Readings are from Simple Bible

Song of Songs 8: Set me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is strong as death. Love is like a fire, a mighty flame. No flood can quench love. No torrents can drown it. Money cannot buy love.
Lord, please fill my heart with your love

My recording of this reading

Psalm 144: Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who gives me strength for every situation. He is my love, my fortress. He is my stronghold, my savior. To you, O God, will I sing a new song, you who so often rescued David your servant. Happy the people whose God is the Lord. Please continue to bless your people, Lord. Let our sons flourish like saplings grown tall and strong from their youth; our daughters graceful as columns,
adorned as though for a palace. Let our crops and stock be blessed. May there be no sound of weeping on our streets.

Lord, please help us love and honor you every day. Don't let us ever forget your love

Listen

Romans 10-11: If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. How wonderful is God!  How great his wisdom and knowledge. What finite creature could ever understand the mind of our infinite Creator? All that exists comes from him. To him be glory for ever!
Jesus, Father, Spirit - three persons, one God  - to you be glory for ever!

Listen

John 5.36-46: Jesus said to the religious leaders "The healing and teaching my Father has given me to do, testify that the Father sent me. You study the Scriptures, realizing that in them there is the message of life. Now these same Scriptures focus on me, and yet you refuse to come to me for life. If you really believe what Moses wrote, you would believe in me, since it was I that he was writing about".
Jesus, please help me understand how everything in the Bible is related to you. Help me understand that "ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of you"

Listen

Reflection: "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Jesjus" (St Jerome)

Song of Song 5-7:

The bride:
His conversation is sweetness itself, my beloved is totally  lovable. I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine.

The groom:
You are beautiful, my love, as beautiful as Jerusalem.
How beautiful are your feet and thighs. The curve of your thighs is like the curve of a necklace. Your navel is like an exquisite wine glass. Your belly is like a heap of wheat. Your two breasts are like two baby deer. Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your eyes are like beautiful water pools. Your nose is like a majestic tower. How beautiful you are, how charming, my love, my delight.

Lord, please help me understand how much you love me

My recording of this reading

Psalm 138: I thank you, Lord, with all my heart. You have heard the words of my mouth. With the angels I will bless you. I will adore you in your holy temple. I thank you for your faithfulness and love which are far above what we can understand. On the day I called you answered. You increased the strength of my soul. All earth's kings shall thank you when they hear the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the Lord's ways: "How great is the glory of the Lord!" Though I walk in the midst of affliction you give me life and frustrate my foes. Your love, O Lord, is eternal. Do not abandon us whom you have made.
Lord, when we remember how much you love us and help us, every day of the year is a Thanksgiving Day
Listen

Romans 10.1-4: I have a really great love for the Jews. I pray to God for them to be saved. They have a strong belief in God, but their zeal is misguided. They can't see that friendship with God is a gift from God,
not just a matter of external practices

Jesus, some people have mixed up ideas about religion (.. Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses). Help them know the truth as you revealed it

Listen

John 5.17-30: Jesus said to the religious leaders "My Father goes on working, and so do I.  Whoever refuses honor to the Son, refuses honor to the Father who sent him. The Father judges no one. He has entrusted all judgement to the Son. A time will come  when the dead will leave their graves at the sound of the Son's voice. Those who did good, will rise again to life. Those who did evil, will face condemnation".
Jesus, some day you are going to be my judge. On that day may I hear you say "I was hungry, and you gave me food etc"  (Matthew 25. 31 - 46)

c.f. readings for Lent 4

2 Kings 21-25: Josiah king of Judah was a good leader who loved the Lord. and promoted religious reform. But most other kings of Judah and Israel at this time were not good. The country was invaded by the king of Babylon who deported most of the population to Babylon. Only the poorest people in the countryside were left behind.
Dear God,  please give the world good leaders

My recording of this reading

Psalm 137: By the rivers of Babylon we sat and cried, remembering Zion. On the poplars that grew there we hung up our harps. For it was there that they asked us, our captors, for songs. "Sing to us", they said, "one of Zion's songs". O how could we sing the song of the Lord on alien soil? If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand wither. O let my tongue cleave to my mouth if I remember you not, Jerusalem, above all my joys.
Lord, please help  people who have been exiled from their homeland

