I spent most of yesterday on office jobs .... 95% of
them to do with prisoners ....including an article for next Monday's Ming Pao
newspaper highlighting the situation of 50 year old mentally disordered HK man
Wu Chi Man who is due to be executed for drug trafficking very soon across the
border in Shenzhen. And I'm hoping today's Ming Pao will have a report on this
case ....with the aim of urging the HK govt to do something to stop the
execution. JESUS, PLEASE HELP WU CHI MAN!

Psalm
32: Happy is the person whose sin is forgiven.
For a while I refused to ask for forgiveness,
and my body paid the penalty. But then I said "Lord, forgive me"
and my spirit and body revived.
Lord, when I do wrong, please give me the grace to say sorry and ask forgiveness

Romans
2.13-29:
People become holy in God's sight by doing
what is right.
Listening to God's Law is not enough. We have to put it into practice in
our lives. Non-Jewish people who follow a good conscience
and do what is right,
have God's Law engraved on their hearts. What matters is not circumcision of the body,
but circumcision of the heart.
The real Jew is one who is a Jew in his

John
2.13-22:
Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus went up
to Jerusalem. In the Temple he saw people selling cattle and sheep and
pigeons, with money changers sitting at their counting tables. Jesus made a whip out of some cord, then drove
the sellers out of the Temple, cattle and sheep as well. He scattered the
money changers' coins, knocked their tables over, and said to the pigeon
sellers "Take all of this out of here and stop turning my Father's house
into a market". Some religious leaders asked him "What
sign can you show us to justify what you have done?" Jesus answered "Destroy this sanctuary,
and in three days I will raise it up". The leaders replied
"It has taken 46 years to build this sanctuary".
But Jesus was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when he
rose from the dead, his disciples remembered his words

Yesterday morning I had both 8.30am and 10am Mass at St Paul's Parish, Yau Ma Tei, also last Sat night's 7.30 Mass. In fact I am due to have nearly all the parish Masses, weekends and weekdays, until Oct 17 when parish priest Fr Patrick Sun returns from annual holiday. The faith of the people in the parish is quite inspiring. It's not uncommon for more than 20 people to attend the 7.15am weekday Masses.
God bless Pope Francis on this Feast of St Francis of Assisi!

c.f. Feast
of St
Francis of Assisi
Galatians 6: The only thing I can boast about is the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. It does not matter if a person is circumcised or not; what matters is for each person to become an altogether new creature. Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, who form the Israel of God. I want no more trouble from anybody after this; the marks on my body are those of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you

Francis was a stigmata
Psalm
16: Please protect me, Lord,
I take refuge in you. You are the only
source of all true happiness. I
bless you, Lord, who guide and lead me. Even at night you direct my heart. And
so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad. My body shall rest in safety now and
always. You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence,
at your right hand, happiness for ever.

The Prayer of Saint Francis: Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Wu Chi Man, a 50 year old HK man with a history of mental
illness, is due to be executed in Shenzhen at the end of this month on a charge
of drug trafficking. His aged parents have been told they can say goodbye to him on Oct 28 .... so they are going to Shenzhen tomorrow for quarantine
before a farewell visit to their son. Parents had asked HK government for help
and govt sent info to China, but no success. Media is last resort. Parents have
agreed to media publicity in the next couple of days in a final effort to get HK
govt to try effectively to stop the execution. JESUS, PLEASE HELP WU CHI MAN!

c.f. readings for Sunday 27
Genesis
1-2: God made
the world. God made the sun, the moon and the stars....the whole
universe. God said "Let there be light" and there was light. God
made the earth with all its plants and trees and animals and fish and birds. God
made the first people.....the first man and first woman. God made them in
his own image and said to them "Be
fruitful, multiply and fill the earth." God saw all that he had
made, and all of it was good, very good
Dear God, thank you for making such a beautiful world!

Psalm
128: O blessed are those who love
the Lord and walk in his ways. By the labor of your hands you shall eat. You
will be happy and prosper: your wife like a fruitful vine in the heart of your
house; your children like shoots of the olive, around your table. Indeed thus
shall be blessed the people who love and honor the Lord. May the Lord bless you
from Zion all the days of your life. May
you see your children's children in a happy Jerusalem! On Israel, peace!
Dear Lord, may all married people live to see their children's children

Hebrews
1.1-4: At
various times in the past and in various different ways, God spoke to our
ancestors through the prophets. But in
our own time, he has spoken to us through his Son, through whom he made
everything. He is the radiant light of God the Father's glory. He has sacrificed
himself for sinners. He has taken his place at the right hand of the Father. He
is far greater than any angel

Mark
10.1-12: One day some
religious leaders put Jesus to the test by asking him "Is it against the
Law of Moses for a man to divorce his wife?" Jesus replied "God
created male and female, for the two to become united as one body. What
God has united, no one should separate." The religious leaders then asked
"But why did Moses allow divorce?" Jesus replied "Moses allowed
divorce because people were so hard of heart. But divorce was not God's
plan. So I say to you, anyone who walks
out on their partner and marries someone else, is guilty of adultery."
Jesus, please help married people stay together
Listen

Reflection on the above readings: In many developed countries, the divorce rate is 1/2 or higher. But if a couple goes to church each weekend, the figure drops to about 1/40. And if they also pray together each day/night, the figure drops to about 1/400

c.f. Feast of the Guardian Angels
Exodus
23: The Lord says
this: "I myself will send an angel before
you to guard you as you go and to bring you to the
place that I have prepared. Give him reverence and listen to all that he says.
Offer him no defiance; he would not pardon such a fault, for my name is in him. If
you listen carefully to his voice and do all that I say, I shall be enemy to
your enemies, foe to your foes. My angel will go before you."
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
91: He who dwells in the
shelter of the Most High says to the Lord "you are my refuge in whom I
trust". The
Lord will hide you and protect you. Under his wings you will find refuge. You
will not fear any night time terror, nor any attack during the day. Upon
you no evil shall fall, no plague approach where you dwell. For you has he
commanded his angels to
keep you safe in all your ways.

Acts
12: When
Peter was rescued from prison, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John
Mark where people were praying for him, thinking he was still in prison. A
servant girl opened the door when Peter knocked. She ran inside to tell the
group that Peter was at the door. The group did not believe Peter was
there. One of them said "it
must be his angel".
Eventually they opened the door and Peter described how an angel had rescued him
from prison.
Recording

Matthew 18.1: The disciples came to Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, "I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven."
Reflection on the above readings:
I
recommend this little prayer which I've said each morning and night for 60
years:
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's
love commits me here. Ever this day (night) be at my side, to light and guard,
to rule and guide. Amen

Numbers 26-27: Moses made
a census of all the men in the community.
The total number was 624,730.
Moses also gave a ruling concerning inheritance:
"If a man dies without sons,
his inheritance is to pass to his daughters.
If he has no daughter, the inheritance is to go to his brothers.
If he has no brother, it is to go to his father's brothers.
If his father has no brothers,
it is to go to the member of his clan who is his closest relative".
As Moses neared the end of his life, he asked God for someone to succeed him as leader.
God answered:
"Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit
dwells.
Lay your hands on him, then bring him before Eleazar the priest
and the whole community so that everyone will obey him".

1.26-32:
Refusing to honor the Creator is why people's

reward for their perversion. Since people refused to honor God, they have

"Do whatever he tells you".
There were 6 big containers there, used for

"Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give
it to the man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted
the water, it had turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said
