Yesterday's
usual Monday lunch for homeless people at the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple Street
had some special visitors, including an O.M.I. priest from Vietnam who used to
be a doctor, and Fr Luc Young O.M.I. of the China Delegation who used to be
nurse!
CO2
emissions by country in 2016 *** HK put 47,066,386 tons
of CO2 into the atmosphere in 2016; China 10, 432,761,400 tons; USA
5,011,686,600 tons; Australia 414,986,700 tons. So much CO2 is a main reason why
people are now starving, like the
people of Zambia. The first link shows how each country's total is made up
..e.g. HK's figure shows 64.5% from the power industry (...c.f. HK
burnt 6.5 millions tons of coal in 2021). HK's CO2 figure for 2022 was 33,500,000
tons

Daniel
4-6: Some of the king's officials were jealous of Daniel,
so they had him arrested on a false charge and condemned to death. One evening, Daniel was put into a cave of lions.
The mouth of the cave was sealed with a great stone. In the cave Daniel prayed to God for help,
and God protected Daniel. The next morning the stone was removed.
Daniel walked out unharmed. The king then ordered Daniel's accusers to be put into the cave.
The lions immediately ate them.
Thank you, Lord, for protecting

119: They are happy who follow God's word,
those who seek God with all their hearts. How can young people avoid evil?
By seeking you and obeying you, Lord. Open my eyes, Lord, that I may understand the beauty of your word.
Lord, when I'm worried or in trouble,
your word revives me and gives me strength. Lord, keep my eyes from what is false.
Bend my heart to your word and not to love of gain. The word from your mouth means more to me
than silver and gold. The unfolding of your word gives light

I asked your disciples to heal him but they were not able to." There was an evil spirit oppressing the boy,

The boy was healed immediately. Jesus' disciples asked him
"Why were we unable to expel that spirit?" Jesus answered "Because your faith is not
strong enough."

teaching tour of the nearby villages. He sent out his 12 special friends
in 6 pairs, with authority over evil spirits. He told them to take only bare
essentials for the journey. He said "If
any place does not welcome you, as you leave that place shake the dust from your
feet as a sign to them". The 12 apostles preached repentance. They
cast out many devils. They anointed sick people with oil and healed them.
Jesus, may every place welcome you and your messengers

Reflection on the above readings: After being rejected (last Sunday's Gospel) in his home town of Nazareth, Jesus did not "drop his bundle" but kept going ... even expanding his ministry by sending out the apostles. May we also keep going, despite setbacks.

Yesterday I visited Stanley and Tung Tau prisons ....meeting many
old friends who used to be in Lai Chi Kok prison before they were sentenced, as
well as many remand cases who have been transferred from LCK because of
renovations there.
Prayers please for Fr Mark Serna O.M.I. who is in intensive care
in HK after experiencing a brain stroke. Good news .... he is able to hear and
also able to move his hands now. Thank you Jesus!

Yesterday another street sleeper who had been homeless for many
years finally agreed to be helped by MercyHK case workers to go to a local home
for seniors. That's 2 in a week! Well done our case workers!

Daniel 1: There were many
Israelite exiles in Babylon.
The king of Babylon wanted some of them to work in his palace. The king told his
officials to select 4 young men
and train them in local customs and culture. The 4 selected were
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
God blessed these 4 with great wisdom.
God also blessed Daniel with the gift of understanding dreams. When the 4 began work
for the king,
they were much wiser than all the local officials.
Lord,
please give us the gift of wisdom,
as you gave it to Daniel and his friends

Ezekiel 35-48:
Through Ezekiel, God kept calling on the

to turn from their sins and remember their Creator. God said he would bring back Israel's exiles
to their homeland.
He would give them a new start in life,
like a skeleton coming back to life. God said the people would re-build the Temple
in Jerusalem,
and religious practice would once again flourish. The people would once again remember God.
The people would once again be blessed by the Lord.

have forgotten you
to come back to you

Yesterday
at Stanley I visited Pak Sha Wan and Tung Tau men's prisons .... and hopefully
on Friday I can also visit Stanley Prison.
A
man who has been sleeping on the street for around 20 years ..... at a location
a few minutes from the Dr Jesus Centre .... a few days ago moved to a nearby
seniors home, thanks to the help of MercyHK case workers

or look for lost sheep. On the contrary, you have been cruel to the sheep
and treated them badly. Therefore I will look after my flock myself.
I will rescue them from where they have been scattered. I will look for the lost one, bring back the stray,
bandage the injured, and make the weak strong. I will also judge the sheep themselves.
I will judge the fat sheep which have bullied the weak sheep. I will raise up a special shepherd
and put him in charge of all my sheep."
Lord, please help all leaders care for their

when they saw the dumb speaking, cripples whole again,
the lame walking and the blind able to see.

1.24 - 2.2: As I sit in my prison, I am at peace in my
suffering, offering up my suffering to Christ for the sake of his body,
the Church. God chose me to reveal to you his sacred
message: Christ, your hope of glory, is among you.
My aim is to bind you together in love, and to
keep you growing in your knowledge of God's plan for your lives

Jesus went to the coastal district near Tyre
and Sidon.
A foreign woman followed him and shouted
"Sir, Son of David, have pity on me.
My daughter is tormented by an evil spirit." At first Jesus did not answer her, so his
disciples said to him
"Help her, because she keeps shouting after us." Jesus replied "I was sent only to the
people of Israel".
The foreign woman by now was kneeling at Jesus' feet.
"Lord, help me" she pleaded. Jesus said to her "Woman, you have great
faith. Your wish is granted". At that very moment, her daughter
was healed.
Jesus, please give sick people
great faith in you
