Yesterday morning I enrolled 4 more drug addicts for a daily free
rice box with soup from a local canteen - sponsored by MercyHK. The 4 men often
go hungry all day, using whatever money they can beg/borrow/steal to pay for
their daily heroin dose. I am hoping that regular contact with them will lead to
something good .... please God!
Update here
from Camay who is recovering from stage 4 lung cancer .... with some photos of
last Sunday's blessing of the Doctor Jesus Centre in Temple Street, Jordan
Since yesterday afternoon I have been at Sheung Shui at the
monthly O.M.I. overnight retreat. Two of our group are absent: Fr Jun is in
lockdown in the Philippines after attending the funeral of his dear mother, and
Fr Slawek is on day 4 of a 21 day quarantine in HK after attending the funeral
of his dear father in Poland. May the 2 parents in Heaven help us by their
prayers!

Ezekiel
4-11: Ezekiel used many images to describe the fall of Jerusalem.
But the people and their leaders would not believe him. God used
Ezekiel to say to the exiles: "I will bring you back to your homeland of Israel.
I will give you a new heart and a new
spirit.
Then you will keep my commandments.
Then you will know that I am the Lord."
Grant to us, O Lord, a
heart renewed
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
3: When people make fun of me for believing in
you, Lord,
I deeply remember how you are my help and my shield. Even when the whole world seems against me,
I can go to bed and sleep easy, knowing that you protect me. O Lord, please rescue me from people who plot
against me.
Lord our savior, please bless everyone who needs help.
Lord, thank you for your
protection and help
Listen
1 Peter
3.1-7:
Wives, honor and respect your husbands. If some husbands
are not yet believers, they may find
themselves won over to the Lord, without a word spoken, by the goodness of
their wives. Wives, do not dress up for show: special hair
style, gold bracelets, expensive clothes - all outside stuff. What matters is what's inside: a sweet and
gentle disposition - that's what God likes. Husbands, be kind and thoughtful to your
wives, respecting them as equals
Jesus, help husbands and wives
imitate your love
Listen

Mark
12.28-30:
In Jerusalem a religious leader
asked Jesus
"Which is the most important commandment?" Jesus replied
"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart.
And you must care as much about others as you care about yourself. These are the two most important
commandments.
All other commandments depend on these two."
Jesus, please help me love you with all my heart and care for others as much as I care about myself

Reflection on the above readings: The words "respect your wives as equals" were written by a married man! In fact, right through the Bible, there is a strong theme of wife-husband loyalty/love/respect

Yesterday afternoon Bishop Joseph Ha kindly blessed the Doctor Jesus Centre at

inspiring occasion, with a most encouraging message from the bishop and a moving
sharing by Camay Lam who is recovering from stage 4 lung cancer and who, with
her business partner Yuki Fung, designed and sponsored the centre's renovations.

Ezekiel
1-3:
About 5 years after
the first group of Jews were exiled to Babylon,
Ezekiel received a vision while he was with the exiles in Babylon. Ezekiel saw the glory
of the Lord and he heard a voice saying:
"I am choosing you to speak my message to the people. Whether the people
listen to you or not,
you must keep on proclaiming my message. You are to be a sentry
to the House of Israel,
a lookout who warns them of danger coming."
Lord,
please help people listen to your message and obey it

Psalm
2: Why are the nations revolting against God?
Why won't the nations accept God? O kings and rulers of the
nations, listen to God's voice.
Serve the Lord with love and honor. Blessed are the nations that love
the Lord.
Let all the nations love you,
Lord. Let all the nations love you

