When one part of society exploits all that the world has to offer, acting as if
the poor did not exist, there will eventually be consequences. Sooner
or later, ignoring the existence and rights of others will erupt in some form of
violence,
often when least expected. ((

Isaiah
1: Listen, heaven and
earth,
for the Lord is speaking: "The ox
knows its
owner and the donkey its master's crib.
But my people have rebelled against me. I am tired of your
hypocritical lives,
tired of offerings given with dirty hands. You are so greedy for
profit,
always looking for bribes. Take your wrong-doing
out of my sight.
Stop doing evil. Learn to do good.
Practise justice towards the poor.
Help the oppressed, the orphan and the widow. Then, though your sins
are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow."
Lord,
please help me "wash my hands" by doing good for poor people
My
recording of this reading

Psalm 92: It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning,
and your truth right through the night. Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad.
For the work of your hands, I shout with joy. To me you give the wild ox's strength.
You anoint me with the purest oil. May we love and praise you right through our
lives,
right till the end of our days. May we keep on proclaiming your goodness,
proclaiming that in you, our rock, there is only goodness.
Lord, it is right and fitting
to love and praise you

Matthew
27.57-66:
Joseph from Arimathaea was a rich man who had
become a disciple of Jesus. After Jesus died on Friday, he asked Governor Pilate for
Jesus' body. Joseph wrapped the body in a clean
burial cloth and put it in his own new tomb in a rock cave. He then put a
large stone at the cave's entrance. The next day, Saturday, the religious
leaders went to Pilate and said
"This imposter said he would rise from the dead after 3
days.
Therefore you should secure the tomb in case his disciples steal the body
and say he has risen from the dead".
Pilate gave them a guard and told them to secure the tomb.
The guards took up their position at the tomb
and seals were put on the entrance stone.
Jesus in the tomb, please give
eternal life to all who have died

Yesterday afternoon there were two lots of special people at my
home for Lunar New Year visits: a group of old friends from Notre Dame Parish in
Kowloon City where I worked for ten years. And two former prisoners who are now
based at the Mercy Centre on Cheung Chau Island.
After their visits I went to the chapel at Yau Ma Tei Parish for a time of prayer ... remembering clearly 56 years ago on Feb 14, 1965 when I left my parents' home in Brisbane for the long train trip to Melbourne for seminary studies. A sacred memory, saying goodbye (temporarily) on the platform of South Brisbane station to my dear mother, father, brother and O.M.I.s from Iona College where I had just finished secondary school.

I prayed for wisdom. Thanks to

And so I finish this book by praising the God who gave me wisdom:
I give thanks to you, Lord and King,

Timothy 4.1-7: Don't be surprised if some people come up with
strange ideas about how to live life. Satan and his friends are always
trying to sow lies and deception in the Lord's field of truth. Have nothing to do with strange ideas like
"marriage is forbidden" or "you are not allowed to eat

Then he died. At that moment the holy curtain

Their leader called out "Truly this was a son of God".

207. What is law without the
conviction, born of age-old reflection and great wisdom, that
each human being is sacred and inviolable? If society is to have a
future, it must respect the truth of our human dignity and submit to that truth.
Murder is not wrong simply because it is socially unacceptable and punished by
law, but because of a deeper conviction. This is a non-negotiable truth attained
by the use of reason and accepted in conscience. A society is noble and decent
not least for its support of the pursuit of truth and its adherence to the most
basic of truths.

Corinthians 10.16 - 11.1: The
cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ. The bread that we
break is a communion with the body of Christ. Avoid anything to do with idol
worship. It doesn't make sense to share in the table of the Lord and in
the table of demons. Whatever you eat,
whatever you drink, whatever you do at all, do it for the glory of God.
Never do anything offensive to anyone. Try to be helpful to everyone at all
times, not anxious for your own advantage, but for the advantage of others, so
that they may be saved. Take me for your model, as I take Christ.

