Francis recognises the People of God as the real magisterium of the church, not the “magisterium of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him” as stated in the Encyclical Letter Lumen Fidei This emphasis on the importance of “all the faithful” leaves the way open for the laity to become much more involved in all areas of the church, especially in areas they are currently restricted from, such as synods |

challenges us to take dusty paths to new frontiers After the team discovered just how poor their neighbors were, one Jesuit remembers Bergoglio saying something like, "We can't just sit around here with our arms crossed while we have everything and those people don't even have enough food to eat." Francis
wishes to release Vatican II's bold vision from captivity
Over the past five decades, we have been tantalized by empty allusions to Vatican II that too often masked halfhearted efforts to give the council's teaching robust historical form. Francis wishes to release the council's bold ecclesial vision and deep-seated Gospel values from decades of captivity. It has been a long time coming |

- Thursday blogger Reflection on September 29 Sunday readings: Hear the Scriptures and repent The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus teaches that there is more to life than amassing a fortune thanks to unjust economical system or inheritance. It warns that luxurious living constructs “a great chasm” that prevents the flow of God’s mercy. However, it also states that there is a possibility of repentance. We can always turn to the Scriptures and listen to Moses, the Prophets, and Jesus. Repenting of our insatiable greed, we can bridge the great chasm of inequality and end up being carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom |

Making babies ... for Heaven |
|||
|
|||
John W mini-Blog |
Yesterday morning on way to metro, as I was congratulating myself on being so skilful at negotiating my way (with prison trolley full of books) along a crowded footpath (..not so simple in HK...) I noticed a pram (with a baby) come up beside me and start to pass me. I thought "that mother must have something urgent to do" ...because mothers with prams are very defensive pedestrians. Turned out the pram was being pushed by a man, presumably the baby's father. So I'd now like to formulate Einstein's Pram Theory: "Pram + haste = man". Please let me know if you see the theory being vindicated: a pram in a hurry means the pram is being pushed by a man?!? |
