Judith
7: Holofernes laid siege against the Israelite
mountain town of Bethulia.
Holofernes seized control of Bethulia's water supply springs,
thinking that thirst would force the Israelites to surrender. For 34 days the siege continued, until the
people of Bethulia were weak from thirst. The people of Bethulia prayed hard to God for
help.
The leaders of Bethulia planned to hold out for 5 more days
before surrendering.
A feeling of hopelessness hung over the town.
God, help of the helpless, please help people who are in big trouble

Psalms
42-45: Like a deer that longs for running streams,
so my soul is longing for you, my God. My soul is thirsting for you, the God of my
life.
I think of you all the time, here in my land of exile. People make fun of us here in exile.
They taunt us saying "Where is your God?" Yet no matter what happens we will hope in you,
for you are our saviour and our God. No
matter where we are or what happens to us,
our hearts will long for you, like a bride longing for her groom.
Lord, no matter what happens,
may I always hope in you

Acts
7.55 - 8.3:
Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked
up and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God's right hand. "I can see heaven thrown open", he
said, "and Jesus standing at the right hand of God". At this, the religious leaders at the meeting
covered their ears with their hands. They sent Stephen out of the city and
stoned him. The false witnesses (who were required to throw the first
stones) put down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Paul. As they were stoning him, Stephen prayed
"Lord Jesus, receive my spirit". Then he knelt down and prayed
"Lord, do not hold this sin against them". Then he died. Paul
entirely approved of the killing. That day a bitter persecution started against
the church in Jerusalem
and everyone except the apostles fled to the countryside. Paul began working for the destruction of the church. He went from house to house arresting men and
women and sending them to prison
Jesus, thank you for the example of Stephen
who, like yourself, forgave those who were killing him

9.1-6:
Jesus called the 12 apostles together. He
gave them power and authority to cast out devils and to heal sick people.
He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
So they set out and went from village to
village proclaiming the Good News and healing sick people
Jesus, help me understand how some
people have a special gift for healing sick people....and how I can
better pray to heal sick people

6:
Holofernes not only ignored Achior's advice, he ridiculed him for
suggesting that the Israelites could resist his army.
Holofernes then handed Achior over to the Israelites "to suffer the

The Lord will bring him back from sickness to health.

Acts
7.1-54: The meeting of religious leaders had falsely
accused Stephen of being disloyal to Moses. So Stephen gave a long speech, full of loyalty
to Moses. Then he made a stinging attack on the leaders: "You
stubborn people, with your pagan hearts and pagan ears. You are always
resisting the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors did. Your ancestors killed the prophets who
foretold the coming of the Just One. You have gone further: you
have killed the Just One himself". When the leaders heard these words, they were
very angry and wanted to kill Stephen

me resist the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit of God, please increase your
influence in my life

Luke
8.40-56: A prayer hall official came to Jesus and
urgently asked him to go to his house, where his 12 year old daughter was
dying.
As Jesus and his friends were following the official to his home,
a woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years came up behind Jesus and touched
his clothing. Her bleeding stopped at that moment.
Jesus knew what had happened and said to her
"My daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace".
Before Jesus arrived at the official's house, a messenger arrived
and said to the official "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the
Master any more". Jesus heard these words and said to the
official "Do not be afraid. Have faith, and she will be ok". At the house Jesus allowed only Peter, James,
John and the girl's parents to go with him inside.
To the mourners Jesus said "Stop crying.
She is not dead, but asleep". They laughed at him, since they
knew she was dead.
Jesus took the little girl by the hand and called to her "Child, get
up". Her spirit returned and she got up at once
Jesus, please increase my faith in your power to
heal sick people and raise the dead

Proverbs
30-31: Every
word of God is true and of great value. Do not change or misinterpret God's
words. Do not give way to sexual excess. Do not give way to drunkenness. Be
the voice of the poor, the unwanted.
Uphold the rights of the needy. Happy the man who finds a good wife. She is far
beyond the price of pearls. She looks after her household with care. She works
diligently for her family. She holds out her hand to the poor. She opens her
arms to the needy. Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty. The woman who is wise
is the one to praise.

128: O blessed are those
who love the Lord and walk in his ways. By the labor of your hands you shall
eat. You will be happy and prosper: your wife like a fruitful vine in the heart
of your house; your children like shoots of the olive, around your table. Indeed
thus shall be blessed the people who love and honor the Lord. May the Lord bless

Our world has become so multipolar and
at the same time so complex that a different framework for effective cooperation
is required. It is not enough to think only of balances of power but also
of the need to provide a response to new problems and to react with global
mechanisms to the environmental, public health, cultural and social challenges,
especially in order to consolidate respect for the most elementary human rights,
social rights and the protection of our common home. It is a matter of
establishing global and effective rules that can permit "providing
for" this global safeguarding.

Achior told Holofernes of the Israelites' history: how God had freed

protected them. Holofernes ignored Achior's advice

6.8-15: One of the seven deacons, Stephen, was filled
with grace and power.
He began to do many miracles. A group of Jews tried to beat Stephen in a
debate. But they could not win, because the Holy Spirit was guiding
Stephen in his speech. The group then got some men to falsely accuse
Stephen of being disloyal to Moses and to God. The group had Stephen arrested and brought
before a meeting of the religious leaders. At the meeting, false witnesses

Straight away the wind and sea were calm. The disciples said to each other

The old diplomacy, also in crisis, continues to show its importance and

Nebuchadnezzar summoned his top general Holofernes
and gave him a huge army to punish the nations
that had not joined him for the war against Arphaxad. Nation after nation, people after people, fell to the sword of
Holofernes.
Some places made peace with Holofernes
by giving him all their possessions and then becoming slaves of
Nebuchadnezzar, worshipping Nebuchadnezzar as a god.
As the army of Holofernes approached Israel,

word. Therefore you should choose seven men of good reputation, filled
with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom. We give them the food
distribution job, so that we can devote ourselves to prayer

They

It is not a matter of replacing politics,
but of recognizing that the emerging forces are becoming increasingly relevant
and are in fact capable of obtaining important results in the resolution of
concrete problems, as some of them demonstrated during the pandemic. The very
fact that answers to problems can come from any country, however little, ends up
presenting multilateralism as an inevitable process.

with these people. If this movement of theirs is of human origin, it will
die out of its own accord. But if it comes from God, you will not be able
to destroy it. You might even find yourselves fighting against God".
His advice was accepted. The apostles were

8.4-15:
One day Jesus told the people this story: A farmer was planting seeds in his field.
Some seeds fell on the path. Birds ate them.
Some seeds fell on rocky ground.
They became sickly plants, without roots, and died. Some seeds fell among thorns.
When they became plants, they were choked by the thorns. Some seeds fell on
good soil
and produced a rich harvest. People who hear God's word without good will
are like the seeds on the path.
They are easy prey for Satan. People who hear God's word only superficially
are like the seeds on rocky ground.
As soon as difficulties come, such people easily give up. People who hear God's word with one ear
but with the other are listening to the call of greed and pleasure
are like the seeds among thorns. Greed kills the word. People who hear God's word with good will and
put it into practice
are like the good seeds which produced a rich harvest
