Tues May 30
Yesterday morning at the Dr Jesus Centre in Jordan there was a
most encouraging meeting between MercyHK staff and three social workers from
Caritas ....discussing how to help drug addicts who have graduated from drug
treatment centres.
There is an important article below about link between health and forgiveness (at reflection, after Gospel)

Laudato
Si:103.
Technoscience, when well directed, can
produce important means of improving the quality of human life, from
useful domestic appliances to great transportation systems, bridges, buildings
and public spaces. It can also produce art and enable men and women immersed
in the material world to "leap" into the world of beauty. Who can
deny the beauty of an aircraft or a skyscraper? Valuable works of art and
music now make use of new technologies. So, in the beauty intended by the one
who uses new technical instruments and in the contemplation of such beauty, a
quantum leap occurs, resulting in a fulfilment which is uniquely human.

I am the Lord your God. Do not worship anyone or anything else.

3: Make the Sabbath a holy day each week.
4: Honor your father and your mother.
5: Do not kill.
6: Do not commit adultery.
7: Do not steal.
8: Do not tell lies about other people.
9: Do not lust after someone else's wife.

Happy the person who reads and meditates on God's words. Such a

Matthew
18.21-35:
Peter asked Jesus "How many times must I
forgive someone?
7 times?" Jesus answered "Not 7, but 77 times. For the kingdom of heaven is like a king who
cancelled the huge debt of one of his servants. But that same servant refused to cancel the
tiny debt of one of his fellow servants. So the king said to the servant:
'When you appealed to me, I had pity on you and cancelled your big
debt. But you refused to have pity on your fellow servant who asked
you for mercy. Therefore you must now go to prison until your big debt is
paid.' If you refuse to forgive other people,
you are making yourself ineligible for God's forgiveness."

Si:102.
Humanity has entered a new era in which our technical prowess has brought us
to a crossroads. We are the beneficiaries of two centuries of enormous waves
of change: steam engines, railways, the telegraph, electricity, automobiles,
aeroplanes, chemical industries, modern medicine, information technology and,
more recently, the digital revolution, robotics, biotechnologies and
nanotechnologies. It is right to rejoice in these advances and to be excited
by the immense possibilities which they continue to open up before us, for
"science and technology are wonderful products of a God-given human
creativity". The modification of nature for useful purposes has
distinguished the human family from the beginning; technology itself
"expresses the inner tension that impels man gradually to overcome
material limitations". Technology has remedied countless evils which
used to harm and limit human beings. How
can we not feel gratitude and appreciation for this progress, especially in
the fields of medicine, engineering and communications? How could we
not acknowledge the work of many scientists and engineers who have provided
alternatives to make development sustainable?

Acts
2.1-4: About ten days after
Jesus' ascension to heaven, was the Feast of Pentecost. Jesus'
12 apostles, his mother, several other women, and his brothers were together
in one room. Suddenly
they heard what sounded like a powerful wind. Tongues of fire appeared and
came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy
Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages

Psalm 104: Bless
the Lord, my soul! Lord God, how great you are. You
make the clouds your chariot. You walk on the wings of the wind. You make
springs gush forth in the valleys. They give drink to all the animals of the
field. You make grass grow for the cattle, and plants to provide food for
people. You give us wine to cheer our hearts, and oil to make our faces
shine. You made the moon to mark the months. The sun knows the time for its
setting. How many are your works, O Lord. In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your riches and the sea is swarming with life. All
things, great and small, look to you for food. You open your hand, they have
their fill. You
send forth your spirit, and life is created. You renew the face of the earth. I
will sing to the Lord all my life. May my thoughts be pleasing to him.

Romans
8.14-21: Everyone
moved by the Spirit is a child of God. The Spirit lets us use children's
language to speak to God tenderly as "Abba, Father". Since
we are God's children, we are also his heirs, coheirs with Jesus, sharing his
suffering so as to share his glory. What we suffer in this life can never be
compared with the glorious life we will have in heaven. The whole of creation
looks forward to sharing the same glory, to sharing immortality.

7.37-39: During
the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem, Jesus called out loudly in the
Temple "If anyone is thirsty, come to me. Anyone who believes in me, come

living water". Jesus
was speaking of the Holy Spirit, which people who believed in him were to
receive. The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been
glorified.

reflect on the Holy Spirit:
The dove: At
the end of the flood, whose symbolism refers to Baptism, a dove released
by Noah returns with a fresh olive-tree branch in its beak as a sign that the
earth was again habitable. When
Jesus comes up from the water of his baptism, the Holy Spirit, in the form of
a dove,
comes down upon him and remains with him. The Spirit comes down and remains in
the purified hearts of the baptized. In
some churches, the Eucharist is reserved in a metal receptacle in the form of
a dove (columbarium)
suspended above the altar. Christian
iconography traditionally uses a dove to
suggest the Spirit. - CCC

The

another symbol of the Holy Spirit. It was by the

finger of God," then the "letter
from Christ" entrusted to the care of the apostles, is written "with
the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human
hearts." The hymn Veni Creator

Sing to our God for he is loving. To him our praise is due. The Lord builds up Jerusalem
and brings back Israel's exiles. He heals the
broken-hearted and binds up all their wounds. The Lord raises the lowly
and humbles the wicked. He fixes the number of the stars.
He calls each one by name. Our Lord is great and almighty.
His wisdom can never be measured. He covers the heavens with clouds.
He prepares rain for the earth, making mountains sprout with grass
and with plants to serve our needs. His delight is not in horses

in those who wait for his love.

The hand is
another symbol of the Holy Spirit. Jesus heals the sick and blesses little
children by laying hands on
them. In his name the apostles will do the same. It is by the Apostles'
imposition of hands that
the Holy Spirit is given. The

having the priest at Mass extend his hands over
the bread and wine as he says "Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to
make them holy" CCC

The first woman's name was Eve (meaning "life").
Dear God, please help me understand
how evil in the world
started when Adam and Eve disobeyed you
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
103: My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name. My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings. It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills. It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life. The Lord is compassion and
love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy. As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who love him. As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins. As a father has compassion on his
children,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him. Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word. Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and
everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!
Thank you, Lord, for your love
and compassion

Ephesians
3.14-21: This is what I pray, kneeling before the
Father from whom
every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes it name: May he give you power through his Spirit
for your hidden self to grow strong. May Christ live in your hearts through faith.
Planted in love and built on love, may you
continually focus
on the love of Christ, until your life is filled with that love
Glory be to him whose power working in
us,
can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory be to him from generation to generation
in the Church
and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen

John
19.25-30: Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his
mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. Seeing his mother and John the apostle
standing near her, Jesus said to his mother "He is your son".
Then to John he said "She is your mother". From
that moment, John regarded Mary as his own mother. Jesus said "My work is finished".
Then he bowed his head and died
We adore you Lord Jesus and we
praise you,
because you have redeemed the world