1 Peter
2.19-25: If you are treated unfairly, put up with it
for the sake of God. Christ suffered for you and left an example
for you to follow.
He had done nothing wrong. He was insulted and tortured,
but did not retaliate. He bore our sins in his own body on the Cross,
so that we might die to sin and live for holiness. Through his wounds you have been healed.
You were like straying sheep,
but now have come back to the shepherd and guardian of your souls
Jesus, please help me put up with difficulties
for your sake
Listen
Mark
11.15-19: When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem,
he went to the Temple.
In the Temple there were money changers and people selling pigeons.
Jesus tipped over their tables and drove them out of the Temple.
He said to them "My house is a house of prayer for all the peoples of
the world,
but you have turned it into a place for robbery"
Jesus, protect all
places of prayer from corruption

c.f. readings for Easter 4
Acts
4.1-12: While
Peter was talking to the crowd, some religious leaders and soldiers came and
arrested Peter and John. The next day the leaders held a meeting and asked the
prisoners: "By what power and by whose name did you heal the crippled
beggar?" Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied "The cripple is
able to stand up perfectly healthy because he was healed by Jesus the Nazarene,
the one you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. Salvation comes no other
way. Only by the name of Jesus can we be
saved".
Jesus, your name means "God saves", you
are indeed the Saviour of
the world
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
118: Give thanks to the
Lord for he is good. His love has no end. Let the sons of Israel say: "His
love has no end." Let those who honor the Lord say: "His love has no
end." It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. It
is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. I was falling,
falling, falling, but the Lord was my helper. The Lord is my strength and my
song. He is my saviour. The Lord's right hand has triumphed. His right hand has
raised me up. I shall not die, I shall live and recount all his deeds. The stone
which the builders rejected has become the corner stone. This is the work of the
Lord, a marvel in our eyes. This day was
made by the Lord. We rejoice and are glad.
Lord, we give thanks to you, for you are good. Your love has no end

John 3.1-3: Think of the love
that the Father has lavished on us by letting us be called God's children. And
God's love has even more in store for us in the future: we
shall be like him because we shall see him as he really is. This is why
we must try to live good lives. We must try to be as good as Christ
Jesus, please help me be more like you
Listen

John
10.11-14: Jesus said to the religious
leaders "I am the Good Shepherd.
The Good Shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep. A hired man,
since he has no real concern for the sheep, abandons them and runs away if he
sees a wolf coming. I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own sheep, and my own
sheep know me".
Jesus, Good Shepherd, please help me to be a good sheep, and a good shepherd

To
go with today's Gospel:
A
shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW
advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Broni
suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks
the shepherd, "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock,
will you give me one?" The shepherd looks at the man, obviously a yuppie,
then looks at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answers, "Sure, Why
not?"
The
yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his
AT&T cell phone. He surfs to a NASA page on the internet, where he calls up
a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he
then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an
ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe
Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.
Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been
processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an
ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of complex formulas.
He
uploads all of this data via an email on his Blackberry and, after a few
minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page
report on his hi- tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and then turns to the
shepherd and says, "You have exactly 1,586 sheep."
"That's
right. Well, I guess you can take one of my sheep," says the honest
shepherd. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused
as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car. Then the shepherd says to
the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will
you give me back my sheep?"
The
young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, Why not?"
"You're
a consultant." says the shepherd. "Wow! That's correct," says the
yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"
"No
guessing required." answered the savvy shepherd, "You showed up here
even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already
knew; to a question I never asked; and you don't know anything about my
business.......now give me back my dog."

Mark
10.46-52: As Jesus was leaving Jericho on his way to Jerusalem,
many people followed him along the road. Sitting by the road was a man
who had become blind.
His name was Bartimaeus ("son of Timaeus").
When he heard that Jesus was going past,
he called out "Son of David, have pity on me". Some people tried to stop him
from calling out,
but he shouted even more loudly "Son of David, have pity on me".
Jesus stopped and said to him
"What do you want me to do for you?" He
replied "Lord, let me see again".
Jesus said to him "Go, your faith has saved you".
Immediately his sight returned, and he followed Jesus along the road

