Tues Dec 5
Yesterday afternoon I went to Lai
King prison for young women ... where I was sad to meet some young HK local
women who had been recruited/tricked to go other countries and bring drugs back
to HK.

Despite the many negotiations and agreements, global emissions continue to
increase. Certainly, it could be said that, without those agreements, they would
have increased even more. Still, in other themes related to the environment,
when there was a will, very significant results were obtained, as was the case
with the protection of the ozone layer. Yet,
the necessary transition towards clean energy sources such as wind and solar
energy, and the abandonment of fossil fuels, is not progressing at the necessary
speed. Consequently, whatever is being done risks being seen only as a
ploy to distract attention.

Esther
4: When Mordecai heard about Haman's plan,
Mordecai asked Esther to appeal to Ahasuerus for help. Mordecai and Esther both knew that to approach
the king
without an invitation was a crime punishable by death,
unless the king saw fit to welcome an uninvited person. So they prayed to God to move the heart of
Ahasuerus to welcome Esther.
Dear God, please move the
hearts of rulers
to care for their people

Psalms
73-77: Sometimes when I see how bad people prosper,
I wonder what's the use in trying to be good?
But then I realize that
everyone someday has to pay the bill
for any evil they have bought in the world. Sometimes when I see
our world and religion in ruins,
I wonder why has God abandoned us? Then I remember that
God has promised to break the power
of the wicked. He has promised to give strength to good people. So may all people honor
the Lord our God and judge.
May the Lord give us his loving help.
Lord,
you are goodness itself. Please help us to be good
and to trust you always

Acts
13.13-52:
Paul and Barnabas went to another Antioch,
Antioch in Pisidia.
Out of jealousy, the local Jewish leaders there stopped Paul from preaching to
the Jewish community. Paul and Barnabas then turned their attention to non-Jewish
people, and so the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.
But the Jewish leaders kept up their campaign,
and had Paul and Barnabas expelled from Pisidia

Thank you for enough food for today.

About this time Haman from the land of Agag
was promoted by King Ahasuerus to a top position. All other officials were
to bow and prostrate themselves before Haman. Mordecai refused to bow to
Haman. This made
Haman very angry.
Haman found out that Mordecai was a Jew.
Haman decided to kill Mordecai and all Jews in the kingdom. Ahasuerus agreed to Haman's plan

Dec 3
1st Sun of Advent

Advent means the countdown to Christmas has begun. May the thought of Christmas give our troubled world a bit more hope, courage, strength and peace. These gifts are from Jesus. Even thinking about him starts to produce such gifts. As happened recently when I attended a funeral service: the words of Jesus offered hope and strength and courage and peace to the mourners

54. If we are confident in the capacity
of human beings to transcend their petty interests and to think in bigger
terms, we can keep hoping that COP28 will allow for a decisive acceleration of
energy transition, with effective commitments subject to ongoing monitoring.
This Conference can represent a change of direction, showing that everything
done since 1992 was in fact serious and worth the effort, or else it will be a
great disappointment and jeopardize whatever good has been achieved thus far.

Psalms
79-80: O God, the nations
have invaded your sacred land, they have profaned your holy temple. They have
made Jerusalem a heap of ruins. We have become the taunt of our neighbours, the
mockery and scorn of those who surround us. How long, O Lord, will all this
last? How long will this sorrow keep going? Do not hold the guilt of our
ancestors against us. If their guilt is somehow influencing our situation now
please give peace and healing to everyone and everything in our history. Let
the groans of the prisoners come before you. Let your strong arm reprieve

increasing their production. To say that there is nothing to hope for

12.1-17: About this time, King Herod began persecuting

stormed heaven praying for him. On the night before he was to be put on

example of the difficulty of negotiations. It could be said that at least it
marked a step forward in consolidating a system for financing "loss and

points remained imprecise, above all the
concrete responsibility of the countries that have to contribute.

believers to persevere in the faith, especially during difficult times in
