  Laudato Si:
33. It is not enough, however, to think of different species merely as potential "resources" to be exploited, while overlooking the fact that they have value in themselves. Each year sees the disappearance of thousands of plant and animal species which we will never know, which our children will never see, because they have been lost for ever. The great majority become extinct for reasons related to human activity. Because of us, thousands of species will no longer give glory to God by their very existence, nor convey their message to us. We have no such right.

Exodus 23: Moses told the people: "Don't be unfair to anyone, friend or foe. Work for six days, then rest on the seventh day. Work your land for six years, then let the land rest and recover in the seventh year. Three times a year you must celebrate special feasts: the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Harvest, the Feast of Ingathering. On these three feasts all men must present themselves before the Lord." God's promise: "I will send an angel before you to protect you and bring you to the land I have prepared for you. Eventually you will possess this special land and take it over from the peoples who live there now."
Dear God, please help everyone love you

Psalm 100: Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing for joy. Know that he, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to him. We are his people, the sheep of his flock. Go within his gates, giving thanks. Enter his temple with songs of praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love. He is faithful from age to age.
Dear Lord, please help us to serve you with gladness

Ephesians 1.1-7: From Paul, appointed to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Before the world was made, he chose us in Christ, to live through love in his presence. He chose us, in Christ, to be his adopted children, to make us praise the glory of his grace. This grace is his free gift to us in his Beloved Son, through whose blood we gain our freedom and the forgiveness of our sins

Matthew 3.1-17: About 30 years after Jesus was born, a man began preaching repentance, and baptizing people in the river Jordan. This man was John the Baptist. His message was "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand". John fulfilled the prophecy: "A voice cries in the wilderness: prepare a way for the Lord". John said "I baptize you with water, but one is coming who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit".
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. After Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened, and Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said "This is my Son, the Beloved. My favor rests on him".

Jesus, please help me to prepare your way, like John the Baptist

Laudato Si: 32. The earth's resources are also being plundered because of short-sighted approaches to the economy, commerce and production. The loss of forests and woodlands entails the loss of species which may constitute extremely important resources in the future, not only for food but also for curing disease and other uses. Different species contain genes which could be key resources in years ahead for meeting human needs and regulating environmental problems.

"If a man seduces a virgin, he must marry her. A sorceress must be put to death. Anyone who has intercourse with an animal must die. Do not discriminate against foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. Do not be harsh to widows and orphans. Do not demand interest if you make a loan to a poor person. Laudato Si:
31. Greater scarcity of water will lead to an increase in the cost of food and the various products which depend on its use. Some studies warn that an acute water shortage may occur within a few decades unless urgent action is taken. The environmental repercussions could affect billions of people; it is also conceivable that the control of water by large multinational businesses may become a major source of conflict in this century

Exodus 17:
In one place where there was no water the people grumbled against Moses: "Give us water to drink or else we will die." Moses asked God for help and God told Moses to strike a large rock with his staff. When Moses did this, water flowed from the rock. In another place the Israelites were attacked by the Amalekites. Moses prayed while Joshua led the people in battle. As long as Moses kept his arms raised up in prayer, the Israelites were winning. But when Moses let his arms down, the Amalekites started winning. So Aaron and Hur got Moses to sit on a rock and they supported his hands until sunset. Joshua and the people then won the battle.
Dear God, please help us understand the power of prayer

Psalm 95: Come ring out our joy to the Lord. Hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him giving thanks. With songs let us praise the Lord. To him belongs the sea, for he made it, and the dry land shaped by his hands. Come in, let us bow and bend low. Let us kneel before the God who made us. Romans 5.1-5: By faith and through Jesus we can live in the friendship of God. We look forward to heaven and an end to all suffering. In the meantime our suffering teaches us patience. Patience produces perseverance. Perseverance produces hope. This hope is not imaginary. It's real, since the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Jesus, through your Holy Spirit, please give me more hope

John 4.1-14: Jesus visited a Samaritan town. Near a well there, Jesus said to a Samaritan woman "Give me a drink". He also said to her  "If you drink water from this well, you will get thirsty again. But if you drink the water that I shall give, you will never be thirsty again. The water that I shall give will turn into a spring of eternal life inside you".
Jesus, please give me a drink of your eternal life water  - which is your Holy Spirit

Laudato Si
30. Even as the quality of available water is constantly diminishing, in some places there is a growing tendency, despite its scarcity, to privatize this resource, turning it into a commodity subject to the laws of the market. Yet access to safe drinkable water is a basic and universal human right, since it is essential to human survival and, as such, is a condition for the exercise of other human rights. Our world has a grave social debt towards the poor who lack access to drinking water, because they are denied the right to a life consistent with their inalienable dignity. This debt can be paid partly by an increase in funding to provide clean water and sanitary services among the poor. But water continues to be wasted, not only in the developed world but also in developing countries which possess it in abundance. This shows that the problem of water is partly an educational and cultural issue, since there is little awareness of the seriousness of such behaviour within a context of great inequality.

