Tues June 14
I spent most of yesterday morning editing a revised edition of the Simple Bible: New Testament which I hope to have at the printers in the next couple of weeks.
In the afternon I attended an O.M.I. meeting at Notre Dame College in Kowloon City .... where we especially prayed for Pope Francis after hearing that illness has caused him to postpone his July trip to Africa ....and maybe will cause him to resign at the end of August

Proverbs
1: If you listen to these sayings, you
will acquire wisdom.
These sayings will help you develop
virtue, justice and fairness. Be careful of bad people who try to
mislead you.
A net is spread in vain if the bird is watching. Wisdom calls aloud in the streets.
She delivers her message at the city gates: "How much longer will you prefer
ignorance to knowledge?
The complacency of fools works their own ruin. But whoever listens to me will live
in safety.
Whoever listens to me will choose good and avoid evil."
Dear God, please give
us more wisdom
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
127: If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders
labor. If the Lord does not watch over the city,
in vain does the watchman keep vigil. Success comes not from earlier rising or from
going later to rest,
but from the Lord's blessing. Success is from the Lord
who blesses the womb of his beloved while she sleeps. Truly, children are a gift from the Lord,
a blessing, the fruit of the womb.
Lord, many people these days
don't want children. Please help such people understand that children are
a blessing

Peter 2.11-15:
Keep yourselves free from selfish passions
that attack the soul.
Behave honorably among non-Christians, even if they treat you badly. For the sake of the Lord, accept the authority
of every social institution. God wants you to be good citizens
Jesus, bless government officials
in our country.
Give them good health, courage and wisdom

Mark
9.33-35:
One day Jesus heard his disciples arguing about which one of them was the most important.
So he said to them "If you want to be No.
1, you must become No. 1,000 and a servant of everyone else"
Jesus, give the
world leaders who care more about their people than about
themselves

Reflection: Christians should be the best citizens .... and government officials should be servants of the people!

Job
40-42: Job said to God " My words have been
frivolous. I will not say anything else." God then reminded Job how God was creator of
everything, including amazing animals like the hippo and crocodile. Job then said to God "I know you are
all-powerful. I have been speaking about things I don't fully
understand.
I retract all I have said and in dust and ashes I repent." God then praised Job for his fidelity.
God restored Job to good health.
God restored Job's possessions, more than he had before:
10 more children and thousands of animals.
Job lived to be 140 years old and died full of peace.
Dear God, you never really
answered Job's questions
about the mystery of evil and suffering .... but I know your Son Jesus gave us the answers
My

Psalm
126: When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage,
it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs. What marvels the Lord worked for us.
Indeed we were glad. Those who are sowing in tears
will sing when they reap. They go out, full of tears, carrying seed for
the sowing.
They come back, full of song, carrying their sheaves.
Dear God, please bless all
people who are sorrowful as they work

rejected by men, but chosen by God. Stay close to him, so that you
too may be living stones in the spiritual house of God's church. You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a
consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing the praises of God who
called you out of darkness into his wonderful light
Jesus, you are the foundation stone of my
life.
May I build my life on your teaching, your values, your example

Mark
9.14-29: A man brought his son to Jesus and pleaded:
"Master, there is a spirit of dumbness in
my son. When it takes hold of him, it throws him to the ground, and he
foams at the mouth and goes rigid". They brought the boy. As soon as the spirit
saw Jesus, it threw the boy into convulsions. Jesus asked the father "How long has this
been happening?"
He replied "From childhood....please help us!" Jesus said "Everything is possible if you
have faith".
The father cried out "Please increase my faith!" Jesus rebuked the evil spirit: "Deaf and
dumb spirit, I command you: come out of him and never enter him again".
The spirit came out, but the boy seemed to
have died. Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up. Jesus' disciples asked "Why were we
unable to expel that spirit?"
Jesus replied "Only prayer can drive out that kind of spirit"
Jesus, please help me pray

so that I can help other people more

Psalm
8: How
great is your name, O Lord our God, through all the earth. When I see the
heavens, the work of your hands, the moon and stars which you have arranged,
then I stop and think: what are we insignificant humans that you should care
about us? Yet you have
put us in charge of the world. Everything is subject to our control.

Romans
5.1-5: By faith and
through Jesus we
can live in the friendship of God (the
Father). We look forward to heaven and an end to all suffering. In the
meantime our suffering teaches us patience. Patience produces perseverance.
Perseverance produces hope. This hope is not imaginary. It's real, since the
love of God has
been poured into our hearts by the Holy
Spirit who has been given to us
Jesus, through your Holy Spirit, please give me more hope

John
16.7-33: Jesus said to his disciples
at the meal "I will leave you soon. After I go, I
will send the New Friend to you. The New Friend will teach you all about
right and wrong. The New Friend will help you know the truth about everything.
You are sad now because I am leaving you. But I will see you again, and your
hearts will be full of joy. No one will be able to take that joy from you. I
have told you all these things so that you may find peace in me. In the world
you will have trouble, but be brave: I have conquered the world.

