as
I thought about last Sunday's feast of the Baptism of Jesus, it occurred to me
that this is the only time in the Bible where the Three Persons are said to have
been "physically" present: The Father's voice was heard, the Son was baptised, the
Spirit came down as a dove. My reflection led to the composition of this little
song

Saul continued to try to capture David. David and his band of 600 soldiers
spent more than a year in Philistine territory. They stayed with Achish, king of
Gath.
They fought against the enemies of Achish.
Achish sent David away when the Philistines
made war on Israel.
Saul and his son Jonathan died in this war.

How beautiful are the flowers.
They are more beautiful than King Solomon's clothing. If God cares so much about the life of flowers
won't he care even more about human life? So, don't spend your day worrying about
what you are going to eat and drink and wear. Put God first in your life, God and a right
way of life,
then God will look after your physical needs. Don't waste your energy worrying about
tomorrow.
Live life one day at a time.

with Saul.
But Saul was full of anger and just wanted to kill David. David then became a nomad, roaming from place
to place,
continually pursued by Saul's soldiers. David once had a chance to kill Saul
but David refused to kill him. David said: "Saul is the anointed one of
the Lord.
It is wrong for me to hurt him." Even though Saul hated and hunted David,
David respected and protected Saul.

Luke
3.15-22: John the Baptist
said to the people "I baptize you with water, but someone more powerful
than I will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. I am not fit to undo the strap of
the powerful one's sandals". Jesus
then came and was baptized by John. While Jesus was praying after his
baptism, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit came down on him in the shape of a
dove. And a voice came from heaven "You are my Son, the Beloved. My favor
rests on you".
Jesus, Beloved Son, please baptize me with your Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, please
increase your influence in my life

HK tries to stop Omicron, govt has asked churches to suspend services. Request
has been made by Home Affairs Dept whose chief is one of many top officials
now in quarantine after attending a controversial birthday party that became
infected! Updates
Two days ago went I went hiking to Big Wave Bay near Sai Kung, I saw High
Island Dam .... parts of it dry! Reminding me of this
report at end of last year saying that 2022 would see water shortages in
Guangdong and HK.

from Camay has photo of me with her on Dec 30 at her 50/F office! My first visit
Good news yesterday: The Inland Revenue Department has approved
Section 88 tax exemption for MercyHK! Thank you Jesus!

Yesterday with some staff from MercyHK's shop in Temple Street I
went hiking to Big Wave Bay near Sai Kung .... my first hike for several months.
We spent a couple of hours on
the beach of Big Wave Bay .... one of the most beautiful places in HK.

If you have offended someone, say "Sorry". You must avoid lustful
looks and thoughts.
Looking at someone lustfully is immorality of the heart. Love and pray for
people who are unkind to you.
This is the way to practise the highest level of goodness.

Yesterday morning I visited prisoners in the custodial ward of nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In the afternoon and early evening I attended our weekly gatherings for drug addicts .... sad to learn that one drug addict died two days ago.

1 Samuel 17:
The Philistine and Israelite armies prepared
for battle.
The Philistines were on one hill, the Israelites on an opposite hill,
with a valley between them. The Philistines produced a giant warrior,
Goliath,
who challenged the Israelites to find one man to fight him.
Goliath said: "If I win, you become our slaves;
if I am killed, we will become your slaves." For many weeks Goliath issued his
challenge,
but no Israelite soldier was brave enough to fight Goliath. Then David visited the army camp and heard
Goliath's words.
He offered to fight Goliath. Some people made fun of David,
but David knew he would be helped by the Lord. David took 5 smooth stones from the river bed
and with his sling in his hand he went to fight Goliath. When Goliath saw the young boy David,
Goliath insulted and ridiculed him. But David took out one of his stones
and slung it at Goliath. The stone hit Goliath on the forehead
and he dropped to the ground. David then used Goliath's sword to kill him
and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion
was dead,
they fled in fear, chased by the Israelites who defeated them. Saul put David in charge of his army
and David had many victories. David and Saul's son Jonathan became good
friends. Dear God, please help me
just as you helped David

Yesterday I spent several hours at Hei
Ling Chau men's Addiction Treatment Centre .... and personally wished several
hundred residents (including a few as young as 15) a Happy New Year. One elderly
man is due to be released today .... and I hope to see him soon at the weekly
addicts meeting at the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple Street.
Today is the 240th birthday of Robert
Morrison, whose love for China earned him the title "The Protestant
Matteo Ricci". Many
places in HK are named in his honour

Reflection: Why did Jesus heal people? Couldn't he have just preached without healing people? One answer is his name "Jesus" which means "God saves" or can mean "God heals". He lived up to his name!

Treatment Centre yesterday are old friends .... MercyHK had helped them for a
while last year with accommodation at the Alhambra Building in Yau Ma Tei! (...
and will help them again in the future if they can stay off drugs)

Samuel 13-15: Not long after he became king, Saul began
doing things
that caused Samuel to stop supporting him. Samuel clearly told Saul what the Lord wanted
Saul to do,
but Saul insisted on doing things his own way. Saul seemed more concerned about his own
popularity
than about being obedient to the Lord. This displeased the Lord, and he rejected Saul.
Dear God, please help us
not to disobey you.

it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs. What marvels the Lord worked for
us.
Indeed we were glad. Those who are sowing in tears
will sing when they reap. They go out, full of tears, carrying seed for
the sowing.
They come back, full of song, carrying their sheaves.

God the Father has let us know his sacred
plan:
the whole show, everything in heaven and everything in earth,
is one big orchestra with Christ as the conductor. We Jews are special instruments in the
orchestra.
We were chosen to put our hope in Christ before he came. And you non-Jews are also on the stage,
now that you have believed the truth of the Good News. All of us have been stamped with the Holy
Spirit.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thank you for the
gift of life
and the gift of faith. Help me play well!

After he was baptized, Jesus spent about 40 days praying and fasting in the
desert.
During this time, he was tempted by Satan. "If you are the Son of God,
change some stones into bread" said Satan. Jesus replied "Human life needs more than
bread.
Life needs God's message". Satan then took Jesus to a high place
and said
"Throw yourself down, since the angels will protect you". Jesus replied
"Presumption is a sin". Then Satan took Jesus to a high mountain
and showed him all the nations of the world. "Worship me and I will give you all these
nations" said Satan. Jesus replied
"Go away, Satan! Only God is to be worshipped". The devil then went away.

Satan and from evil
