Yesterday afternoon I went on a shopping expedition to Tsim Sha
Tsui, beginning with a visit to Rosary Church, then the HKMA to enrol a prisoner
in a course, then to a bookstore to get some items for prisoners, then to
Mannings in Jordan to collect some "Ensure Plus" for a prisoner. I am
hoping to visit a prison today and another one tomorrow.

readings for Feast of St
Matthew
Isaiah 51-52: Pay
attention to me, you peoples. Listen to me, you nations. The islands put their
hope in the Lord. They put their trust in his strength. How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who
proclaims peace and salvation, and tells Zion "Your God is king!"
Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord is redeeming his
people. All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
Lord, may more and more people in more and more countries know you and love
you.
My
recording of this reading

Psalm 117: O
Praise the Lord, all you nations. Acclaim him, all you peoples! Strong is
his love for us. He is faithful for ever.
May all the nations love and praise you, Lord
Recording

Ephesians
4.1-16: I implore you to lead
a life worthy of your vocation. Bear with one another charitably, in complete
selflessness, gentleness and patience. If
we live by the truth and in love, we shall become more and more like Christ.
We are parts of the Body of Christ. Christ is the head. Each part must do its
bit to keep the Body healthy and growing in love.
Jesus, help me understand how the Church is your Body
Recording

Matthew
9.9-13: One day when Jesus
was walking past a customs house he said to a
tax collector named Matthew "Follow
me". Matthew got up and followed Jesus. Matthew invited Jesus and Jesus'
friends to a dinner in his house. Some tax collectors and "bad" people
sat at Jesus' table. Religious leaders saw this and complained to Jesus' friends
"Why does your master eat with tax collectors and bad people?" Jesus'
answer was "It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. Go and
think about the Bible words 'What I want is mercy, not sacrifice'. I have a
special concern for rejects and down-and-outs."
Jesus, please help religious leaders in today's world to care more about
people who are rejected by society

17: Once again the
people complained against Moses and Aaron.
This time through Moses God told the leaders of the 11 tribes
to bring 11 branches and plant them with Aaron’s branch.

Aaron's branch then became a sign to the people
that they should stop complaining

Psalm 22: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
I call to you for help, but day and night you give no reply. I am a worm and not a man.
Everyone who sees me makes fun of me. They taunt me: "He trusted in the
Lord, why doesn't the Lord help him?" Like water I am poured out, my bones no longer
connected.
My throat is parched, my tongue sticks to my jaws. Many evil people attack me.
They make holes in my hands and my feet.
They await my death. They divide my clothing among them,
they throw a dice for my robe. Yet I know Lord, that you are good and
holy.
I know how you heard the cries of our ancestors and you helped them. It was you who took me from the womb
and entrusted me to my mother's breast.
To you I was committed from my birth,
from my mother's womb you have been my God. Lord, I trust in you even now.
I trust you will not scorn my prayer. Even now I praise you as my Creator.

God grants you the safety of all who are sailing with you. On the 14th day,

large stone which had been put at the tomb's entrance had been rolled away.
They entered the tomb and found that the body
of Jesus was not there. Suddenly two men in brilliant clothes appeared at
their side. The men said to them "Why look among the

said he would". The women told all this to the eleven

Wisdom
1-2: Love
virtue, honesty and simplicity, since God is found by people whose hearts are
seeking goodness. Selfishness, dishonesty and bad habits, these close the door
of our hearts and prevent Wisdom
from entering. Bad people persecute good people, since the lives of good people
are a reproach to bad people.
Lord, please help me to be a good person

Psalms
52-60: Lord,
I will tell everyone about how good you are. You are our Creator. Everyone
should love you. Thank you for so often rescuing me from trouble. You uphold my
life. Sometimes I have so many troubles and cares that I can't get to sleep.
Sometimes I wish I was a bird and could fly away to a safe place. When I
fear, I will trust in you, in you whose word I praise. My heart is ready, O God,
my heart is ready. I will sing, I will sing your praise. Each morning I will
sing of your strength, and each morning
acclaim your love.
O God, please help me to praise and love you every day

Once again two lovely Friday gatherings yesterday at the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple Street .... 12.30 lunch with my social work assistants Simon and Patrick, and 6 mothers who work on Temple Street .... then 3pm Simon and I (helped by Bishop Ha on YouTube!) with 14 people most of whom used to sleep at McDonald's or in a park until MercyHK provided accommodation for them. 23.50-56: Joseph from the town of Arimathaea was a

had not agreed to the killing of Jesus. Late Friday afternoon, he went to Governor
Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. He took it down from the cross,
wrapped it in a burial cloth, and put it in a rock tomb that had not yet
been used. The women from Galilee who had come to

Reflection on the above Bible readings: The sin of Adam and Eve closed the door of Heaven to humanity. God could have reopened that door by just a word, but he chose to open it by sending his own Son to die on a Cross. Why did God go to such an extreme length to reopen Heaven? To show us in the most striking way possible how much he loves us .... and to make it as difficult as possible for us to choose evil/Hell over goodness/Heaven

"Are you willing to go to Jerusalem for a trial with the full council

for Feast of Mary of Sorrows
Hebrews 5.7-9: During his life on earth, Christ
offered up prayer and entreaty, aloud
and in silent tears, to the one who had the power to save him out of
death, and he submitted so humbly that his prayer was heard. Although he was
Son, he learnt to obey through suffering; but having been made perfect, he
became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation.

Psalm 31: In you, O Lord, I take refuge. Let me never be put to shame. In your justice, set me free, hear me and speedily rescue me. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mighty stronghold to save me, for you are my rock, my stronghold. Into your hands I commend my spirit. It is you who will redeem me, Lord. I trust in you, Lord. You are my God. My life is in your hands, deliver me from the hands of those who hate me.

Luke 2.33-35: As
the child's father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were
being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: "You
see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in
Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected - and
a sword will pierce your own soul too - so that the secret thoughts
of many may be laid bare."

19.25-27: Near
the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother's
sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the
disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, "Woman, this
is your son". Then to the disciple he said, "This is your
mother". And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home
