Tues Nov 23
Yesterday morning I went to my usual local doctor for annual check-up and for annual flu shot. Then to nearby Print Shop to order 15th (!) printing of Dr Jesus (Chinese edition). Then to bank to make a deposit to shop in Sham Shui Po for more small crosses to which homeless people then add a string (.. a little part-time work ...) so that crosses can be worn around neck ... for distribution to various groups as a protection against Covid-19.

Judges
4: After Ehud died, the
Israelites again began to stray from the Lord
and therefore again lost their freedom and peace. The Lord then used Deborah,
who was a judge and prophetess, to rescue the people. Deborah instructed Barak son
of Abinoam
to go and do battle with Sisera, the people's oppressor. Barak said he would go only if
Deborah went with him.
She agreed but then said that his hesitation would cause the Lord to give battle victory to a woman, not
Barak. When Barak's forces
routed those of Sisera,
Sisera fled and took refuge in the tent of Jael, wife of Heber. As Sisera slept from
exhaustion,
Jael drove a tent peg into his head and he died. So once again the Lord had
rescued the Israelites.
Dear God,
please give me more courage in the battle of life,

Psalm
99: The Lord is king. He is great in
Sion.
His power is seen throughout the world. Among his priests were Aaron, Moses and
Samuel.
They prayed to the Lord and he answered their call. Let peoples everywhere praise his
name.
He is holy, full of power.
Lord, may all peoples
know and love you

Corinthians 15.9-11:
I am the least of the apostles. In fact, since
I persecuted the Church of God, I hardly deserve the name apostle. But by God's grace I am what I
am, and the
grace that he gave me has not been fruitless. On the contrary, I, or rather the grace of God
in my heart, have worked harder than any of the others, preaching the
same message that they preach
Jesus, may your grace in me be more fruitful

John
14.8-21:
At the meal, Jesus said to his disciples
"To have seen me, is to have seen the Father. I am in the Father, and
the Father is in me. Whatever you ask for in my name, I will do it,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you love me, you
will keep my commandments. I will ask the Father and he will give you
another Friend to be always with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth
who will be living in your heart. If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and
my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make our home in his
heart"

After Mass at St Paul's Yau Ma Tei yesterday morning, I attended a meeting with someone whose mother recently went home to Heaven. Then I joined a Parish Basic Group for their monthly lunch meeting. Then I met with 2 groups - one from Kowloon Wah Yan College, the other from St Peter & Paul's Parish, Yuen Long - for a visit to MercyHK's second hand shop in Temple Street and a sharing at the next door Dr Jesus Centre .... followed by a tour of the district which included visits to the rooms of some homeless people for whom MercyHK has provided accommodation at the Alhambra Building in YMT. Finally I joined the usual Sunday night prison group at the Dr Jesus Centre for their gathering ... at which we farewelled Deva who is due to return to Malaysia tomorrow after being acquitted by a High Court jury.

Judges
3: Some of the Israelites
forgot the Lord their God
and worshipped false gods. As a result, they were
enslaved by the king of Edom for 8 years. They cried to God for
help
and God raised up Othniel, a nephew of Caleb,
to lead and rescue them. Then the land enjoyed
peace for 40 years. But when Othniel died,
the Israelites again began to do what displeases the Lord,
and were again enslaved, this time by Eglon king of Moab,
for 18 years. Once more they cried to
the Lord for help
and he raised up Ehud, a left-hander. As Ehud presented
tribute to Eglon,
he said to Eglon:
"I have a secret message for you".
When they were alone, Eglon thought he was safe,
because Ehud's knife was on his right thigh.
Ehud then used his left-hand to grab the knife unexpectedly
and killed Eglon.Ehud escaped from the
king's quarters
before the king's attendants knew Eglon was dead. Ehud then roused the
Israelites to fight and defeat the Moabites,
after which the land enjoyed peace for 80 years

Psalm
98: Sing a new song to the Lord for he has worked
wonders.
His right hand has brought salvation. The Lord has made known his salvation.
He has shown his justice to the nations.
He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the
salvation of our God.
Shout to the Lord all the earth, ring out your joy. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp,
with the sound of music. Let the sea, the world and all peoples
acclaim the King, the Lord. Let the rivers clap their hands
and the hills ring out their joy at the presence of the Lord, for he comes to rule the earth.
He will rule the world with justice
and the peoples with fairness.
Lord,
may all peoples in all countries know your love and goodness

Christ died for our sins. He
was buried.
He was raised to life on the third day.

apostles, then to more than 500 of the believers - most of whom are still

13.37-14.6: At the meal, Peter said to Jesus "I will
lay down my life for you". Jesus
replied "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times. To all of you I say, there are many rooms in
my Father's house.
I am going now to prepare a place for you. I am the Way, the Truth and the

Daniel 7: Once when Daniel was
asleep, he had a vision of heaven: "Thrones were put in
place and one of great age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, his hair
as pure as wool. A thousand thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten
thousand stood before him. Then coming on the clouds of heaven was one like a
son of man. On him was conferred glory and kingship, and
people of all nations became his servants. His kingship is
eternal. His empire will never be destroyed."
Jesus, please help me understand that you are the "Son of Man"
whose kingship is eternal

Psalm
93: The Lord is king, with
majesty enrobed, he has girded himself with power. The world
you made firm, not to be moved. From all eternity, O Lord, you are. The
oceans and coastlines of the world are majestic and powerful. But greater than
the roar of mighty waters, more
glorious than the surging of the sea is the Lord on
high. Such a Lord, such a Creator, such a God. Truly your decrees are to be
trusted. Holiness is fitting to your house O Lord, always and everywhere.
We praise you, Lord, our Creator

John
18.33-37: "Are
you the king of the Jews?" Pilate asked. Jesus replied, "Do you ask
this of your own accord, or have others spoken to you about me?" Pilate
answered, "Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have
handed you over to me: what have you done?" Jesus replied, "Mine is
not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have
fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of
this kind." "So
you are a king then?" said Pilate. "It is you who say it"
answered Jesus. "Yes, I
am a king. I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear
witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my
voice."
Jesus, please help me bear witness to the truth

Judges
1-2: After the death of
Joshua,
the Israelites continued their campaign to occupy all parts of the land of Canaan.
But as time went
on, the Israelites began to forget the Lord their God.
As a result, things went wrong for the Israelites. To help them, the Lord
appointed judges to lead them.
For a while the people followed the judges. But as soon as a judge died,
the people again lapsed into idolatry.

Joshua 23-24:
As Joshua neared the end of his life,
he urged the Israelites to stay faithful to the Lord
while living with many foreign neighbours:
"Continue to observe everything
written by Moses.
Do not mingle with the foreign peoples still among you.
Do not utter the names of their gods. Stay loyal to the Lord your God.
Love the Lord your God. If you stay faithful, the Lord will
bless you.
If you are unfaithful, everything will go wrong for you. Choose today whom you will serve:
the Lord our God, or false gods. As for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord."

Joshua 11-21:
Some kings in the
north combined to fight the Israelites.
But the Lord delivered them into the power of Israel. Eventually the whole
country had rest from war,
and the land was divided up among the 11 tribes. So it was that the Lord
gave the Israelites all the land
he had sworn to give their ancestors.
They took possession of it and settled there.
The Lord granted them peace on all their frontiers
just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Of all the promises
that the Lord had made to the House of Israel,
not one failed. All were fulfilled.

300 metres each round ...sometimes jogging the final part of each round. Then a
shower before breakfast at 8am... for which the exercise gives me a good
appetite!
