Sat July 12
Yesterday morning at Shatin Court a MercyHK case worker secured the
release from prison on bail of a woman who had been in Tai Lam prison. And
yesterday morning at the
High Court I was the only non-legal person in the court, apart from prison
staff, for the sentencing of a man from South America. A kind judge gave the man
several months reduction for taking part in my anti-drug campaign. While at the
High Court I submitted a bail application for another woman in Tai Lam ...and
the case will be heard on July 22.
On my return to Jordan I came across a man from
Mainland China who had just had a seizure and had fallen on the footpath.
A local Pakistani man helped him and an ambulance came within 5 minutes! HK is
one of the best places in the world for the speed with which ambulance, police
and firemen arrive when called for help

Yesterday at the High Court when I was submitting a
new bail application and waiting for a hearing date, a Mainland Chinese couple
came to the Registry Office area with their 3 beautiful daughters all dressed in
yellow - triplets, aged about 7 or 8. I can't remember the last time I saw
triplets!

Yesterday I was at Lai Chi Kok men's prison from about
10am to 5pm .... able to get there and back in light rain ....and safely
inside under cover as storms poured down rain during the day

report I discussed with a MercyHK colleague the need for hospices for the
dying and that maybe MercyHK can help run one

7.36-50: A religious leader invited Jesus for a meal.
A woman who had a bad name heard that Jesus was at the leader's home.
She entered the house and knelt behind Jesus, crying. Her tears fell on
Jesus' feet and she wiped them away with her hair. She covered his feet
with kisses, and put ointment on them.
The leader was thinking "If Jesus is a prophet, he would know what
sort of woman is now touching him". So Jesus said to the leader "I
came into your house and you did not follow the custom of pouring water on
my feet. But this woman has poured out her tears on my feet. You gave me no welcoming kiss, but she has
been covering my feet with kisses. You gave me no welcoming oil on my
head, but she has anointed my feet. And I tell you that her sins must have been
forgiven, or she would not have shown such great love. People who are forgiven little,
show little love"

Thu July 10
Thanks to a
kind benefactor who belongs to our Saturday afternoon Mass for cancer patients,
yesterday a most energetic renovation team made some major changes to the Dr
Jesus Centre in Temple Street: a fan system to make breathing healthier (that's
putting it simply!), interior insulation for the roof of our prayer room, and
improvements to the lighting. Work to continue today. God bless the kind
benefactor and the renovation team!
Yesterday
afternoon I joined MercyHK volunteer Shirley Lee and one of her helpers for a
visit to two nursing homes not far from the Dr Jesus Centre. In each home there
are about 10 people, mainly men, who used to sleep on the street ... until
Shirley with strong faith in Jesus and great patience encouraged them to move into a room at
a
nursing home. Shirley has also helped others move to other nursing homes. A most
beautiful ministry motivated by Jesus. c.f. this

Judith 13:
When the banquet was over at a late hour,
Judith was alone with Holofernes in his tent.
Holofernes lay drunk on his bed.
After praying to God for strength,
Judith used Holofernes' sword to cut off his head. She went outside
and gave the head to her maid. Her maid put the head in her bag. Judith and her
maid then left the camp as they usually did when they went to pray early in the morning.They went straight to Bethulia and showed
Holofernes' head to the people. The people were overcome with joy
and praised God for what he had done by the hand of a woman.

cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is
proclaimed to the poor". Jesus then spoke to the people about John:
"Everyone who accepted baptism from John acknowledged God's plan. But
by refusing baptism from him, the religious leaders thwarted what God had
in mind for them"

thwart your plan for my life

Israel's Prime Minister, a war criminal according to the
International Court of Justice, is nominating Donald Trump (who is complicit in
Israel's genocide in Gaza) for the Nobel Peace Prize. Nobel Genocide
Prize, yes. Nobel War Criminal Prize, yes. But not Peace Prize. I am sure that
Norway's Nobel Committee will be horrified by this nomination. Maybe they will
give the prize to someone who has been trying to stop the genocide ....like the
medical teams and media teams in Gaza!

Judith 12:
Holofernes allowed Judith and her maid to
stay in a special tent each night, and each morning to go to a spring near
Bethulia to wash and pray.
After 3 days, Holofernes held a banquet for his staff.
He invited Judith to the banquet with the aim of seducing her. Holofernes was so captivated by Judith's
beauty
that he kept on drinking wine until he was drunk. All the while Judith kept praying to God for
strength and help.
Dear God, please give me
a bit more of Judith's faith and courage

she was a widow. When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her.
"Do not cry" he said. Then he said "Young man, I tell you
to get up". The dead man sat up and began to talk, and
Jesus gave him to his mother. Everyone was filled with awe and praised God
saying "A great prophet has appeared among us. God has visited his
people"

dead people will come back to life - you who once told your disciples
"to raise the dead"

Reflection on the above readings: Jesus did not like funerals ...he spoilt every funeral he went to ... including his own!

Last night about a dozen men attended the usual Tuesday
night activity at the Dr Jesus Centre for Nepal drug addicts. One of them
brought a small dog which he tied up at the top of the stairs from the footpath
...where a bowl of water was provided and gratefully accepted.
