Yesterday morning a group of staff and students from Precious Blood Secondary School came to the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple Street for a gathering at which MercyHK social workers Lucia, Simon and Raymond outlined their care for various groups of needy people. The visitors also checked out one of our nearby hostels for homeless domestic workers, our social centre and the canteen where around 100 needy people receive a free meal each day sponsored by MercyHK

Sirach
1-3: All wisdom comes from God.
Love for God is the source of wisdom. If you desire wisdom, keep the Lord's
commandments,
in private as well as in public. Keep the commandment to honor your
parents.
Respect for your father will atone for your sins.
Honor for your mother will gain you blessings. Support your father in his old age.
Even if his mind should fail, show him kindness.
Do not despise him in your health and strength. Be gentle in the way you live your life.
The greater you are, the more humbly you should behave.
Dear
God, please help me always respect and honor my parents

Psalm
28: To you, O Lord, I call, my rock, hear me.
If you do not heed, I shall become like people in the grave. Lord, you are my strength and my
shield.
In you my heart trusts. Thank you, Lord, for so often hearing my
prayer.
I will always thank and praise you. You are the strength of your people Israel.
Save your people. Be our shepherd and carry us for ever.
Lord, please help people who
are in big danger today

Revelation
12.1-6:
A great sign appeared in heaven:
a woman, dressed in the sun, standing on the moon,
crowned with 12 stars. She was giving birth to a
child,
and she cried out in the pain of childbirth. Then a second sign appeared:
a huge red dragon, which wanted to eat the child. The
woman gave birth to a son, the ruler of
all nations. The
son was taken straight up to heaven, to God on his throne.
The woman escaped to safety in the desert,
to a place prepared for her by God

Luke
2.15-20:
After the angels went away, the shepherds
said to one another
"Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about".
So they quickly went and found Mary and
Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. People who heard the shepherds
talk about the angels were amazed. As for Mary, she treasured every moment of
what had happened
and pondered the whole event in her heart. The shepherds went back to their fields
glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen
Jesus we adore you, Jesus we adore you, Jesus we
adore you, Christ the Lord

Wisdom
10-19: Wisdom has been present in the world since
the beginning of time.
Wisdom has always been a close friend of good people. Wise people see God in the beauty of
creation.
Foolish people are blind to God's presence in creation. Wise people ponder God's goodness and
kindness.
Wise people try to be good and kind to other people.
Lord, please help me see and
imitate your goodness and kindness

27: The Lord is my light and my
help, whom shall
I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life, before whom shall I shrink? Though
an army encamp against me, even then would I trust. There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this
I long:
to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. It is your face, O Lord, that I seek. Hide not
your face.
I am sure I will see your goodness in the land of the living. Hope in the Lord, hold firm and take heart.
Hope in the Lord!
Lord, you are my light and my
help.
I will always praise you.

Revelation
8.1 - 11.18: I saw how punishment
is coming for all evil
doers on the earth. I heard voices shouting: "The kingdom of
the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and his Christ. He will reign
for ever and ever". The 24 elders worshipped God saying:
"We give thanks to you, Almighty Lord God.
The time has come for everyone to be judged.
The time has come for good people to be rewarded
and bad people to be punished"
Jesus, please help bad people stop being bad

Luke
2.9-14: Not far from where Mary had her baby, there
were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their
sheep during the night. An angel appeared to them and the glory of the
Lord shone around them. The angel said "Do not be afraid. I
bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by everyone. Today in the town of David, a savior has been
born to you. He is Christ the Lord. Look for a baby wrapped in swaddling
clothes and lying in a manger". Suddenly with the angel there were many other angels, praising God and singing "Glory to God in
heaven, and peace to people on earth"
"O come let us adore him, O come let us
adore him, O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord"

Recently some new Covid positive cases have been referred
to MercyHK hostels for homeless domestic workers. One came two nights ago and
yesterday was transferred to a government quarantine centre. Another one came
last night and has been registered with the government for similar transfer.
Seems Omicron is far from going away. For a definition of "close
contact" we are following the advice of nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital: If
I am wearing a mask and am with a Covid case wearing a mask, then I become a
"close contact" after two hours of being with the case; if neither of
us is wearing a mask, I become a "close contact" after being with the
case for 15 minutes.

Ecclesiastes
1-2: Everything
is temporary and passing. What's the use of all our toil? Our life is
over in a few days. What's the use of all our toil? The same fate awaits both
wise person and fool. Death is always just around the corner.
Dear God, please help me understand the meaning of life. Help me understand
that there is life in heaven after life on earth
My
recording of this reading
Psalm
90: O Lord you have been our refuge from
one generation to the next. Before the
earth or the world existed, you are God, without beginning or end. For you, a
thousand years are like yesterday, come and gone so quickly. We
humans have a short life, our life is over like a sigh. Our span is 70 years, or
80 for those who are strong. Make us
know the shortness of our life, that we may gain wisdom of heart. In the
morning, fill us with your love. Give success to the work of our hands.
Lord, help us realize the shortness of our life, that we may live our lives
more wisely
Recording

Colossians
3.1-2: Since you have been brought
back to true life with Christ, focus on heaven, where Christ is, sitting at the
Father's right hand. Let your thoughts
be more on heavenly things, less on the things that are on earth.
Jesus, please help me think more often about heaven.....since that's where I
hope to spend all eternity! Help me understand how this present world is just a
temporary arrangement
Recording

Luke
12.15-21: Jesus told the people this
story: There was a rich man who, having had a good harvest from his land,
thought to himself "What am I to do? I don't have enough room to store my
crops". Then he said to himself "This is what I will do: I will
pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain in them, and I
will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many
years to come; take things easy, eat, drink, and have a good time". But
God said to him "Fool! This very
night your earthly life will come to an end. And all your possessions,
who will get them?" So it is when people store up treasure for themselves, instead
of making themselves rich in the sight of God
Jesus, please help me to be satisfied with what I have, and not to be
greedy

Wisdom
8-9: From my youth I sought and loved Wisdom.
Wisdom teaches us temperance, prudence, justice and fortitude. I prayed for Wisdom like this:
"God of our ancestors and Lord of mercy,
in Wisdom you made all things. Grant me Wisdom who was with you when you made
the world.
May she teach me what is right,
so that I may be a good ruler.
Lord, please give me Wisdom, as

Forgive my sins and help me walk in your truth.