 Listen

Ephesians 2.4-10: God loved us so much, that when we were dead through our sins, he brought us to life with Christ. We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live a life of goodness, as God originally intended us to live.
Heavenly Father, help me live my life the way you want me to live it
 Listen

John 3.13-17: Jesus said to the religious leader: "The Son of Man must be lifted up on a cross, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him". God loved the world so much, that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.
Jesus, only Son of God the Father, thank you for coming into this world. Please help more and more people believe in you

Psalm 140-143: Lord, save me from people who do evil, you who do justice for the needy. I have no way out of this situation. And no one wants to help me. Romans 9.1-5: There is a great sorrow in my heart. It's with me day and night. It's the situation of the Jewish people, how they will not accept the Anointed One. I am willing to do anything to help them accept Jesus. I am willing to undergo the greatest suffering if that would help them believe. They are my nation, my family. They have been so blessed by God. From their flesh and blood came Christ, who is God.
Jesus, God-made-flesh, I pray with Paul that the Jewish people will believe in you

John 5.1-14: Jesus again went up to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival. In a building near the Sheep Gate, he saw many sick people. One paralyzed man had been ill for 38 yearsJesus said to him  "Do you want to be well again? Get up, pick up your bed and walk". The man was healed at once. He picked up his bed and walked away. After a while Jesus met him in the Temple and said to him "Now that you are well, do not sin any more"
Jesus, if my sickness is due to some sin, please forgive me and heal me

Psalm 139: O Lord, you search me and you know me. You know my resting and my rising. You know exactly what's going on in my life, all my ways are an open book to you. Before ever a word is on my tongue, you know, O Lord, what I'm going to say. Your knowledge is beyond my understanding, too high, beyond my reach. It was you who created my being, knit me together in my mother's womb. I thank you for the wonder of my life, for the wonders of all your creation.

John 4.46-53: Jesus went again to Cana in Galilee, where he had changed water into wine. In Cana there was a royal official whose son was dying in his home in the town of Capernaum. The official asked Jesus to go to his home and cure his son. "Sir", he said to Jesus, "come to my house before my child dies". Jesus replied "Go home. Your son will live". The official believed Jesus and started his journey home. While on the journey,  he was met by his servants who told him the boy was alive and well.  "The fever left him yesterday, they said, "at 1pm". The father realized that this was the exact time when Jesus had said "Your son will live".  The official and all his household then believed in Jesus

Ecclesiastes 10-11: Foolish people are lazy,  and careless in speech. Wise people are diligent, and careful in speech. Young people, rejoice in your youth. Young people, remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Let everyone remember: our life is short. Don't waste your life. Live life well. Our days pass quickly and old age is soon at the doorstep. Old age: when to go uphill is difficult and even walking is not easy. In all we do, let us love and honor the Lord our God. At the end of our lives on earth, it is to God we will have to give an account of the way we have lived.
Lord, make us know the shortness of our life so that we may have more wisdom in living our lives

My recording of this reading

Psalm 137: By the rivers of Babylon we sat and cried, remembering Zion. On the poplars that grew there we hung up our harps. For it was there that they asked us, our captors, for songs. Romans 8.14-21: Everyone moved by the Spirit is a child of God. The Spirit lets us use children's language to speak to God tenderly as "Abba, Father". Since we are God's children, we are also his heirs, coheirs with Jesus, sharing his suffering so as to share his glory. What we suffer in this life can never be compared with the glorious life we will have in heaven. The whole of creation looks forward to sharing the same glory, to sharing immortality
Abba, Father, may everyone love and honor you. Help everyone get to heaven

Listen

John 4.1-14:
Jesus visited a Samaritan town. Near a well there, Jesus said to a Samaritan woman "Give me a drink". He also said to her  "If you drink water from this well, you will get thirsty again. But if you drink the water that I shall give, you will never be thirsty again. The water that I shall give will turn into a spring of eternal life inside you"
Jesus, please give me a drink of your eternal life water - which is your Holy Spirit
