit shouted out
"Have you come to destroy me, Jesus of Nazareth? I know who you are:
the Holy One of God." Jesus said strongly "Be quiet! Come out of
him!" The evil spirit threw the man on the ground and with a loud cry went
out of him. The people in the prayer hall were amazed. They said "Here
is a teaching which has authority. Even evil spirits obey him."
Jesus' reputation quickly spread throughout the whole district

Wise people know when to speak and how much to speak. The talk of a foolish person is like a load on

The talk of a wise person is a pleasure to hear. Lord, do not give me proud eyes.

They have made Jerusalem a heap of ruins. We have become the taunt of our

At the meal, a woman put expensive burial oil on Jesus'

The woman understood that Jesus was soon to die. One of Jesus' 12 apostles, Judas

The leaders paid Judas 30 pieces of silver.
Judas looked for an opportunity to arrange the arrest.

For many people today, politics is a
distasteful word, often due to the mistakes, corruption and inefficiency
of some politicians. There are also attempts to discredit politics, to replace
it with economics or to twist it to one ideology or another. Yet can our world
function without politics? Can there be an effective process of growth towards
universal fraternity and social peace without a sound political life?

Sirach 15-19: Wisdom makes us happy. Foolishness makes us
sad.
Humility is the pathway to wisdom. We are free to choose good or evil, wisdom or
foolishness.
To live a good life is something everyone can try to do. If we have done something wrong, we must ask
pardon of the Lord.
We must turn our back on wrongdoing, and face towards the Lord. Do not indulge in luxurious living.
Too much wine and luxury corrupts the heart. Avoid gossip and slander.
Be someone who can keep a secret. The way people dress tells you what work they
do.
The way people walk also tells a lot about them.
Lord, please help me turn my
back on wrongdoing.
Help me face towards you
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
78: Listen, everyone, to my teaching.
I will recount the lessons of our history. The things our parents have told us,
we will not hide from our children,
but will pass them on to the next generation. We want the next generation to know
all that the Lord has done for us in the past. May the next generation in turn
pass on this knowledge to their own children,
so that they too will put their hope in God
and never forget all that God has done for us. May future generations not be like our
ancestors
who so often were unfaithful to God. Even though our ancestors had seen God part
the sea,
even though they had seen him provide food and water for them
in the desert, still they went on sinning. Yet he who is full of compassion forgave and
spared them.
He remembered they were only weak humans. Eventually he brought them to the promised
land
and gave a home to each of Israel's tribes. But still they sinned by building mountain
shrines
and serving idols. Then God raised up David to be their
leader.
God called him from looking after sheep to be the shepherd of his people.
Lord, help us not to forget all
you have done for us

Thessalonians 5.1-11: The Lord's coming will not find us unprepared
if we live a good life. You are not children of the night and of

Put on the hope of salvation for a helmet.

Matthew
25. 31-46: Jesus said to his disciples:
When I come in glory at the end of the world,
all peoples of all times will be gathered in front of me. I will separate them, like a
shepherd separates sheep from goats.
I will place the sheep on my right, the goats on my left. I will say to those on my right
"Come and enter my kingdom.
For I was hungry, and you gave me food.
I was thirsty, and you gave me drink.
I was a stranger, and you made me welcome.
I was naked, and you clothed me.
I was sick, and you visited me.
I was in prison, and you came to see me".
Then those good people on my right will say
"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you?
When did we see you thirsty and give you a drink?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you,
naked and clothe you, sick or in prison, and visit you?" I will answer
"Each time you helped and cared for a poor person,
you helped and cared for me".
Then I will say to those on my
left
"Go away from me and join Satan and his angels in hell. For I was hungry, and you never
gave me food.
I was thirsty, and you never gave me anything to drink.
I was a stranger, and you never made me welcome,
naked, and you never clothed me,
sick and in prison, and you never visited me". Those on my left will then ask
"Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked,
sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?" I will answer
"Each time you refused to help and care for a poor person,
you refused to help and care for me". Those on the left will then go to
eternal punishment.
Those on the right will go to eternal life.
Jesus, please help me do more for poor people.
Make me understand that when I help a poor person, I help you

decades ago) hoping they would show him compassion

I would once more observe that "the financial crisis of 2007-08 provided an
opportunity to develop a new economy, more attentive to ethical principles, and
new ways of regulating speculative financial practices and virtual wealth. But
the response to the crisis did not include rethinking the outdated criteria
which continue to rule the world". Indeed,
it appears that the actual strategies developed worldwide in the wake of the
crisis fostered greater individualism, less integration and increased freedom
for the truly powerful, who always find a way to escape unscathed.

168. The
marketplace, by itself, cannot resolve every problem, however much we are
asked to believe this dogma of neoliberal faith. Whatever the challenge, this
impoverished and repetitive school of thought always offers the same recipes.
Neoliberalism simply reproduces itself by resorting to the magic theories of
"spillover" or "trickle" - without using the name - as the
only solution to societal problems. There is little appreciation of the fact
that the alleged "spillover" does not resolve the inequality that
gives rise to new forms of violence threatening the fabric of society.

As the governor is, so will be the inhabitants of his city. What has dust and ashes to pride itself on?
A king today is a corpse tomorrow. Do not praise a person for good looks,
nor dislike anyone for appearance. Small among winged creatures is the bee,
but nothing is sweeter than her honey.
Lord, please give our world
good leaders
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
72: O Lord, please bless the king,
that he might serve your people with justice. May the mountains bring forth peace for the
people
and the hills, justice. The kings of Sheba and Seba bring him gifts.
All nations will serve him. He will save the poor when they cry for help
and the needy who are helpless. He will have pity on the weak
and save the lives of the poor. May every tribe be blessed in him.
May every nation bless his name.
May all the nations know and
love you, Lord

Thessalonians 4.1-11: We urge you and appeal to you in the Lord
Jesus to make more and more progress in the kind of life you are meant to
live. God wants you to be holy. He wants you to keep
away from fornication. Live life peacefully. Get a decent job and
earn your living
Jesus, make me be a better person, a
better Christian
Listen
Matthew
23.1-36: Jesus told the people to respect
their religious leaders, but he condemned the religious leaders
for not practising what they preached, for doing things just to attract attention,
for craving front seats and places of honor, for being concerned only with externals.
Jesus called the religious
leaders "hypocrites", "blind guides", "tombs that look good on the outside but are full of dead
bones".
Jesus, help religious leaders be good
people