Job
32-39: Job's three friends had no more to say.
But a young man named Elihu, decided to join the conversation. He said to Job "How can you claim to be
innocent and yet say that God is persecuting you without cause?" As Elihu continued his speech,
suddenly the voice of God himself was
heard. God asked Job "Have you ever given orders
to the morning for day to begin? Have you ever arranged the stars in the sky?
Was it you who gave all the animals their
various powers?
Who do you think you are?"

Acts 11.19-26 (for
Feast of St Barnabas): Some
believers went to Antioch in Syria where they preached the Good News of the Lord
Jesus to non-Jewish people. Many non-Jewish people became believers. Barnabas,
a good man filled with the Holy Spirit, was sent to Antioch in Syria to
encourage the new believers to remain faithful to the Lord. Barnabas brought
Paul from Tarsus to Antioch. They stayed in Antioch one year, instructing a
large number of people. It was at Antioch that the believers were first called
"Christians"

Mark
9.1-8: One day Jesus took his disciples Peter, James and John
up a high mountain.
On the mountain Jesus' whole appearance changed.
His face shone like the sun. His clothes were as white as snow. Moses and Elijah appeared
and spoke with him. Peter said to Jesus "Lord, how good it is for
us to be here!" Then a bright cloud covered them with its
shadow.
From the cloud came a voice:
"This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to
him." The disciples bowed to the ground.
When they got up, they saw only Jesus in his normal appearance.
Jesus, how good it is to spend time with you

Job 25-31: Bildad then reminded Job that God's power is
beyond human understanding. No one should question God's actions. Job replied:
"I swear by God who denies me justice that as long as I have breath,
I will live a life of innocence. I remember how I have always lived as a friend
of God:
how I helped the poor, the orphan, the dying, the widow, the blind, the
lame. I remember how I made a pact with my eyes
not to linger on any other woman but my wife.
I remember how I have never put my trust in riches or fame.
I have always trusted only in the Lord. Yet now people laugh at me and make fun of me.
They avoid me and even spit on me. When will God answer me?"

124:
"If the Lord had not been on our

this is Israel's song. If the Lord had not been on our side

when they were angry with us. Blessed be the Lord who did not let us become
a prey for their teeth. Our life, like a bird, has escaped

Be good and holy. Let your love for each other be real and from

8.27-38: One day Jesus asked his disciples
"Who do people say I am?" The disciples replied
"Some say you are one of the famous prophets".
Jesus then asked them "And who do you say I am?" Peter answered "You are
the Christ". Jesus then explained to them
how he must go to Jerusalem to suffer, die and rise from the dead. He also said
"If you want to be my disciple, you must deny yourself,
take up your own cross, and follow me. Selfishness will ruin your life.
Self-sacrificing will bless your life. What use is it to have everything in this
world
yet miss out on Heaven?"

Job 22-24:
Eliphaz then said that God was punishing Job

God sees every step I take.

123: To you have I lifted up my eyes,

Mark
8.22-26: In the village of Bethsaida, a blind man was
brought to Jesus.
His friends begged Jesus to touch him. Jesus took the man by the hand and led him
outside the town.
Jesus put spittle on the man's eyes
and placed his hands on the man's eyes. "Can you see anything?" asked Jesus.
The man was starting to see and replied "I can see people. They look
like trees, but they are walking about". Jesus then placed his hands on the man's eyes
again, and he saw clearly. He was healed and could see everything clearly.
Jesus, heal my friend

Mark
7.24-30:
Jesus went to the district of Tyre.
A foreign woman fell at his feet and begged him to expel a devil from her
daughter. Jesus said "The children (= Jews)
should be fed first. It's not right to give the children's food to the
house dogs (= foreigners)". She replied "Ah yes, Sir, but the house

Before going to the Dr Jesus Centre around 7.30 last Sunday
morning, I went to a nearby rubbish bin to deposit some overnight items ....and
passed A-Ming sitting outside 7-11, as in Dec 14 photo here.
So I bought him a cup of coffee and something to eat at 7-11. Then on Sunday
night, when I left the Dr Jesus Centre around 9.30 and went to same rubbish bin
for an evening deposit, I saw another street man .... and got him something at
7-11. My Sunday was 7-11 book-ended!
