Tues March 8
On this International Women's Day I can say than MercyHK in Jordan is providing emergency accommodation for about 50 Covid domestic helpers. Yesterday 7 positive cases were transferred to the new govt quarantine centre at Ching Yi ... and 7 new positive cases came to our centres. My updated file of media articles is here. Using Zoom, Fr Jun O.M.I. and HELP are working with the govt to co-ordinate the transfers. Jun and HELP have also been providing counselling to all cases since this work began on February 18. And again I ask a blessing on the many kind people who have helped MercyHK in this work by spiritual, material and financial assistance

Thessalonians 4.13-18: You asked us about the situation of people who
have died.
Do not mourn in an unhealthy way for them,
like people who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and
that it will be the same for everyone who dies in God's friendship: God
will give them life with Jesus. They will live in God's House for ever.
With thoughts such as these you should comfort one another in times of
mourning
Jesus, please increase my faith in the life to

Matthew
19.27-29: On behalf of all the disciples, Peter asked
Jesus
"What about us? We have left everything to follow you." Jesus replied "You will be
leaders in the church on earth. Also, anyone who has left home, family
or country for the sake of my name,
will receive a 100-fold blessing in this life,
and will also receive eternal life in Heaven."
Jesus, please bless all Gospel

19.16-26: A young man asked Jesus

commandments.
What else do I need to do?" Jesus said "If you want to do something
really special with your life, go and sell all your possessions, give the
money to the poor,
then come and follow me as one of my disciples". When the young man heard these words he went
away sad,
because he was very rich.

Examiner report on homeless Covid domestic workers being helped by
MercyHK *** Last night
MercyHK was providing emergency accommodation for 44 homeless Covid domestic
helpers, of whom 7 are positive cases. Many kind people are helping us,
including a team from the NGO Christian
Action. CA is also co-ordinating a new program whereby MercyHK will sponsor
a free rice meal each day for needy asylum seekers whose
govt food vouchers are now almost useless because of empty supermarket shelves.
Last week was something very special: MercyHK opened 3 new centres in a matter
of days in response to the urgent situation of homelessness. When the present
crisis is over, maybe the new centres can be used by poor people or as hostels
for domestic workers. *** "Firing
Covid domestic helpers is not tolerated by HK govt" (??? supposing a
helper wanted to take an employer to court ... the case could take months if not
years to process ... during such time would the helper be allowed by Immigration
to stay in HK? .... and if she was allowed to stay & presumably not allowed
to work, how would she support herself???) *** There is no truth in the
rumour that I have Covid .... thank you Jesus!

Deuteronomy
26: Moses'
teaching: "When you enter the land the Lord your God is
giving you, you must take the first-fruits of your produce to the priest then in
office and say 'Today I declare to the Lord my God that I have come to the land
the Lord swore to our fathers he would give us.'
After the priest receives your offering, you must declare: 'My father was a
wandering Aramaean. He went down to Egypt to find refuge there, few in number.
But then he became a nation, great and strong. The Egyptians ill-treated us,
they gave us no peace and inflicted harsh slavery on us. But we called on the
Lord our God who heard our voice and saw our misery, toil and oppression. The
Lord our God then brought us out of Egypt with mighty hand and outstretched arm,
with signs and wonders. He brought us here and gave us this land, a land where
milk and honey flow. So I now bring the
first-fruits of my produce that you, Lord, have given me'. You are then
to share these gifts with your household
and with the Levite and stranger who live among you."
Dear Lord, help me to show gratitude for all your gifts, by sharing
what I have with those less fortunate than I

Psalm
91: He who dwells in the shelter
of the Most High says to the Lord "you are my refuge in whom I trust".
The Lord will hide you and protect you. Under his wings you will find refuge.
You will not fear any night time terror, nor any attack during the day. Upon you
no evil shall fall, no plague approach where you dwell. For
you has he commanded his angels to keep you safe in all your ways.
Dear God, thank you for your protection day and night

Romans
10-11: If
your lips confess that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. How wonderful is God!
How great his wisdom and knowledge. What finite creature could ever understand
the mind of our infinite Creator? All
that exists comes from him. To him be glory for ever!
Jesus, Father, Spirit - three persons, one God - to you be glory for ever!

