Genesis
1-2: God made the world. God made the sun, the moon and the
stars....the whole universe. God said "Let there be light" and there
was light.
God made the earth with all its plants and trees
and animals and fish and birds.
God made the first people.....the first man and first woman. God made them
in his
own image and said to them
"Be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth."
God saw all that he had made, and all of it was good, very good
Dear God, thank you for making such a
beautiful world!
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
5: At the start of this day I pray to you, O
Lord, my King and my God. I offer you my prayer and ask for your
help. Through the greatness of your love, I have
access to your friendship. I bow down in reverence and worship. Lead me, Lord, in the way you want me to go.
It is you, Lord, who bless good people.
You surround them with favors, as with a shield.
Lord, I adore you as my Creator

Romans
5.12-21: Through one man, Adam, the virus of sin
entered the world,
and sin infected everyone with death. Through one man, Jesus, the divine anti-virus
of grace entered the world, and brought the gift of eternal life to
everyone who allows it to be installed in their heart. The divine anti-virus of grace is more
powerful than any sin virus
Jesus, please download and install in my heart
your anti-virus program of grace

John
3.13-17: Jesus said to the religious leader:
"The Son of Man must be lifted up on a cross, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so that everyone who
believes may have eternal life in him". God loved the world so much, that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may
have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to
condemn the world,
but so that through him the world might be saved
Jesus, only Son of God the Father, thank you
for coming into this world. Please help more and more people believe in
you

Yesterday at St Benedict's church in Tai Wai, I had the privilege
of concelebrating the first Mass of Fr Dominic Fung O.M.I. who was ordained a
priest two days ago by Bishop Stephen Chow at HK Cathedral.
This
report made me very sad. As Pope Francis says "Even the possession of
nuclear weapons is immoral". People raising a glass to celebrate a new
nuclear bomber .... dreadful.

Other
prophets - some words from Obadiah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai,
Zechariah, Malachi:
Pride of heart leads us astray. See how they are listless, those whose souls are not at peace.
Lord, I have heard of all your wonderful deeds in the past.
Do them again in our day, Lord! Even when everything seems hopeless,
I trust in you Lord, I praise you Lord. Seek the Lord, all you humble people.
Seek integrity, seek humility. In the days to come, people will say
"We want to go with you, since we have learnt that God is with
you". Rejoice heart and soul, people of Jerusalem.
See, your king comes to you.
He is humble and riding on a donkey.
Dear God, thank you for all the
beautiful teachings and stories in "The Old Testament", ("The First
Testament"). I now look forward to your message in "The New Testament"
("The Second Testament")
My
recording of this reading

Psalm 4:
At the end of this day I praise you, Lord,
for all your love and help. O people of the world, how long will you close
your hearts to God?
How long you will keep on chasing false goals? Lord, you have put into my heart a joy that
cannot be obtained by big meals and plenty of wine. I will lie
down in peace and sleep comes at once,
for you, Lord, make me dwell in safety and peace
Thank you, Lord, for your love
and help right through today

5.1-5: By faith and through Jesus we can live in the
friendship of God. We look forward to heaven and an end to all
suffering. In the meantime our suffering teaches us
patience.
Patience produces perseverance. Perseverance produces hope. This hope is not imaginary. It's real, since
the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has
been given to us
Jesus, through your Holy Spirit, please give
me more hope

Isaiah
40: "Console
my people, console them" says the Lord. A voice cries out "Prepare
in the wilderness a way for the Lord. Make a straight highway for our God
across every desert. Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill be
laid low. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all people will see
the Lord's glory." Go up on a high mountain, joyful messenger to Zion.
Shout with a loud voice, joyful messenger to Jerusalem. Shout to the towns of
Judah "Here is your God".
Lord, please help me prepare your way into my heart, into my family, into
my world
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
85: I will hear what the
Lord God has to say, a
voice that speaks of peace. Peace for his people and his friends and
those who turn to him in their hearts. His help is near for those who love him
and his glory will dwell in our land. Mercy and faithfulness have met. Justice
and peace have embraced. Faithfulness shall spring from the earth and justice
shall look down from heaven. The Lord will make us prosper and our earth shall
yield its fruit. Justice shall march before him and peace shall follow his steps
Lord, please give more peace to our world