Revelation
7.9-17: I saw a huge number, impossible to count, of
people from every nation, race, and language. They were standing in front of the throne,
with palms in their hands.
They shouted: "Victory to our God,
who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb". One of the elders told me who these people
are:
"These are the people who have been through the great persecution.
They now serve God day and night in his sanctuary. The Lamb is their
Shepherd. He leads them to springs of living water. God has wiped away all
tears from their eyes"

2.1-8: The Emperor of Rome ordered that a census be
taken of the whole
Empire. Every man had to go to his home town to be registered. So Joseph set out from Nazareth in Galilee and
traveled to Judea,
to the town of David called Bethlehem, with his pregnant wife Mary. While they were in Bethlehem, the time came
for Mary to have her child. She gave birth to a son. She wrapped him in

Feast of Sts Martha, Mary & Lazarus
Luke
10.38-42: Jesus
came to a village, and a
woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a
sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord's feet and listened to him
speaking. Now Martha who was distracted with all the serving said, "Lord,
do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself?
Please tell her to help me." But the Lord answered: "Martha,
Martha," he said "you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few
are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part; it is
not to be taken from her."
Recording
John
11.1-44: Lazarus
and his sisters Mary and Martha lived in the village of
Bethany. When Lazarus became very sick, the sisters sent a message to Jesus
"Lord, your dear friend is very sick". By the time Jesus and his
disciples arrived in Bethany, Lazarus was dead and buried for 4 days. Martha
said to Jesus "If you had been here, my brother would not have died".
Jesus replied "I am the resurrection and the life. If anyone believes in
me, he will have life after death". Jesus said to Mary and Martha
"Where have you put him?" Jesus cried as he went to the tomb.
The tomb was a cave with a stone at the entrance. Jesus said "Take the
stone away". Then he called out in a loud voice "Lazarus, come
out!" The dead man came out, wrapped in burial clothes. Jesus said
"Unwrap him and let him go free".
Jesus, you are the Resurrection and the Life. Please give eternal life to my
friend (....name...) who died recently
Recording

John
12.1-8: Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to
Bethany,
for a dinner at the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha.
Mary put expensive ointment on Jesus' feet.
Then she wiped his feet with her hair. Judas Iscariot, the disciple who was going to
betray Jesus, said "Why wasn't this ointment sold and the money given
to the poor?" He said this not because he cared about the
poor, but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the moneybag and would
steal from it. Jesus replied "Leave her alone. She is
anticipating and honoring my burial. Besides, the poor will always be with
you. But I will soon be gone"
Jesus, please help people in charge of money
not to steal
Listen

John 12.9-11: When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus[ was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

Wisdom 6-7:
Listen, rulers of the nations, govern with
justice,
for you will be judged by the Lord. Rulers, if you want to govern successfully,
seek Wisdom and she will guide your decisions. A wise ruler is a blessing for his people.
The more wise people there are, the better our world will be. When I, Solomon, became a ruler,
I prayed for Wisdom. I prayed, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
In Wisdom's company, all good things came to me.

Psalm
23: The Lord is my
shepherd, there is nothing I
shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He guides me along the right path. He is true
to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff; with these you give me
comfort. You have prepared a banquet for me in the
sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil. My cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me

Revelation
5.11-14: I heard the sound of an immense number of
angels gathered around God's throne. There were 10,000 times 10,000 of
them, shouting:
"The Lamb that was sacrificed is worthy to be given power,
riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessing". I heard all living things in creation -
angels, people, animals - crying out: "To the One sitting on the
throne and to the Lamb, be all praise, honor, glory and power for ever and
ever"
"Thou are worthy, Thou art worthy, Thou
are worthy O Lord,

And you, little child, you shall be called a prophet of the Most High. You

Wisdom 3-5: When good people die, they are in God's
hands.
Even if they died a tragic death, they are at peace. A long life is not what makes a person
honorable.
Honor is due to anyone of any age who is wise and understanding. On the other hand, arrogance and misuse of
wealth
bring dishonor, in this life and in the next. Our life is short. We must live it wisely and
well.
Dear Lord, please help me to
live my life wisely and not foolishly
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
22: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
I call to you for help, but day and night you give no reply. I am a worm and not a man.
Everyone who sees me makes fun of me. They taunt me: "He trusted in the
Lord, why doesn't the Lord help him?" Like water I am poured out, my bones no longer
connected.
My throat is parched, my tongue sticks to my jaws. Many evil people attack me.
They make holes in my hands and my feet.
They await my death. They divide my clothing among them,
they throw a dice for my robe. Yet I know Lord, that you are good and
holy.
I know how you heard the cries of our ancestors and you helped them. It was you who took me from the womb
and entrusted me to my mother's breast.
To you I was committed from my birth,
from my mother's womb you have been my God. Lord, I trust in you even now.
I trust you will not scorn my prayer. Even now I praise you as my Creator.
May all the nations know and worship you.
Lord, please help people who
