Isaiah
51-52: Pay attention
to me, you peoples. Listen to me, you nations. The islands put their hope in the
Lord. They put their trust in his strength. How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who
proclaims peace and salvation, and tells Zion "Your God is king!"
Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord is redeeming his
people. All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Psalm
117: O Praise the Lord, all
you nations. Acclaim him, all you peoples! Strong
is his love for us. He is faithful for ever.
May all the nations love and praise you, Lord
Recording
John
6.1-15(a): Near the
Sea of Galilee, a large crowd followed Jesus, attracted by the way he healed so
many sick people. Jesus climbed a hillside and sat there with his disciples.
Seeing the huge crowd, Jesus said to one of his disciples "How can we
feed so many people?" The disciple Andrew said
"There's a young boy here with 5 loaves and 2 fish. But what good is that
for such a huge crowd?"
Recording
John
6.1-15 (b): Jesus said "Make
the people sit down". The crowd of about 20,000 sat down on the grass. Then
Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and gave them out to all the people. He did
the same with the fish. Everyone
ate as much as they wanted to. The people, seeing this miracle, said
"He really is God's great prophet". Jesus, aware that they wanted to
make him king, slipped away and went up the hill by himself
Jesus, please bless my prayers and actions to help others, just as you
blessed the loaves and fish

Judges
10-11: The
Israelites yet again served false gods,
and once more they were oppressed,
this time by the Ammonites. The
Israelites appealed to Jephthah to help them.
Jephthah was the son of a prostitute.
His brothers had driven him from home
and would not give him a share of their father's inheritance. Jephthah
went into exile and became a famous soldier. Jephthah
agreed to help the Israelites
after they agreed to make him their future leader. Jephthah
tried to reason with the Ammonite king,
but the king refused to negotiate a peace agreement. The spirit
of the Lord then came on Jephthah
and he led the Israelites to victory over the Ammonites.
Dear Lord, may
your spirit give courage to all leaders

Psalm 104:
Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord God, how great you are. You make the clouds your chariot.
You walk on the wings of the wind. You make springs gush forth in the valleys.
They give drink to all the animals of the field. You make grass grow for the cattle
and plants to provide food for people. You give us wine to cheer our hearts
and oil to make our faces shine. You made the moon to mark the months.
The sun knows the time for its setting. How many are your works, O Lord.
In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your riches
and the sea is swarming with life. All things, great and small, look to you for
food.
You open your hand, they have their fill. You send forth your spirit, and life is
created. You renew the face of the earth. I will sing to the Lord all my
life.
May my thoughts be pleasing to him.
Bless the Lord, my soul!

1.19-20: The Son of God, Christ Jesus, was not
sometimes "Yes" and sometimes "No" in his words and
actions. He was always crystal clear "Yes" - you knew exactly
where he stood on every issue. That is why it is "through him" that
we pray and then answer "Amen" (= "yes")

16.7-33: Jesus said to his disciples at the meal "I will leave you soon. After I go, I will send the New Friend to you. The New Friend will teach you all about right and wrong.
The New Friend will help you know the truth about everything.
You are sad now because I am leaving you. But I will see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy. No one will be able to take that joy from you.
I have told you all these things so that you may find peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but be brave: I have conquered the world

Psalms
24-26: The Lord's is the earth
and all its peoples. It is the Lord who is Creator of the universe. May all
hearts open their doors to the Lord. Let him enter, the king of glory. Lord I
hope in you all the day long. Forgive my sins and help

Thessalonians 4.1-11: We
urge you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus to make
more and more progress in the kind of life you are meant to live. God
wants you to be holy. He wants you to keep away from fornication. Live life
peacefully. Get a decent job and earn your living.
Jesus, make me be a better person, a better Christian
Listen

Luke
21.3-38: Jesus said to his
disciples that Jerusalem would be destroyed and its people scattered throughout
the world. He also spoke of how his followers would be persecuted, and of
the end of the world: "The planets will be shaken, nations will be in
agony, bewildered by the force of the oceans. Then
they will see me coming in a cloud with great power and glory. To prepare
for your own end of earthly life, stay faithful to prayer and goodness. Don't
let your heart be coarsened by debauchery, drunkenness and material cares".
In this his final week on earth, Jesus spent the daytime in the Temple,
teaching. From early morning the people would gather round him to listen to him.
Then he would spend the night on the Mount of Olives.
Jesus, help me be faithful to prayer and goodness

Judges
9: Gideon had seventy sons
by his wives and concubines.
One of his sons was Abimelech, son of a concubine. Abimelech became king
after murdering all but one
of his 70 half-brothers.
The half-brother who escaped was Jotham. Abimelech ruled over
Israel for 3 years.
Then God sent a spirit of discord
between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem. The leaders of Shechem
rebelled against Abimelech.
Abimelech started attacking and destroying their towns. Abimelech besieged the
town of Thebez.
The people of the town took refuge in a tower. When Abimelech tried to
set fire to the tower,
a woman in the tower threw down a large rock
which crushed Abimelech's head.
Abimelech got his armor-bearer to kill him with a sword,
so that no one could say he was killed by a woman.
Dear
Lord, please stop evil people from hurting other people

Psalm
103: My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name. My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings. It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills. It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life. The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy. As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who love him. As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins. As a father has compassion on his
children,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him. Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word. Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and
everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!
Thank you, Lord, for your love
and compassion

Judges 7: Gideon prepared to go
to war with the Midianites.
But God told him to reduce his number of soldiers. The army was told
"Let anyone who is frightened or fearful go home". 22,000 men went home;
10,000 stayed. The Lord said
there were still too many.
"So many men might cause Israel to claim that a victory
had nothing to do with the Lord".
So Gideon got the men to go to the river to drink. All those who lapped the water, like a
dog, he put on one side.
These numbered 300. The rest knelt down and used their
hands to drink.
These were sent home. Gideon divided his 300 men into 3
groups, surrounding the Midianite camp. To each man he gave a horn and an empty
water container,
with a torch inside each container. In the middle of the night, they
attacked.
They sounded their horns and smashed their containers,
holding a horn in their right hand and a torch in their left. The Midianites woke in terror,
thinking that the Israelites had a huge number of men. In their panic, the Midianites attacked
each other
as they fled the camp. The Israelites drove the Midianites
from the Israelite homeland.

Judges 4-6: After Sisera's forces
were defeated,
the land enjoyed peace for 40 years But then the Israelites
again lapsed into idolatry,
and so they were oppressed by the Midianites for 7 years. The Lord then raised up
Gideon to rescue the people. Following the Lord's
instructions,
Gideon at night time destroyed the altar to Baal in his father's house.
When the Midianites heard what Gideon had done, they prepared to attack the
Israelites. The spirit of the Lord came on Gideon and he rallied the
Israelites.
Gideon asked for a sign
of success in battle,
and said to the Lord: "See now, I
spread out a fleece of wool on the ground;
tomorrow morning, if there is dew only on the fleece
and not on the surrounding ground,
then I know you will deliver Israel by my hand". And so it happened the
next morning:
the ground was dry but the fleece was drenched with dew. Gideon asked for a
second sign,
requesting that the fleece be dry but the ground covered with dew. And God did what Gideon
asked:
the fleece stayed dry, and there was dew on the ground
