Aug 20 Vatican II called for the laity to be given more responsibility.
But for some clergy, this is a threat.  Oblate founder Eugene de Mazenod saw the laity not as a threat 
but as partners in spreading the love of the Gospel:

A few weeks ago I was in contact with someone affected by Anxiety Attacks, someone who needed a place to go for an understanding chat during the day. I could not find such a place. But yesterday I met people from Joyful Mental Health (holding a fund raising function). JMH will help AA people

and death. This second tradition stands in critical tension with the social-constructive tradition and, historically, expressed itself in various forms of care, compassion, and solidarity with those in prison.

After our letter to the Tablet on June 2nd,  we had a meeting for priests and deacons 
to which seventy or so came along and we have now arranged
A MEETING AT HEYTHROP ON  OCTOBER 10  FOR  PEOPLE AND PRIESTS,
to discuss the issues raised in our letter and to try to find a way forward.
Our hope is to be a voice in which our bishops will be able to hear 
our fears and  hopes for the future of our church