Luke
4.1-13: Filled with the
Holy Spirit, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. For 40 days he ate
nothing, and was tempted by the Devil. The Devil said "If you are the Son
of God, turn a stone into bread". Jesus replied "Scripture says we do
not live on bread alone". The Devil took him to a high place and showed him
all the kingdoms of the world. "Worship me and they will all be yours"
he said. Jesus replied "Scripture
says we must worship only God". Then the Devil took him to the top
of the Temple in Jerusalem and said "If you are the Son of God, throw
yourself down and let the angels protect you". Jesus
replied "Scripture says we must not put the Lord our God to the test".
The Devil then left him

Sat March 5
Yesterday afternoon the govt arranged for 23 homeless Covid
domestic workers (21 of them positive) to be shifted from our MercyHK centres in
Jordan to govt quarantine facilities. But if the same thing happens this time as
happened a week ago when a previous group went to the govt facilities, they will
be released when negative and told "you can go home now" ....but they
don't have homes, they are homeless ... which means they will be back in Jordan
in a few days! And yesterday one new negative and 4 new positive women came, two
of them very late last night .... usual sad stories (...arbitrarily terminated
when showing signs of Covid ....unable to get flight when tested positive at
airport etc). 60 (previous) night - 23 + 5 = 42 in our care last night.

Last night four negative cases moved into a new centre we have started - MercyHK
Hostel (B), and yesterday we also started renting a further new centre - MercyHK
Hostel (C). B & C are in Shanghai Street. The original MercyHK Hostel is now
A!
To provide space for the storage of luggage of our guests (many became homeless at the airport) and for the storage of items for the centres, we have temporarily changed our MercyHK second hand shop at 191 Temple Street into a multi-purpose area for storage and also office space for our social workers (especially Lucia Leung who is doing an amazing job co-ordinating the project of looking after so many places and people).
Not forgetting the many kind people who have made donations over the past two weeks to support our work. Eddie Chan our Director says he has written around 300 receipts in the past week. To be honest, our problem now is not finance but accommodation .... ordinary HK people have fully booked out all hotels and guest houses in order to avoid Covid homes.

Ash Wednesday
(.. no meat ... )
Last night MercyHK in Jordan was providing emergency
accommodation for 49 homeless Covid domestic helpers, of whom 20 are positive.
Because our Dr Jesus Centre (9 positive cases) and MercyHK
Hostel (A) (11 positive cases) are almost full, we have now rented another unit
(in nearby Shanghai Street) to be known as MercyHK Hostel (B) to take 10 more
positive cases. If/when (A) and (B) are no longer needed for Covid cases, they
can be used for other needy people.
All over HK shops and businesses have closed, because staff have Covid. The MTR
is running fewer trains because
so many staff have Covid. The health system has imploded. Most Covid cases
are self-medicating at home. Hotels and guest houses are fully occupied as
people move out of Covid homes. The
real number of fifth wave Covid cases is said to be 1.7 million out
of total population of 7.4 million! (that's 23%)
A lot of people are going to need a lot of help in the coming months. LORD,
HAVE MERCY!

Joel
1-4: My
country has been invaded. Joy has disappeared from the land. Priests, put on
sackcloth and lament. Proclaim
a fast to pray for our nation. Turn to the Lord your God again, for he is
all tenderness and compassion. Call out to the Lord for help. "Spare your
people, Lord!" The Lord replies: "I will save and rescue you. I will
pour out my spirit on all peoples. Every one will prophesy and see visions. You
will learn that I am the Lord your God. Jerusalem will be a holy place."

51: Have

truly I know them. What is evil in your sight I have done. But in my defence
please don't forget that sinfulness is part of the human condition, part of our
DNA. A pure heart create for me, O God. Put a steadfast spirit within me. Give
me again the joy of your help. With a spirit of fervor sustain me.

Matthew
6.1-15: Jesus
said to the crowds: When
you do a good deed, do it for its own sake, not just to get people to
praise you. When you pray, love to pray in private in your heart. Don't be
looking for people to notice and praise you. When
you pray, there's no need to rave on and on. God is not deaf. Prayer is
not a lawyer arguing a case. Prayer is a child speaking with simple trust like
this: Our Father in heaven, may everyone love and honor you. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as in heaven. Thank you for enough food for today.
Forgive us as we forgive others. Save us in time of trial. Protect us from evil.
Jesus, help me remember that each time I pray "The Our Father", you
are praying with me. "Your Father = my Father = our Father"
