Imitating
Pope Francis
Tues Nov 26
Yesterday after an early morning meeting in Admiralty concerning the
anti-drug campaign of my NGO Voice for Prisoners I went to Lai Chi Kok
men's prison to deliver special news for a prisoner from Africa: his sister had gone
home to Heaven a few days ago. But the W/App message I got from the man's
wife did not name the deceased sister ... and the man has 4 sisters... and he
did not know which one had died. So I went of the prison and after several
efforts I was able to phone the wife for the name ....then I went back into
the prison to let the man know the sister's name. I also saw a welfare officer
who said he will help the man make a phone call to his wife in the coming couple
of days. And see
below!
I watched this most important documentary yesterday during breakfast: Link

Pope's
new encyclical "He Loved Us"
31. In the end, that Sacred Heart is the unifying principle of all reality, since “Christ is the heart of the world, and the paschal mystery of his death and resurrection is the centre of history, which, because of him, is a history of salvation”. All creatures “are moving forward with us and through us towards a common point of arrival, which is God, in that transcendent fullness where the risen Christ embraces and illumines all things”. In the presence of the heart of Christ, I once more ask the Lord to have mercy on this suffering world in which he chose to dwell as one of us. May he pour out the treasures of his light and love, so that our world, which presses forward despite wars, socio-economic disparities and uses of technology that threaten our humanity, may regain the most important and necessary thing of all: its heart.

While Jesus was praying after his baptism, heaven opened and the Holy

Yesterday before entering Lai Chi Kok men's prison, as I
left the nearby MTR station, I saw an elderly street sleeper who I used to see
every time I went to LCK for many years, but had not seen for several months. So
I gave him some money to buy food (... he's not a drug addict). Then as I was
having an early lunch in a nearby canteen before entering the prison a man
around 40 years old walked passed my table, picked up my bill saying "I'll
look after that, Father" and went to the cashier at the front of the
canteen as I called out "Thank you so much" .... not sure of his
name, though his face seemed familiar. And I thought to myself "15 mins ago
I was kind to a street sleeper ... and now someone is kind to me!".

Yesterday afternoon I needed to go to Mong Kok for some special

for Indonesians, the first being Victoria Park.

30. This in no way implies an undue reliance on our own abilities. Let us never forget that our hearts are not self-sufficient, but frail and wounded. They possess an ontological dignity, yet at the same time must seek an ever more dignified life. The Second Vatican Council points out that “the ferment of the Gospel has aroused and continues to arouse in human hearts an unquenchable thirst for human dignity”. Yet to live in accordance with this dignity, it is not enough to know the Gospel or to carry out mechanically its demands. We need the help of God’s love. Let us turn, then, to the heart of Christ, that core of his being, which is a blazing furnace of divine and human love and the most sublime fulfilment to which humanity can aspire. There, in that heart, we truly come at last to know ourselves and we learn how to love.

29. Taking the heart seriously, then, has consequences for society as a whole. The Second Vatican Council teaches that, “every one of us needs a change of heart; we must set our gaze on the whole world and look to those tasks we can all perform together in order to bring about the betterment of our race”. For “the imbalances affecting the world today are in fact a symptom of a deeper imbalance rooted in the human heart”. In pondering the tragedies afflicting our world, the Council urges us to return to the heart. It explains that human beings “by their interior life, transcend the entire material universe; they experience this deep interiority when they enter into their own heart, where God, who probes the heart, awaits them, and where they decide their own destiny in the sight of God”.

28. It is only by starting from the heart that our communities will succeed in uniting and reconciling differing minds and wills, so that the Spirit can guide us in unity as brothers and sisters. Reconciliation and peace are also born of the heart. The heart of Christ is “ecstasy”, openness, gift and encounter. In that heart, we learn to relate to one another in wholesome and happy ways, and to build up in this world God’s kingdom of love and justice. Our hearts, united with the heart of Christ, are capable of working this social miracle.

