With Fr Jun I spent yesterday at Lo Wu women's prison. Same issue
as at Lai Chi Kok men's prison last week: some sections in quarantine because of
Covid cases (... so some visits not possible). Covid in prisons a big
concern.
Yesterday a day of frustrations: leaking roof at
Dr Jesus Centre in early morning, having to wear face shield at prison, Covid
problem at prison, metro problem on way home (see
below), computer problems last night. Praise you Jesus for problems!!!

Luke ("Luke"/"Acts")
Luke
1: Dear
Friend of God, there are already many reports written about Jesus. These reports
come from people who were the earliest eyewitnesses and ministers of the Good
News. After checking the whole story, I also have decided to write a report, so
that you may see for yourself the truth and accuracy of the Good News
Jesus, help me understand your Good News

Acts
1: Dear Friend of God, in
my first book (the Gospel of Luke)
I wrote about everything Jesus did until the day he was taken up to heaven. For
40 days after his death, he appeared to his apostles many times, and taught them
about the kingdom of God. He told them to stay in Jerusalem and wait for what
the Father had promised: "You will soon be baptized with the Holy
Spirit"
Jesus, please baptize me with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, increase your
influence in my life

A very long but happy day yesterday at the Dr Jesus Centre in Jordan: the usual Sunday Mass and lunch for domestic helpers who stay at MercyHK hostels, then a special 5pm gathering for drug addicts with guest speaker Pastor Calvin Li (himself a former addict and now a prison chaplain!). Parts of both gatherings were attended by a media team from W5 (Canada's "Sixty Minutes").

16-17: The Lord will bring back Israel's exiles,
back to the land he gave to our ancestors. Lord, my strength, my stronghold,
all the nations will come to you

Psalms
114,115: When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob's descendents from an alien people, Judah became the Lord's temple,
Israel became his kingdom. Descendents of Israel, trust in the Lord.

Acts
16.25-37: Late that night in prison, Paul and Silas were
praying and singing God's praises, while the other prisoners listened to
them. Suddenly there was an earthquake that shook
the prison.
All the doors opened, and the chains fell from all the prisoners. The main jailer drew his sword and was about
to kill himself,
thinking the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted to him "Don't hurt
yourself. We are all still here". Trembling, the jailer threw himself at the
feet of Paul and Silas. Then he escorted them out of the prison asking
"What must I do to be saved?" They said "Become a believer in the
Lord Jesus, and both you and your household will be saved". They explained the word of God to him and his
family. He washed their wounds and then they "washed his wounds"
by baptizing him and all his household. They had a meal together in the
jailer's home, to celebrate the family's conversion to belief in God
Jesus, let more people know the joy of
conversion

Luke 15.11-24: Jesus told this story: a man had two sons. The younger said to his father "Father, give me the share of the estate that would come to me". So the father divided his property between them. A few days later, the younger son left for a distant land where he wasted his money in wild living.
When he had used all his money, that country had a severe famine, and he began to feel the pinch, so he got a job on a farm feeding pigs. He would willingly have eaten the pigs' food, but no one offered him anything. Then he came to his senses and said "How many of my father's paid servants have more food than they want, and I am dying of hunger I will leave this place and go to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son. Treat me as one of your paid servants."
So he left the place and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him tenderly. Then the son said "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son".
But the father said to his servants "Quick! Bring out the best robe
and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kill it. We are going to
have a feast, a celebration, because this son of mine was dead and has
come back to life. He was lost and is found."
Jesus, please help me understand how much you love me,
no matter what mistakes I make

Exodus
17: In
another place the Israelites were attacked by the Amalekites. Moses prayed while
Joshua led the people in battle. As long
as Moses kept his arms raised up in prayer, the Israelites were winning.
But when Moses let his arms down, the Amalekites started winning. So Aaron and
Hur got Moses to sit on a rock and they supported his hands until sunset.
Joshua and the people then won the battle.
Dear God, please help us understand the power of prayer
My recording of this reading

Psalms
120, 121: I call to the Lord in the
hour of my distress: "Lord save me from people who speak with lying
lips". Long enough have I been dwelling with those who hate peace. I am for
peace, but they are for fighting. I lift up my eyes to the mountains. From where
shall come my help? My help shall come
from the Lord who made heaven and earth. The Lord is our guard and our
shade. Day and night we shall not be afraid. The Lord will guard our going and
coming both now and forever.
Lord, please protect us from danger, day and night

Timothy 3.12-16: Anyone who tries to
live a sincere Christian life will be persecuted. Stay faithful to what you have
been taught and know to be true. Remember who your teachers were, and how, ever
since you were a child, you have known the Scriptures. From the
Scriptures you can learn the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in
Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and can be used for teaching, for
refuting error, for guiding people's lives and teaching them to be holy
Jesus, please give all Christians, especially pastors, a passion for the
Scriptures

Luke
18.1-7: Jesus told his disciples a
story about the need to pray continually and never lose heart: There was
a judge who had neither fear of God nor respect for people. In the same town
there was a widow who kept asking the judge for justice against someone who had
wronged her. For a long time the judge refused to help her, but at last he said
to himself "I must give this widow her rights or she will pester me to
death". Even more so God will see that justice is done for those who cry
out to him for help day and night, even if he delays to help them
Jesus, please give me the perseverance to pray each day

113: Praise, O friends of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord. May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore. From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord. Who is like the Lord our God,

Acts
16.16-24: One day we met a slave girl who made a
lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. The girl followed us each
day shouting "These are the servants of God". Paul said to the spirit possessing
her "I order you, in the name of Jesus Christ, to leave her".
The spirit immediately left her, but her owners were angry that she could
no longer tell fortunes. The owners seized Paul and Silas and dragged
them to court, saying to the magistrate "These people are causing a
disturbance in our city". A crowd supported the owners in calling for
their punishment. They were given many lashes and put into prison with their feet in irons

Jeremiah 12-14: Lord, you are in our midst, we are called by your name.
Please give us help and strength in this time of trouble. Wherever I go I see sadness and

Jesus took the man, healed him, and sent him away.
Then Jesus said to the leaders "Which of you here, if his son falls into a

Jeremiah 7:
At the gate of the Temple in Jerusalem,
Jeremiah proclaimed the word of the Lord: "You people of Judah who come here to worship,
amend your behavior and actions,
and then I, the Lord, will meet you here in this Temple. Do not exploit the stranger, the orphan and the
widow.
Do not follow alien gods, do not break the Commandments. If you don't care about bad behavior
and yet keep on coming to my Temple for worship,
your worship is useless
and you are turning this Temple into a robbers' den. This nation refuses to listen to the Lord.
Sincerity has vanished since worship and behavior are not related."

trip when the situation became dangerous. After a violent argument, Paul and Barnabas

is leavened all through.
