From John W: due to extra work for asylum seekers and hospital patients - in addition to full time prison ministry - I need to cut back on the time I give to this website. In future the site will be much simpler. I have asked the site's kind weekly bloggers - Chris, Darlene and Martin - to change to "occasional" instead of "weekly" mode. All their previous articles can be accessed at links on right side of this page. I have also encouraged C, D & M to try posting on other sites which might give them a wider readership than this site. When Chris published an article on PrayTell not long ago, it attracted more than 70 comments. In future v2catholic will also focus more on the poor, and will encourage readers to increase concern about issues like these

Speaking of sheep ...... | Questions from a Ewe Survey says ... re 2015 Synod on the Family. After reading the survey questions ...and Ewe's comments ...I couldn't help thinking: this survey is unnecessary. Surely the bishops already know the answers to these questions. What's needed is not talk, but action (so stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes!?) |

The old time pastor was galloping down the road, rushing to get to church on time. Suddenly his horse stumbled and pitched him to the ground. In the dirt with a broken leg, the pastor called out, “All you saints in Heaven, help me get up on my horse!” Then, with superhuman effort, he leaped onto the horse’s back and fell off the other side. Once again on the ground, he called to Heaven, “All right, just half of you this time!” |

As I continue to become immersed in the world of HK's asylum seekers, I more clearly see why no one wants to help them ...and how difficult they are to help. But the longer they are not helped, the more complicated their cases become ... e.g. as single men start to father children by more than one refugee woman ....and such children often miss out on kindergarten and then cannot cope at primary school ....and by teenage years are easy prey for drug traffickers

Saints. So the kids arrived - one a little boy dressed up as St. Anthony, another as St. Joseph, a little girl as St. Clare - and then there was a kid in a dog costume. So Father asked "Where's your saint costume?" The little boy replied: "I'm SAINT BERNARD!" |

Yesterday as I was thinking about the Bible readings of yesterday's Bible Blog, when I thought about Moses and 70 others eating and drinking in God's presence, I began to wonder what did they eat and drink? Up to then in the desert they'd had only bread and birds (quails). Surely God didn't give them the same? And after that they had nothing but B&B for 40 years. They would have often remembered God's meal!

There are many instances when we face situations that trouble us, occasions personal to our families, and our own life story, when faith is tested and the consequences of the experience asks questions that take us out of our comfort zone. Then those oft repeated words “Do not be afraid” take on a whole new meaning. |
