Hello again from Iona College in Brisbane ....where yesterday
morning at nearby Wynnum North I met up with some dear cousins for the first
time in 10 years .... and discovered that one of them is a cousin of one of the
Oblates at Iona ...meaning that O.M.I. and I also are cousins! I then had lunch
with the son of a special friend in HK ....son runs a "have
everything" shop - "Dollar Corner" at 372 Logan Road, Stones
Corner, Brisbane. I hope that Brisbane friends can please visit the shop. I am
due to return to HK, Pls God, on 18/9
US-sponsored Israeli
genocide in Gaza: How
to burst the Israeli buble
Yesterday at a bus stop I saw another advertising sign of Allianz, one of the world's largest insurance companies, which according to Wikipedia, supported Hitler's genocide of the Jewish people in World War 2, and which, according to this article, is now supporting Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people!

Proverbs
19-22: Where reflection is
wanting, zeal is not good. People who go too quickly miss their way. Whoever
is kind to the poor is kind to the Lord.
The Lord will repay such kindness. Children at play show what sort of people
they will be in the future. Better the corner of a loft to live in than a house
shared with a scolding spouse. Better to live on a desert land than with a
scolding and irritable spouse. Instruct children in goodness and justice and
they will always be good adults.
Lord, please help me put into practice the ideas in these words
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
107: (Desert, Detention,
Death, Danger!)
O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His
great love is without end. Let them
say this, those the Lord has helped, people from east and west, north and
south.
Some people wandered in the desert, lost and unable to find their way to safety. In their hunger and thirst they cried to the Lord for help. He rescued them and showed them the way to safety. Let them thank the Lord for his love, for he fills the hungry with good things
Some people were prisoners in misery and chains, living in darkness and gloom. In their distress they cried to the Lord for help. He rescued them and restored their freedom. Let them thank the Lord for his goodness, for he shatters the iron bars of prisons.
Some people were sick on account of their sins, unable to eat, and close to death. They cried to the Lord in their need. He healed them and saved them from the grave. Let them thank the Lord for his love, for the wonders he does for us.
Some people sailed to the sea in
ships and were caught in terrifying
storms. They cried to the Lord in their need and he calmed the sea and
wind. Let them thank the Lord for his love, for the wonders he does for us.
Whoever is wise should meditate on these things and reflect on the love of the
Lord.
Thank you Lord, for your rescuing love

Colossians
3.5-11: Kill
all the bad things that trouble earthly life: fornication, impurity, evil
desires, greed, anger, bad temper, spitefulness, abusive language, dirty talk
and lying. You have deleted your old self, and have downloaded a fresh copy of
the divine image. That image is Christ. He
must be installed in every part of your life

Luke
10.1-9: Jesus appointed 72
disciples to go ahead of him in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself
was to visit. He said to them "The harvest is rich, but the laborers are
few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to his harvest. When
you go into a town, cure those in it who are sick, and say: 'The
kingdom of God is very near to you' "
Jesus, please inspire more people to make the spreading of the Good News
their life's work

Readings for Feast of Mary of
Sorrows (to go with yesterday's Feast of the Cross of Jesus)
Hebrews 5.7-9: During his life on earth, Christ
offered up prayer and entreaty, aloud
and in silent tears, to the one who had the power to save him out of
death, and he submitted so humbly that his prayer was heard. Although he was
Son, he learnt to obey through suffering; but having been made perfect, he
became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation.
My
recording of this reading

Psalm 31: In you, O Lord, I take refuge. Let me never be put to shame. In your justice, set me free, hear me and speedily rescue me. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mighty stronghold to save me, for you are my rock, my stronghold. Into your hands I commend my spirit. It is you who will redeem me, Lord. I trust in you, Lord. You are my God. My life is in your hands, deliver me from the hands of those who hate me.

Luke 2.33-35: As
the child's father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were
being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: "You
see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in
Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected - and
a sword will pierce your own soul too - so that the secret thoughts
of many may be laid bare."
Recording

John
19.25-27: Near
the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother's
sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the
disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, "Woman, this
is your son". Then to the disciple he said, "This is your
mother". And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home

in Brisbane ....a good place to be Sep 14, the Feast of Jesus' Cross.... since Iona's
logo, part of the school uniform, has the Cross and the words "In Hoc
Signo Vinces" (In this sign you shall conquer). In our troubled world, may
the Cross of Jesus give us courage and hope.
Yesterday afternoon, thanks to one of the Iona Oblates, I was able to visit the
grave of my dear mother and father at Hemmant Cemetery. A special visit, since
yesterday was the 53rd anniversary of Dad's burial, and Oct 5 will be the 20th
anniversary of Mum's burial. May their prayers in Heaven help us all! Pls remind
me to introduce you to them Upstairs! Cemetery

