speaker yesterday afternoon. After the program finishes at lunch on Thursday, I

Corinthians 10.16-11.1: The cup that we bless is a communion with the

woman suffered from Tinnitis.
Whenever she noticed the sound of the Tinnitis ... a sound similar to breaking
waves ... she would remember the words from today's psalm "greater than the
roar of mighty waters is the glory of the Lord" .... and the Tinnitus sound
would soon be forgotten

187: The Doctor Jesus Centre in Jordan had another busy day yesterday: our local district councillor had a meeting with a large number of local residents; then a cheery group from a diocesan society came for a sharing, before visiting some homeless people in the Alhambra Building in Yau Ma Tei; then the usual Sunday night prison group had their get together; followed by late visit by another parish group
During breakfast the past two days I watched The

other peoples of the region formed an alliance to fight against the Israelites.
But the people of Gibeon used another strategy:
they tricked the Israelites into thinking
they were not locals but had come from far away. So the Israelites made
a treaty with them. When the Israelites
realized they had been tricked,
they kept their side of the bargain and did not attack Gibeon. Instead the Gibeonites
became wood-cutters and water-carriers
in the service of the Israelites.

Then I will say to those on my
left
"Go away from me and join Satan and his angels in hell. For I was hungry, and you never
gave me food.
I was thirsty, and you never gave me anything to drink.
I was a stranger, and you never made me welcome,
naked, and you never clothed me,
sick and in prison, and you never visited me". Those on my left will then ask
"Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked,
sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?" I will answer
"Each time you refused to help and care for a poor person,
you refused to help and care for me".
Those on the left will then go to
eternal punishment.
Those on the right will go to eternal life.
Jesus, please help me do more for poor people.
Make me understand that when I help a poor person, I help you

Famous HK actress Maggie Cheung Ho Yee yesterday visited the Dr Jesus Centre in Temple Street, Jordan .... while having a break from filming a movie being made in Temple Street ... just in time to join a group of mothers who work in Temple Street for their usual visit to centre's prayer room after their usual Friday lunch at the centre
Then a wonderful team of students from Marymount Secondary School joined our regular group of homeless people for the usual Friday afternoon gathering at the Dr Jesus Centre .... after which the Marymount team visited some of the homeless people in rooms provided for them at the nearby Alhambra Centre by MercyHK.
During breakfast the past two days I watched The

8: Once again the
Israelites attacked the town of Ai,
this time with a special strategy: 5,000 men
went by night to the back of the town and hid themselves in the nearby hills.
In the morning Joshua and the rest of the people
marched towards the front of Ai. When the
king of Ai saw them coming, he led his people out for battle. In chasing
the Israelites,
the king of Ai left his town undefended. Then the
5,000 Israelites attacked
Ai from the rear and set it on fire.
When the men of Ai looked back and saw their town on fire,
they realized they were caught in a trap. The
Israelites easily won the battle
and captured Ai.

and the money given to the poor?" He said this not because he cared about
the poor, but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the moneybag and would
steal from it. Jesus replied "Leave her alone. She is anticipating and
honoring my burial. Besides, the poor will always be with you. But I will soon
be gone"

during the making of a movie. Some shots were fired in the morning while I was
on phone for call with lawyer (to help a prisoner). Lawyer said "is that
gun fire?" To which I nonchalantly replied "Yes, this is Temple
Street" ....before explaining that a movie was being made!

Joshua 7: The Lord had told the
Israelites not to keep anything for themselves
when they captured Jericho. But one man disobeyed
the Lord
and secretly kept some of the spoils. As a result of that
man's disobedience,
the Israelites were defeated in battle when they attacked the town of Ai.
The disobedient
man's identity was found by drawing of the lot: of the 12 tribes, one was chosen, the tribe of
Judah; of the tribe of Judah, one clan was chosen, that of Zerah; of the families of
Zerah, one was chosen, that of Zabdi; of the men of Zabdi, one was chosen, Achan.
Achan admitted his
guilt.
He and his whole family were then stoned to death
and a great cairn built over them.
All of Achan's possessions were burnt.

destroyed". These words had more meaning than the leader
realized, since Jesus was to die not just for the nation, but for the
whole world. Since the leaders wanted to kill him, Jesus
went to a remote area near the desert, and stayed there with his disciples

Yesterday one of HK's most famous actors Aaron Kwok was outside MercyHK's second hand shop in Temple Street, Jordan, for the making of a movie ... for which a shop opposite MercyHK's shop has been rented ....with filming due to continue today, tomorrow and Monday.
And while the movie was being made downstairs, upstairs on the mezanine floor that is the Dr Jesus Centre, 16 very special people attended our weekly gathering for drug addicts, four of whom sleep "on the street"

103 years ago today, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, World War 1 officially ended, after a conflict that involved 65 million men in battle, left nearly 10 million killed, 21 million wounded, nearly seven million civilian deaths. May the Good Lord help our world avoid war
Not forgetting that the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War 1 was a major cause of World War 2 (because it treated Germany so harshly) and was the reason for China's young leaders turning away from the West and turning to Marxism/Russia (because China also was treated so badly - see May 4 Movement)

John 11.1-44: Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha lived
in the village of Bethany. When Lazarus became very sick, the sisters sent

Lazarus was dead and buried for 4 days. Martha said to Jesus "If you had been
here, my brother would not have died". Jesus replied "I am the resurrection and
the life. If anyone believes in me, he will have life after death". Jesus said to Mary and Martha "Where have
you put him?" Jesus cried as he went to the tomb. The tomb was a
cave with a stone at the entrance. Jesus said "Take the stone away".
Then he called out in a loud voice "Lazarus, come out!"
The dead man came out, wrapped in burial

pleased to notice that there were no new drug mules from overseas.

dried up the Jordan's waters
to let the Israelites cross over.
The kings became very afraid of the Israelites. At
Gilgal near the
Jordan
the Lord instructed Joshua
that all un-circumcised men should be circumcised. It was at Gilgal that
the Israelites kept the Passover Feast
and tasted the produce of the land.

the manna stopped falling.

Corinthians 3.5-15: Apollos and I are servants who brought the
faith to you. I did the planting, Apollos did the watering, but God made
things grow. You are God's building. By God's grace,
I laid the foundation, the only foundation there can be: Jesus
Christ. On that foundation you can build a house with
good or poor materials.
At the end of your life, your building will be judged by God
Jesus, you are the foundation of my life. Help
me build a house with good material (= good deeds)

When Jesus was walking in the Temple, some
religious leaders said to him "If you are the Christ, tell us
plainly". Jesus replied "I have told you, but you
do not believe me. The miracles I do in my Father's name also witness to
who I am. The Father and I are one". The leaders picked up stones to stone Jesus
and said "We will stone you for blasphemy. You are only a man
and you claim to be God". Jesus replied "If I am not doing my
Father's work, then do not believe me. But if am doing my Father's
work, you must know that the Father and I are one. He is in me and I
am in him"
Jesus, please help more people believe that
you are the Son of God

Reflection on the above readings: Herod tried to kill the baby Jesus, the people of Nazareth tried to thrown Jesus down the cliff, at least twice Jesus was threatened with stoning .... yet Jesus kept going!