Put to death anyone who kills someone in cold blood, anyone who curses or strikes his father or mother. Psalm 98: Sing a new song to the Lord for he has worked wonders. His right hand has brought salvation. The Lord has made known his salvation. He has shown his justice to the nations. He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout to the Lord all the earth, ring out your joy. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp, with the sound of music. Let the sea, the world and all peoples acclaim the King, the Lord. Let the rivers clap their hands and the hills ring out their joy at the presence of the Lord, for he comes to rule the earth. He will rule the world with justice and the peoples with fairness.

Galatians 5.19-26: When self-indulgence is at work, the results are obvious: sexual irresponsibility, sorcery, feuds and wrangling, jealousy and drunkenness. You cannot belong to Christ Jesus unless you crucify all self-indulgent desires. Let us be directed by the Spirit. We must stop being conceited, provocative and envious

Laudato Si:
29. One particularly serious problem is the quality of water available to the poor. Every day, unsafe water results in many deaths and the spread of water-related diseases, including those caused by microorganisms and chemical substances. Dysentery and cholera, linked to inadequate hygiene and water supplies, are a significant cause of suffering and of infant mortality. Underground water sources in many places are threatened by the pollution produced in certain mining, farming and industrial activities, especially in countries lacking adequate regulation or controls. It is not only a question of industrial waste. Detergents and chemical products, commonly used in many places of the world, continue to pour into our rivers, lakes and seas.

John 21.1-14: Jesus also appeared to the disciples at the Sea of Galilee, when Peter, John and 5 other disciples were fishing. They had spent all night in their boat, but had caught nothing. In the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, though the disciples did not recognize him. He called out "Lower your net on the right side of the boat". Immediately the net filled with fish. John realized that the man on the shore was Jesus. John said to Peter "It is the Lord", and they returned to the shore, which was only about 100 meters away. The net had 153 big fish, but did not break. Jesus had prepared some bread. He also had some fish cooking on a charcoal fire. He said "Come and have breakfast"

Laudato Si:
28. Fresh drinking water is an issue of primary importance, since it is indispensable for human life and for supporting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Sources of fresh water are necessary for health care, agriculture and industry. Water supplies used to be relatively constant, but now in many places demand exceeds the sustainable supply, with dramatic consequences in the short and long term. Large cities dependent on significant supplies of water have experienced periods of shortage, and at critical moments these have not always been administered with sufficient oversight and impartiality. Water poverty especially affects Africa where large sectors of the population have no access to safe drinking water or experience droughts which impede agricultural production. Some countries have areas rich in water while others endure drastic scarcity.

John 20.21-29: That same Sunday evening, the doors were locked in the room where the disciples had gathered, for fear of the religious leaders. But Jesus appeared and stood before them, saying "Peace be with you". He showed them his hands and his side and said "As the Father sent me, so I am sending you". Then he breathed on them, saying "Receive the Holy Spirit". Thomas, one of the 12 apostles, was not there that night. When the other disciples said they had seen the Lord, he replied "Unless I see and touch his wounded body, I refuse to believe". Eight days later, the group was again in the same house, with the doors locked. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus again appeared and stood before them saying "Peace be with you". Then he said to Thomas "Put your hand into my side. Doubt no longer, but believe".  Thomas replied "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said "You believe because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen me and yet believe"
Jesus, my Lord and my God, I believe in you. Help me live and grow and die in your friendship

27. Other indicators of the present situation have to do with the depletion of natural resources. We all know that it is not possible to sustain the present level of consumption in developed countries and wealthier sectors of society, where the habit of wasting and discarding has reached unprecedented levels. The exploitation of the planet has already exceeded acceptable limits and we still have not solved the problem of poverty.

Exodus 18: Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, heard about all that God had done for Moses and the Israelites, so he visited Moses in the desert.
Jethro saw that Moses was struggling to do so much administration by himself. Jethro suggested that Moses appoint men to help him: leaders of thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.  Moses accepted this advice and appointed judges as Jethro suggested. These judges handled all small issues and referred only difficult cases to Moses.

John 20.11-18: Peter and John went home. Mary Magdalene remained at the tomb, crying. When she looked inside the tomb, she saw two angels in white. She also saw Jesus standing there, though she did not recognize him. Jesus said "Woman, why are you crying?". Mary thought he was the gardener so she said to him "If you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him". Jesus said "Mary" and she recognized him. Jesus then said "I will ascend to my Father". Mary went and told the disciples all she had seen and heard