Readings
for Feast of
The Cross
Numbers 21: In
order to avoid the land of Edom, the Israelites headed towards the coastline.
But the people again criticized God and Moses. So God sent snakes among the
people, and many people died. The people then said to Moses "We have
sinned; please pray for us to save us". Moses prayed for them, and God
heard his prayer. God told Moses to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole. Anyone
bitten by a snake could then look at the bronze snake and live.
Jesus' words (John 3.13): "The
Son of Man must be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so
that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him".
Recording

Psalm
78: May future generations
not be like our ancestors who so often were unfaithful to God. Even though our
ancestors had seen God part the sea, even though they had seen him provide food
and water for them in
the desert, still they went on sinning. Yet he who is full of compassion
forgave and spared them. He remembered they were only weak humans. Eventually he
brought them to the promised land and gave a home to each of Israel's tribes.
But still they sinned by building mountain shrines and serving idols. Then God
raised up David to be their leader. God called him from looking after sheep to
be the shepherd of his people.
Lord, help us not to forget all you have done for us
Recording

Philippians
2.6-11: His state
was divine, yet Christ Jesus did not cling to his equality with God, but
emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave and
became as humans are. And being as all humans are, he was humbler yet, even to
accepting death, death
on a cross. But God raised him high, and gave him the name which is
above all other names, so that all beings in the heavens, on earth and in the
underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus, and that every tongue
should acclaim Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Recording (song: The
Philippians Hymn)

John
3.13-17: Jesus said
to Nicodemus: "No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down
from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven; and the
Son of Man must be lifted up, as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him". Yes, God
loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life. For God sent his
Son into the world not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world
might be saved.
Jesus, only Son of God the Father,
thank you for coming into this world. Please help more and more people believe
in you

Proverbs 16:
A person proposes, God disposes. Ask
the Lord to bless all your plans. Kindness and loyalty make up for sin. Love of
the Lord brings avoidance of evil. If the Lord is pleased with your way of life,
he will cause your enemies to become your friends. Pride goes before
destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. A
troublemaker sows strife. A talebearer separates friends. Better to be a

Psalm
104: Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord God, how great you are. You make the clouds your chariot. You walk on the
wings of the wind. You make springs gush forth in the valleys. They give drink
to all the animals of the field. You make grass grow for the cattle and plants
to provide food for people. You give us wine to cheer our hearts and oil to
make our faces shine. You made the moon to mark the months. The sun knows the
time for its setting. How many are your works, O Lord. In wisdom you have made
them all. The earth is full of your riches and the sea is swarming with life.
All things, great and small, look to you for food. You open your hand, they have
their fill. You send forth your spirit, and life is created. You renew the face
of the earth. I will sing to the Lord
all my life. May my thoughts be pleasing to him.

Matthew 18.21-35: Peter

Jesus answered "Not 7, but 77 times. For the kingdom of heaven is like a

refused to cancel the tiny debt of one of his fellow servants. So the king said
to the servant: 'When you appealed to me, I had pity on you and cancelled your
big debt. But you refused to have pity on your fellow servant who asked
you for mercy. Therefore you must now go to prison until your big debt is paid.'

Proverbs 15: A
mild answer diffuses a tense situation. A sharp answer stirs up anger. A kind
tongue is a source of life. A harsh
tongue hurts other people's feelings. A happy heart produces a cheerul
face. A sad heart means a drooping spirit. Hot-headed people provoke disputes.
Peaceful people prevent disputes. Without deliberation, plans come to nothing.
Successful plans need many counselors. A kindly glance gives joy to the heart.
Good news gives strength to the bones.

Psalm
103: My soul, give thanks to the
Lord. All my being, bless his holy name. My soul, give thanks to the Lord and
never forget all his blessings. It is he who forgives all your guilt, who heals
every one of your ills. It is he who fills your life with good things, renewing
your youth like an eagle's life. The Lord is compassion and love, slow to anger
and rich in mercy. As the heavens are high above the earth so strong is his love
for those who love him. As far as the
East is from the West, so far does he remove our sins. As a father has
compassion on his children, the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him.
Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels, who heed the voice of his word. Give
thanks to the Lord, everyone and everything. My soul, give thanks to the
Lord!
Thank you, Lord, for your love and compassion
