Hello again one final time from Brazil .... on day 51
of my trip. Right now it's about 3am Tuesday Jan 31 in HK but where I am, at Sao
Paulo airport in Brazil, it's about 4pm Monday Jan 30 as I prepare to take a
flight to another place. Before leaving my hotel around midday I paid a final
visit to the homeless people living in the park opposite the hotel ....giving
them some food and drink one more time. Maybe there will be another photo of
them on tomorrow's blog. Previous photos are on yesterday's blog, below. Hearing
how some of them - women as well as men - have been sleeping in the park for
several years ... gives me energy to again ask help from HK for this project to
help homeless people in this part of the world:

38: Jacob's son Judah had
three sons - Er, Onan and Shelah.
Er married Tamar,
but not long after the wedding, Er died.
So, according to custom, Judah asked Onan to marry Tamar
and have a child for his brother.
But Onan spilt his seed each time he slept with Tamar,
so Tamar did not conceive.
Judah then said to Tamar "Wait till Shelah grows up,
and you can marry him."
But when Shelah was older,
he still hadn't been given to Tamar.
So Tamar tricked her father-in-law Judah.
She dressed as a prostitute
and conceived by Judah.
Judah did not know that the woman was Tamar;
her face was covered.
Three months later Judah was told that his daughter-in-law
was pregnant after acting as a prostitute.
Judah followed the harsh local custom and said
"Take her outside and burn her."
But Tamar produced Judah's seal, stick and cord
which he had given to her as a pledge when he had sex with her. So Judah admitted his guilt and freed Tamar
who gave birth to twin boys.
Dear God, please
help married people to be happy

46: God is for us a refuge and strength,
in time of distress he is a helper close at hand. Therefore we shall not fear even though the
earth should rock,
even though the mountains fall into the sea. The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Come and consider the works of the Lord
and always remember his words: "Be still and know that I am God".

Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha lived
in the village of Bethany. When Lazarus became very sick, the sisters sent
a message to Jesus "Lord, your dear friend is very sick". By the time Jesus and his disciples
arrived in Bethany,
Lazarus was dead and buried for 4 days. Martha said to Jesus "If you had been
here, my brother would not have died". Jesus replied "I am the resurrection and
the life. If anyone believes in me, he will have life after death". Jesus said to Mary and Martha "Where have
you put him?" Jesus cried as he went to the tomb. The tomb was a
cave with a stone at the entrance. Jesus said "Take the stone away".
Then he called out in a loud voice "Lazarus, come out!"
The dead man came out, wrapped in burial
clothes. Jesus said "Unwrap him and let him go free"
Jesus, you are the Resurrection and the Life.

Hello again from Brazil .... on day 50
of my trip. Yesterday after attending morning Mass at a nearby church I spent
most of the day at the desk catching up on many jobs. .... after farewelling
several families of prisoners in HK who have been staying with me at my hotel.
Being with these families has been a very, very special experience I will never
forget.
Only yesterday did I discover a group of 18 street sleepers in a park opposite my hotel. Women and men. I bought them some lunch
Homelessness is a problem everywhere, including
HK, but here in Brazil the problem is enormous. Which is why I have started this
appeal:

One day, when the brothers were looking after their sheep
in a distant place, Jacob sent Joseph to see how they were.

The slave traders took Joseph to Egypt and re-sold him there.
The brothers told Jacob that a wild animal had killed Joseph.

met, Esau was friendly and kind to Jacob.
Esau accepted all the gifts of animals that Jacob gave him.
But Jacob continued to be wary of Esau.
Jacob moved to Shechem.
One of the men of Shechem raped
and then wanted to marry Jacob's daughter, Dinah.
Jacob and his sons craftily said they would agree to the marriage
if all of the men of Shechem were circumcised.
The men agreed. But on the third day
while the Shechem men were still in a lot of pain
Jacob's sons Simeon and Levi took matters into their own hands.
They killed all the Shechem men,
because their sister Dinah had been
raped. Jacob did not approve of the
killings.

Hello again from Brazil .... on day 46
of my trip. Many countries can vie for title of "World's Friendliest
Country" (including Australia, Phillipines ...) but Brazil has to be equal
No. 1 .... the people here are so friendly and helpful .... on the street, in
shops, everywhere.
Yesterday I attended several meetings with special people....I
hope the meetings will so some good. Also hope I can learn a bit more Spanish
(which people in Brazil understand)!

Hello again from Brazil .... on day 45
of my trip. A few days ago I mentioned the history of Rio de Janeiro. Well,
today, Jan 25, is a good day to mention the history of Sao
Paulo since it was established on this day in 1554 and named in honour of
St Paul because today is the Feast of the Conversion of St St Paul (see
readings, below)! Google "Sao Paulo". Sao Paulo is the
world's 4th largest city by population (after Tokyo, Delhi and Shanghai). JESUS,
ON THIS SPECIAL DAY, PLS BLESS THE PEOPLE OF SAO PAULO!

Johnson I think you are an idiot suggesting
Ukraine must join NATO! It was talk of Ukraine joining NATO which
unleashed a dangerous Putin. (...not unlike the reaction from USA when
Russia put missiles on its Cuba door). One way to stop the present war is
for Ukraine to drop the idea of joining NATO. This would give Putin an excuse
for stopping his invasion Pls God!

9.1-19: Paul kept up
his campaign against the Lord's disciples. He got the ok to arrest followers of
the Way in Damascus. But on his way to Damascus, a light from heaven surrounded
him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying "Paul, Paul, why are
you persecuting me?" He said "Who are you, Lord?" The voice
replied "I am Jesus, and
you are persecuting me. Go into Damascus and you will be told what to
do". Paul's eyes were open, but for more than a day he was without his
sight, and he ate and drank nothing. The Lord got Ananias, a disciple in
Damascus, to visit Paul and pray for him. The Lord said to Ananias "Paul
is my chosen instrument to bring my name to non-Jews and Jews. He will suffer
much for me". Ananias went to Paul and prayed for him
with the laying on of hands. Straight away, Paul could see again. Then Ananias
baptized him.
Jesus, please help me understand how
unkindness to others is unkindness to you

cast out 7 devils. Next he appeared to two of his disciples while they
were on a journey. Then he appeared to the 11 apostles. He said to them "Go
everywhere in the world. Proclaim the Good News to all creation. Anyone who
believes and is baptized, will be saved. Anyone who refuses to believe, will be
condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my
name they
will cast out devils, they
will have the gift of tongues, they
will pick up snakes in their hands, they will be unharmed if they drink
poison, they will lay their
hands on the sick, who will be healed". And so, the Lord Jesus,
after he had spoken to them, was taken up to heaven, while they, going out,
preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming their message by
the miracles that accompanied the message
Lord Jesus, may more and more people all over the world believe in you
