Deuteronomy
32: The Song of Moses:
Listen, O heavens, and I will speak;
let the earth hear the words on my lips.
May my teaching fall like the rain,
my speech descend like the dew,
like rain drops on the young green,
like showers falling on the grass.
For I shall praise the
name of the Lord.
O give glory to this God of ours!
The Rock - his deeds are perfect,
and all his ways are just,
a faithful God, without deceit,
a God who is right and just. Those whom he begot
unblemished
have become crooked, false, perverse.
Is it thus you repay the Lord,
O senseless and foolish people?
Is he not your father who created you,
he who made you, on whom you depend?
Remember the days of
old,
consider the years that are past;
ask you father and he will show you,
ask your elders and they will tell you. When the Most High
gave the nations their heritage
and disposed men according to his plan,
in fixing the boundaries of the nations
he thought first of Israel's sons.
For Israel was the Lord's possession,
Jacob the one he had chosen.
God found him in a
wilderness,
in fearful, desolate wastes;
he surrounded him, he lifted him up,
he kept him as the apple of his eye. Like an eagle that
watches its nest,
that hovers over its young,
so he spread his wings; he took him,
placed him on his outstretched wings.
The Lord alone was his guide
and no other god was with him.
Dear
Lord, thank you for life and all your love and care

Psalms
9-13: I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart.
You have so often rescued me from trouble. Thank you! You are the best helper for people in trouble.
Please keep on helping me when troubles come. Please stop bad people from hurting others.
Please let peoples in all countries know they must avoid evil and live a
life of justice.
Dear Lord, thank you for
so often rescuing me

Acts 4.23-31: When Peter and John were released, they went
to a gathering of apostles and friends and told them everything that had
happened. The group then prayed "Master, it is you
who made heaven and earth and sea. Please protect us from leaders who
threaten us. Help us to proclaim your message with great
boldness. Bless
us to heal and work miracles through the name of your holy servant
Jesus". As they prayed, the building rocked. They were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God
boldly
Jesus, by the grace of your Holy Spirit,
please help me to proclaim your message boldly
Listen

Luke
10.17-24: The 72 came back rejoicing. "Lord",
they said, "even the devils submit to us when we use your name".
Jesus replied "Yes, I have given
you power to tread underfoot the whole strength of the enemy. Yet do not rejoice that the spirits submit to
you. Rejoice rather that your names are written in heaven. Blessed are the eyes that see what you
see.
For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see,
and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it"
Jesus, thank you for the gift of faith

Mon Jan 27
Yesterday morning when I got to St Paul's parish around 7am as usual to prepare
for 7.30am Mass, I discovered that I had forgotten to bring my Mass folder (with
prayers, Gospel etc in Romanised Chinese). Thanks to the gift of 2 good legs I
was able to go back to the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple St and return to the church
with my folder ... with 5 mins to spare. Excuse: Before leaving the centre
around 6.45 I had been distracted by the thought of a good friend in nearby
Queen Elizabeth Hospital who I planned to visit after Mass (and did visit)

Deuteronomy
31: Moses said to the
people:
"I am 120 years old and can no longer come and go as I will.
The Lord has told me I will not cross the Jordan."
Moses then said to Joshua in the presence of all the people:
"Be strong, stand firm. you are going with this people
into the land promised by the Lord.
The Lord himself will lead you; he will be with you;
he will not fail you or desert you.
Have no fear; do not be disheartened by anything."
Dear
Lord, please help me remember that you are with me every day. Please don't let anything or anyone dishearten me

Psalm 8:
How great is your name, O Lord our God,
through all the earth. When I see the
heavens, the work of your
hands,
the moon and stars which you have arranged,
then I stop and think:
what are we insignificant humans that you should care about us? Yet you have put us in charge of the world.
Everything is subject to our control.
How great is your name, O Lord
our God, through all the earth

Acts 4.13-22: The religious leaders were astonished that
two uneducated men like Peter and John could speak so confidently. The
leaders also realized that a miracle had taken place: the crippled man was
standing next to Peter and John. The leaders gave Peter and John a formal legal
warning not to speak in future about Jesus.
Peter and John replied "Which is right? To obey you, or obey God? We
cannot stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard". The leaders released the two apostles. They
were afraid to punish them since all the people were giving glory to God
for the miracle that had happened
Jesus, please help me obey you always
Listen

Luke
10.1-9: Jesus appointed 72 disciples to go ahead of
him in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them "The harvest is rich, but
the laborers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to
his harvest. When you go into a town, cure those in it who
are sick, and say: 'The kingdom of God is very near to you' "
Jesus, please inspire more people to make the

