Yesterday I was at Lai Chi Kok men's prison from 10.30am to
5.30pm .... and ran out of time to see all the men I wanted to see. Will have to
wait till next time. As usual I was sad to meet new drug mules, local and
overseas ... some of them tricked by Facebook "fast money job"

Samuel 12: The Lord sent the prophet Nathan to David.
Nathan said: "Why did you do what is displeasing to the Lord?"
David replied: "I have sinned against the
Lord." Nathan said: "The Lord forgives you, but
because of your sin,
the child will die." After the child died, Bathsheba conceived
another son by David,
whom she named Solomon. The Lord specially blessed Solomon.
"Have mercy on me, God, in
your kindness. In your compassion blot out my offence" (David's
prayer in Psalm 51)
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
103: My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name. My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings. It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills. It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life. The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy. As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who love him. As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins. As a father has compassion on his
children,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him. Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word. Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and
everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!
Thank you, Lord, for your love
and compassion

Acts 27.39-44: The next day they could see land: a bay with a beach. They tried to reach the beach, but the ship ran aground on a

stop them from escaping, but Julius would not allow this.
Some people swam. Some used pieces of wreckage. All of them got to shore
safely

Yesterday's
presentation was quite near the US Consulate, and if I hadn't had another
appointment I was tempted to make another protest at the Consulate - like previous
ones. In fact, as I hear daily reports about Israel's use of starvation in
Gaza, I pray that manna and quail might come from Heaven, as happened for the
Israelites when they were in the desert for 40 years!

Samuel 10-11:
The Ammonites went to war with the
Israelites,
but David led the Israelites to victory.
During a further war with the Ammonites,
David stayed in Jerusalem and did not go to the battle. While in Jerusalem, he made love to Bathsheba
the wife of Uriah
who conceived and sent word to David, "I am with child." David recalled Uriah to Jerusalem
and tried to get him to sleep with his wife. But Uriah loyally observed the custom of the
time
and refrained from marital relations since he was a soldier at war. David then arranged for Uriah to be killed in
battle
by having him stationed in a defenceless position. After a time of mourning for
Uriah,
Bathsheba became David's wife and bore him a son. The Lord was displeased with David.
Dear God, help us not to
displease you

Psalm
102: O Lord, listen to my
prayer in my distress.
Do not hide your face from me. For my days are
vanishing like smoke,
my bones burn away like a fire. I forget to eat my
bread.
My skin clings to my bones. All day long my foes
revile me.
Those who hate me use my name as a curse. But you, O Lord, will
endure for ever.
You will arise and have mercy on Sion. You will hear the
groans of the prisoners
and free those condemned to die. I pray to you: "Do
not take me away before my time has come,
you whose days last from age to age.
Lord, please help people who
are in great distress

Acts 27.21-37: Paul then spoke to everyone: Don't despair.
There will be no loss of life. Last night an angel of God said to me:
"Do not be afraid, Paul. You are destined to go to Rome. Therefore
God grants you the safety of all who are sailing with you". On the 14th day,
Paul took some bread, gave
thanks to God in front of them all, broke it and gave it to everyone
to eat. This gave them courage. There were 276 of them on the ship

8: 12, 31, 32: Jesus said to the people "I am the light

disciples.
You will learn the truth, and the truth will set you free"

126: When the Lord delivered Zion
from bondage, it seemed like a dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs. What marvels the Lord worked for us. Indeed we

3.7-11: Because
of Christ, I have come to consider all my former advantages as a scholar as
disadvantages. Nothing is more important than knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For
him I have accepted the loss of everything, and I look on everything as so much
rubbish if only I can have Christ. All I want is to know Christ and the power of
his resurrection. I want to share his sufferings by carrying the Cross with him.
This is the way I can hope to receive eternal life.

John
8.1-11: While Jesus was
teaching in the Temple, the religious leaders brought to him a women who had
been caught committing adultery. The leaders said to Jesus "According to
the Law of Moses, this woman should be stoned to death. What do you say?"
They said this to test him, looking for something to use against him. Jesus bent
down and started writing on the ground with his finger. Since they kept up their
questioning, he looked up and said to them "If
there is one of you who has not sinned, let him be the first to cast a stone".
Then he kept writing on the ground. The leaders went away, beginning with the
eldest, until Jesus was left alone with the woman. Jesus said to her
"Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? "No one, sir",
she replied. "Neither do I condemn you", said Jesus. "Go and
don't sin any more"
Jesus, what did you write on the ground? The leaders' sins? "If you, O
Lord, should write a record of our sins, who could claim innocence?" (Psalm
130)

2 Samuel 7:
After David settled into his palace and the
land enjoyed peace,
David thought about building a temple for the Lord.
Then through the prophet Nathan the Lord told David:
" I will establish your dynasty for ever.

who will build a temple for me."
David praised God:
"Who am I, Lord, and what is my House,

"Are you willing to go to Jerusalem for a trial with the full council

He has shown his justice to the nations.
He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the
salvation of our God.
Shout to the Lord all the earth, ring out your joy. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp,
with the sound of music. Let the sea, the world and all peoples

Way, which they malign as a sect,
I serve and worship the very same God worshipped by our ancestors. I live
in hope that God will raise the dead. If that's my crime, my accusers are

5.17-30: Jesus said to the religious leaders "My

leave their graves at the sound of the Son's voice. Those who did good,
will rise again to life. Those who did evil, will face condemnation".