Lamentations 1-5:
The roads to Zion are in mourning.
No one comes to her festivals now. Jerusalem is a captured city,
a city of ruins. All you who pass this way, look and see.
Is there any sorrow like mine? My eyes are wasted away from crying
as I see children dying of starvation. Yet deep in my heart there is hope
that the Lord will rescue us
from this calamity which our sins have caused. The favors of the Lord are not just something of the past.
His kindness is for the present, even in times of despair. Every morning there are signs of his kindness,
and so I will continue to hope in him for help. Lord, forgive us
for abandoning you.
Do not abandon us.
Lord, especially when I'm in
trouble,
please help me to keep trusting in you for help
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
147: Praise the Lord for he is good.
Sing to our God for he is loving. To him our praise is due. The Lord builds up Jerusalem
and brings back Israel's exiles. He heals the broken-hearted
and binds up all their wounds. The Lord raises the lowly
and humbles the wicked. He fixes the number of the stars.
He calls each one by name. Our Lord is great and almighty.
His wisdom can never be measured. He covers the heavens with clouds.
He prepares rain for the earth, making mountains sprout with grass
and with plants to serve our needs. His delight is not in horses
nor his pleasure in warriors' strength. The Lord delights in those who love and honor
him,
in those who wait for his love.
It is right and fitting to
praise and love you, Lord our Creator

or country for the sake of my name, will receive a 100-fold blessing in
this life,
and will also receive eternal life in Heaven."
Jesus, please bless all Gospel

187: Smartone's 5G internet connection was installed yesterday at MercyHK's new centre "The Doctor Jesus Centre" in Temple Street, Jordan. Neither Simon (MercyHK's social work assistant who arranged the installation) or I have ever used 5G .... but we are looking forward to to checking it out! Smartone (= Vodafone) is cheaper (HK$213 per month) and faster than PCCW
Yesterday afternoon I attended two meetings to do with my work as

Readings are from
Simple Bible
Jeremiah
46-52: Jeremiah predicted that the powerful nations involved in
Israel's capture would all fall:
the Egyptians, the Philistines, the Moabites, the Ammonites,
the Babylonians and others. Jeremiah also reminded Israel to rely on the help of the Lord
more than the help of other nations: "Our redeemer is strong. The Lord is his name.
He will bring peace to the world". Lord, help us to rely on you
more than on human help
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
146: My soul, give
praise to the Lord.
I will praise the Lord all my days. Put no trust in
princes,
in mortal men in whom there is no help. Take their breath, they
return to clay
and their plans that day come to nothing. They are happy who are
helped by Jacob's God,
whose hope is in the Lord our God, who alone made heaven
and earth,
the seas and all they contain. It is he who gives
bread to the hungry,
the Lord, who sets prisoners free. It is the Lord who
gives sight to the blind,
who raises up those who are bowed down. It is the Lord who
protects the stranger
and upholds the widow and orphan. It is the Lord who
loves the just
but thwarts the path of the wicked. The Lord will reign for
ever,
Zion's God, from age to age.
Lord, please increase my trust
and faith in you

1 Peter
1.1-2:
Peter, apostle of Jesus Christ, sends
greetings to the believers living among foreigners. You were chosen by God the Father. You
were made holy by the Spirit. You are obedient to Jesus Christ
and are sprinkled with his blood. Grace and peace be with you more and more
Father, Son and Holy Spirit - thank you for
life and faith

Mark
10.17-27:
A young man asked Jesus
"Master, what do I have to do to get to Heaven?" Jesus replied "Keep the commandments:
do not kill; do not commit adultery; honor your father and mother;
care for others as much as you care about yourself". The young man said "I have kept all these
commandments.
What else do I need to do?" Jesus said "If you want to do something
really special with your life, go and sell all your possessions, give the
money to the poor,
then come and follow me as one of my disciples". When the young man heard these words he went
away sad,
because he was very rich.
Jesus then said to his disciples
"It is hard for a rich person to get to Heaven".
Jesus, please don't let riches
endanger my eternal life