27. Before the heart of Jesus, living and present, our mind, enlightened by the Spirit, grows in the understanding of his words and our will is moved to put them into practice. This could easily remain on the level of a kind of self-reliant moralism. Hearing and tasting the Lord, and paying him due honour, however, is a matter of the heart. Only the heart is capable of setting our other powers and passions, and our entire person, in a stance of reverence and loving obedience before the Lord.

was 12 years old, they went to Jerusalem as usual. But when their traveling group left Jerusalem,
Jesus stayed behind without his parents knowing it. They presumed he
was somewhere with the group. When they couldn't find him, they went back
to Jerusalem to look for him. After 2 days, they found him, in the Temple,
listening to the religion teachers and asking them questions. People who
heard him were astounded at his intelligence. His mother said to him "My child, why
have you done this to us? Your father and I have been really worried about
you". Jesus replied "Why were you looking for
me? Didn't you know that I must be concerned with my Father's
work?" But they didn't understand what he meant. He went with them to Nazareth and lived under
their authority.

Pope's
new encyclical "He Loved Us"
26. Saint Bonaventure said that in the end you have to ask "not the light, but the fire." And he taught that "faith is in the intellect, so that it provokes affection. For example: knowing that Christ died for us does not remain knowledge, but necessarily becomes affection, love." Along these lines, St. John Henry Newman took as his motto the phrase " Cor ad cor loquitur ", because beyond all dialectics, the Lord saves us by speaking to our hearts from his sacred Heart. This same logic meant that for him, a great thinker, the place of the deepest encounter with himself and with the Lord was not reading or reflection, but prayerful dialogue, from heart to heart, with Christ alive and present. For this reason Newman found in the Eucharist the living Heart of Jesus Christ, capable of liberating, of giving meaning to every moment and of pouring out true peace to the human being: "Most sacred and beloved Heart of Jesus, you are hidden in the Holy Eucharist and still suffer for us. I venerate you, then, with all my best love and reverence, with my fervent affection, with my greatest submission and the most resolute will. My God, when you condescend to suffer me to receive you, to eat you, to drink you, and for a moment to take up your abode in me, make my heart beat with yours. Purify it from all that is earthly, from all that is pride and sensuality, from all that is hard and cruel, from all wickedness, from all disorder, from all mortality. Fill it so with yourself that neither the events of the moment nor the circumstances of the time will have power to alter it, but that in your love and in your fear it may be at peace"

25. Where the thinking of the philosopher halts, there the heart of the believer presses on in love and adoration, in pleading for forgiveness and in willingness to serve in whatever place the Lord allows us to choose, in order to follow in his footsteps. At that point, we realize that in God’s eyes we are a “Thou”, and for that very reason we can be an “I”. Indeed, only the Lord offers to treat each one of us as a “Thou”, always and forever. Accepting his friendship is a matter of the heart; it is what constitutes us as persons in the fullest sense of that word.

to be pondered by all who love him. His goodness stands firm for ever.
The Lord is compassion and love. His precepts are for all peoples and all
times.
He is to be honored by all nations. To love and honor the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom.
Dear Lord, please help me to
love and honor you every day

Revelation
1.9-17: I, John, share your sufferings. I was on the
island of Patmos, imprisoned for having preached about Jesus. One Sunday the
Spirit possessed me. I heard a
voice shouting
"Write down all you see, and send it to the seven churches of
Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea".
I turned to see who had spoken to me, and I
saw Jesus,
full of glory. His face was like the sun shining with all its force. He said to me "Do not be afraid. It is I,
the First and the Last. I am the Living One"
Jesus, Living One, we praise and adore you,
Lord

Luke
2.15-20: After the angels went away, the shepherds
said to one another
"Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about".
So they quickly went and found Mary and
Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. People who heard the shepherds
talk about the angels were amazed. As for Mary, she treasured every moment of
what had happened
and pondered the whole event in her heart. The shepherds went back to their fields
glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen
Jesus we adore you, Jesus we adore you, Jesus we
adore you, Christ the Lord