Mark
1.40-45: A
leper came to Jesus and on his knees pleaded "If you want to, you
can heal me". Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched
him and said "Of course I want to
heal you. Be healed!" The leprosy left him at that moment and he was
healed. Jesus told the man not to tell people what had happened (in case people
misunderstood Jesus' spiritual mission and tried to use him politically).
But the man told everyone. Soon Jesus could not go openly into any town (for
fear the crowds would become unruly) so he stayed in remote places. Even so,
people from all around the district would come to him.
Jesus, please heal people who are lepers

To want to be a presiding elder is to want to

That is why the president must be above reproach: He must not have been married more than once.
He must be temperate, discreet, courteous, hospitable, a good teacher, not
a heavy drinker, not hot-tempered, but kind and peaceable. He must not be a lover of money. He must be a
man who manages his family well and brings up his children well. How could anyone who can't manage his

Lack of dialogue means that in these individual sectors people are concerned not
for the common good, but for the benefits of power or, at best, for ways to
impose their own ideas. Round tables thus become mere negotiating sessions, in
which individuals attempt to seize every possible advantage, rather than
cooperating in the pursuit of the common good. The
heroes of the future will be those who can break with this unhealthy mindset and
determine respectfully to promote truthfulness, aside from personal interest.
God willing, such heroes are quietly emerging, even now, in the midst of our
society

Today is a good day to pray for everyone with the Covid-19 virus, because today is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes ... World Day of the Sick - for which Pope Francis has published a special letter, here
True story: a few
days ago I received an email from a man I'd never met. He had been to a birthday
party where the host gave each guest a red packet containing HK$2,000 to give to
a poor person of their choice. The kind man, a Christian, had heard about the
work of MercyHK and asked me to give the packet to a poor person of my choice.
The man gave me the envelope yesterday afternoon and last night I gave it to a
homeless lady with a very serious medical condition staying at the Alhambra
Building in a room rented by MercyHK. God bless the birthday host, the
kind man and the sick lady!

Revelation
12.1-6: A
great sign appeared in heaven: a
woman, dressed in the sun, standing on the moon, crowned with 12 stars.
She was giving birth to a child, and she cried out in the pain of childbirth.
Then a second sign appeared: a huge red dragon, which wanted to eat the child.
The woman gave birth to a son, the ruler of all nations. The son was taken
straight up to heaven, to God on his throne. The woman escaped to safety in the
desert, to a place prepared for her by God.

2.1-11: Jesus,
his mother and his disciples were guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The
wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him "They
have no wine". Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special
things has not yet come". His
mother said to the servants "Do whatever he tells you". There
were 6 big containers there, used for holding water. Each could hold about 35
liters. Jesus said to the servants "Fill the containers with water"
and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give it to the
man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted the water, it had
turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said "You have kept the
best wine until now". This was the first public miracle done by Jesus

205. The internet, in
particular, offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity. This is
something truly good, a gift from God. We need constantly to ensure that
present-day forms of communication are in fact guiding us to generous encounter
with others, to honest pursuit of the whole truth, to service, to closeness to
the underprivileged and to the promotion of the common good. As
the Bishops of Australia have pointed out, we cannot accept "a digital
world designed to exploit our weaknesses and bring out the worst in people".

Timothy 1.18-2.8: Timothy, my son, as I
give you advice for practical issues, remember how the church elders
prayed over you that you would be a good leader. My
first bit of advice
is that there should be prayers offered for everyone, especially for kings
and others in authority, so that we can live our life of faith in peace
and quiet. God wants everyone to
be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth. There is only one God,
and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a man,
Christ Jesus, who sacrificed himself as a ransom for everyone. In every place, I want
believers to lift up their hands in reverent prayer

cried out in a loud voice.
Then he died. At that moment the holy curtain
in the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and there was a violent
earthquake. The Roman soldiers were
terrified.
Their leader called out "Truly this was a son of God".
Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for the
salvation of the world