Matthew
1.1-8: This
is the story of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Long ago God
said through the prophet Isaiah "I am going to send my messenger before
you. He will
prepare your way. A voice cries out in the wilderness: prepare a way for
the Lord". And so it was that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness,
proclaiming a baptism for the forgiveness of sins. As the people were baptized
by John in the river Jordan, they confessed their sins. John wore a garment of
camel skin. Locusts and wild honey were his food. He said to the people
"Someone is coming who is more important than I am. I am not worthy to
kneel down and undo his sandal straps. I baptize you with water. He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit".
Jesus, please help us prepare a way for you

470
years ago today, in 1552, on a remote island off the coast of China, Saint
Francis Xavier died. He could see China some 14km across
the sea, but could not enter it. In the months before he died, he offered up his
suffering that someone else might follow him and enter China. On October 6,
1552, Matteo
Ricci was born in Italy. Xavier's prayer was answered two
months before he died. With hindsight, we can see that for the spread of the
Gospel in China, Ricci's cultural approach was a more suitable missionary method
than Xavier's direct evangelisation. Maybe this is why God allowed Xavier to
leave the scene without entering China.
Xavier died on the island today known as Shangchuan. I've been privileged to visit there a number of times: e.g. 1993 & 2005. But only after checking above Wiki article did I know that the name "Shangchuan" means "Saint John"!
This afternoon at HK Cathedral, Deacon Dominic Fung OMI is due to
be ordained a priest by Bishop Stephen Chow. Thank you Jesus!

5-7: Bethlehem, you are the least important town

2.13-22: Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus went up
to Jerusalem. In the Temple he saw people selling cattle and sheep and
pigeons, with money changers sitting at their counting tables. Jesus made a whip out of some cord, then drove
the sellers out of the Temple, cattle and sheep as well. He scattered the
money changers' coins, knocked their tables over, and said to the pigeon
sellers "Take all of this out of here and stop turning my Father's house
into a market". Some religious leaders asked him "What
sign can you show us to justify what you have done?" Jesus answered "Destroy this sanctuary,
and in three days I will raise it up". The leaders replied
"It has taken 46 years to build this sanctuary".
But Jesus was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when he
rose from the dead, his disciples remembered his words

2.1-11: Jesus, his mother and his disciples were
guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him
"They have no wine".
Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special things has not yet
come". His mother said to the servants
"Do whatever he tells you".
There were 6 big containers there, used for
holding water. Each could hold about 35 liters. Jesus said to the servants
"Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up. Jesus then said "take some out and give
it to the man in charge of the banquet". When the man tasted
the water, it had turned to wine. The man called the bridegroom and said
"You have kept the best wine until now". This was the first public miracle done by

Jonah 2-4: God arranged for a big fish to swallow Jonah.
Jonah was in the fish for 3 days. Inside the fish, Jonah prayed to God for help.
God heard Jonah's prayer and got the fish to vomit Jonah on the shore. Again God told Jonah to preach repentance in
Nineveh.
This time Jonah did as God requested.
"Forty days and Nineveh will be destroyed" he proclaimed. The people of Nineveh believed God's message.
They put on sackcloth and ashes. They fasted and prayed.
They repented of their evil behavior. God saw their change of heart and spared
Nineveh.
Jonah complained to God:
"Your change of mind will cause me a big loss of face." God said to Jonah:
"Do I not have the right to show compassion to my people?"
Lord, please help me repent of
bad behavior

1: Happy the person who
avoids evil and evil entertainment.
Happy the person who reads and meditates on God's words. Such a
person is like a tree planted beside a river, getting plenty of

1.35-51: John the Baptist told his disciples Andrew

"Follow me". Philip called one more man, Nathanael
(Bartholomew) and said to him "we have found the one Moses and the

beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who
proclaims peace and salvation, and tells Zion "Your God is king!"

John
6.1-15(a): Near the
Sea of Galilee, a large crowd followed Jesus, attracted by the way he healed so
many sick people. Jesus climbed a hillside and sat there with his disciples.
Seeing the huge crowd, Jesus said to one of his disciples "How can we
feed so many people?" The disciple Andrew said
"There's a young boy here with 5 loaves and 2 fish. But what good is that
for such a huge crowd?"
Recording
John
6.1-15 (b): Jesus said "Make
the people sit down". The crowd of about 20,000 sat down on the grass. Then
Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and gave them out to all the people. He did
the same with the fish. Everyone
ate as much as they wanted to. The people, seeing this miracle, said
"He really is God's great prophet". Jesus, aware that they wanted to
make him king, slipped away and went up the hill by himself
Jesus, please bless my prayers and actions to help others, just as you
blessed the loaves and fish