Nehemiah
7-13: The wall of
Jerusalem was finally rebuilt and doors were set in place in the wall. In the
seventh month of the lunar calendar Nehemiah
assembled all the people and read to them the Book of the Law of Moses.
This was the first time that most of the people had heard the words of Moses'
Book. The people were grateful to God and praised him with great happiness. The
people also promised God that they would serve him more faithfully in the
future. But while Nehemiah was away on a visit to the king the people and
leaders became careless about the Law. When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem
he brought the people back to proper observance of the Law
Dear God, may we find joy and strength in reading the Bible and may the world
have more good leaders like Nehemiah
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
19: The heavens proclaim the
glory of God, the starry skies are the work of his hands. The stars can't speak,
but they are God's handwriting. The sun is God's love shining on the whole
world. The universe is a masterpiece, and so is God's law which shines in
our hearts. The
precepts of the Lord enlighten our
lives each day. The law of the Lord gives joy and wisdom to our hearts.
The decrees of the Lord are to be desired more than gold, they are sweeter than
honey, than honey from the comb. But often we are unaware of our
errors. Lord, please protect us from making mistakes.
Lord, may the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be
pleasing to you

Corinthians 12.12-30: A
human body is made of many parts: arms, legs, muscles, eyes etc. Every part is
important and needed for the body to be healthy. The church is like a body. We
are the body's members. Some of us are apostles, some prophets, some teachers
etc. The members of the church must care about every member of the church.
Everyone is important. The
spiritual health of each member affects the health of the whole body
Jesus, help me understand how your church is like a human body

Luke
1.1-4: Dear
Friend of God, there are already many reports written about Jesus.
These reports come from people who were the earliest eyewitnesses and
ministers of the Good News. After checking the whole story, I also have decided
to write a report, so that you may see for yourself the
truth and accuracy of the Good News.
Jesus, help me understand your Good News

Reflection on the above readings: Today we speak of "fake news". Truth is a casualty when people circulate fake news. The writings of people like Nehemiah and Luke help us know what is true and what is false. 51-52: Pay attention
to me, you peoples. Listen to me, you nations. The islands put their hope in the
Lord. They put their trust in his strength. How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who
proclaims peace and salvation, and tells Zion "Your God is king!"
Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord is redeeming his
people. All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Acts
9.1-19: Paul kept up
his campaign against the Lord's disciples. He got the ok to arrest followers of
the Way in Damascus. But on his way to Damascus, a light from heaven surrounded
him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying "Paul, Paul, why are
you persecuting me?" He said "Who are you, Lord?" The voice
replied "I am Jesus, and
you are persecuting me. Go into Damascus and you will be told what to
do". Paul's eyes were open, but for more than a day he was without his
sight, and he ate and drank nothing. The Lord got Ananias, a disciple in
Damascus, to visit Paul and pray for him. The Lord said to Ananias "Paul
is my chosen instrument to bring my name to non-Jews and Jews. He will suffer
much for me". Ananias went to Paul and prayed for him
with the laying on of hands. Straight away, Paul could see again. Then Ananias
baptized him.
Jesus, please help me understand how
unkindness to others is unkindness to you

Mark
16.9-20: After he
rose from the dead, Jesus appeared first to Mary of Magdala, from whom he had
cast out 7 devils. Next he appeared to two of his disciples while they
were on a journey. Then he appeared to the 11 apostles. He said to them "Go
everywhere in the world. Proclaim the Good News to all creation. Anyone who
believes and is baptized, will be saved. Anyone who refuses to believe, will be
condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my
name they
will cast out devils, they
will have the gift of tongues, they
will pick up snakes in their hands, they will be unharmed if they drink
poison, they will lay their
hands on the sick, who will be healed". And so, the Lord Jesus,
after he had spoken to them, was taken up to heaven, while they, going out,
preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming their message by
the miracles that accompanied the message
Lord Jesus, may more and more people all over the world believe in you

Sao Paulo in Brazil, then to Addis, then to HK!
Thank you for a final prayer for the trip. God bless all who made the trip possible!

Deuteronomy 26:
Moses' teaching: "When you enter
the land the Lord your God is giving you,
you must take the first-fruits of your produce
to the priest then in office and say
'Today I declare to the Lord my God
that I have come to the land
the Lord swore to our fathers he would give us.'
After the priest receives your offering, you must declare:
'My father was a wandering Aramaean.
He went down to Egypt to find refuge there, few in number.
But then he became a nation, great and strong.
The Egyptians ill-treated us, they gave us no peace
and inflicted harsh slavery on us.
But we called on the Lord our God who heard our voice
and saw our misery, toil and oppression.
The Lord our God then brought us out of Egypt
with mighty hand and outstretched arm, with signs and wonders.
He brought us here and gave us this land,
a land where milk and honey flow.
So I now bring the first-fruits of my produce
that you, Lord, have given me'.
You are then to share these gifts with your household and with the Levite and stranger who live among you."
Dear
Lord, help me to show gratitude for all your gifts,

us to be here!" Then a bright cloud covered them with its
shadow.
From the cloud came a voice:
"This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him".
When the voice had finished speaking, the disciples saw only Jesus in his
normal appearance
