Hello from St Paul's House of Prayer where I'm attending the monthly O.M.I. meeting for HK Oblates. We arrived yesterday afternoon and are pleased to be here on a feast of St Paul (see below, readings). After the meeting finishes with lunch today, I hope to visit nearby Lo Wu women's prison to hand in some items (... glasses, IDD cards, text books etc) ....chaplains not allowed to visit at the moment because of Covid restrictions, but I hope I can at least hand in my shopping list!
On
this day in 1816 in France was born the group that became the Oblates
of Mary Immaculate.
A good day for HK Oblates to be together!

c.f. readings for Feast of Conversion of St Paul
Isaiah
51-52: Pay attention
to me, you peoples. Listen to me, you nations. The islands put their hope in the
Lord. They put their trust in his strength. How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who
proclaims peace and salvation, and tells Zion "Your God is king!"
Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord is redeeming his
people. All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
Lord, may more and more people in more and more countries know you and love
you.
My
recording of this reading

Psalm
117: O Praise
the Lord, all you nations. Acclaim
him, all you peoples! Strong is his love for us. He is
faithful for ever.
May all the nations love and praise you, Lord
Recording
Acts
9.1-19: Paul kept up
his campaign against the Lord's disciples. He got the ok to arrest followers of
the Way in Damascus. But on his way to Damascus, a light from heaven surrounded
him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying "Paul, Paul, why are
you persecuting me?" He said "Who are you, Lord?" The voice
replied "I am Jesus, and
you are persecuting me. Go into Damascus and you will be told what to
do". Paul's eyes were open, but for more than a day he was without his
sight, and he ate and drank nothing. The Lord got Ananias, a disciple in
Damascus, to visit Paul and pray for him. The Lord said to Ananias "Paul
is my chosen instrument to bring my name to non-Jews and Jews. He will suffer
much for me". Ananias went to Paul and prayed for him
with the laying on of hands. Straight away, Paul could see again. Then Ananias
baptized him.
Jesus, please help me understand how
unkindness to others is unkindness to you
Recording

Mark
16.9-20: After he
rose from the dead, Jesus appeared first to Mary of Magdala, from whom he had
cast out 7 devils. Next he appeared to two of his disciples while they
were on a journey. Then he appeared to the 11 apostles. He said to them "Go
everywhere in the world. Proclaim the Good News to all creation. Anyone who
believes and is baptized, will be saved. Anyone who refuses to believe, will be
condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my
name they
will cast out devils, they
will have the gift of tongues, they
will pick up snakes in their hands, they will be unharmed if they drink
poison, they will lay their
hands on the sick, who will be healed". And so, the Lord Jesus,
after he had spoken to them, was taken up to heaven, while they, going out,
preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming their message by
the miracles that accompanied the message
Lord Jesus, may more and more people all over the world believe in you

A
mega prison for HK? (... not the first time a mega prison has been
suggested)
As the world continues to be devastated by Covid, there's
growing urgency to find out the source of the pandemic .... with a suggestion
that the ingredients used to produce the virus (if it began in a lab ... and
that's not 100% certain) might be used to stop it ... if
full info about those ingredients could be made public: *

1 Kings
1:
When King David was very old and near the end
of his life,
Absalom's brother Adonijah plotted to become king. The prophet Nathan therefore advised Bathsheba
to go to David and remind him that he had promised
to let Bathsheba's son Solomon become king. David then summoned the priests and royal
guards
and ordered them and Nathan to anoint Solomon as king.
Dear God, please give the world
good leaders
My

Psalm 149: Sing a new song to the Lord.
Let the praise of God be always on our lips. Praise God in his holy temple.
Praise him in the heavens. O praise him with sound of
trumpet.
Praise him with lute and harp.
Praise him with drums and dancing.
Praise him with strings and pipes.
Let everything that lives and
breathes,
give praise to the Lord our Creator. Alleluia!
Lord, to you we say every day

Matthew
9.35-37: Jesus went to many towns and villages.
In the local prayer halls he taught people
the Good News of God's kingdom.
He healed all sorts of diseases and sicknesses. He felt sorry for the ordinary people
because they were like sheep without a shepherd

"So many people don't have good leaders.
Pray to God to send good leaders".
Jesus, many countries have bad leaders.

Nehemiah
7-13: The wall of
Jerusalem was finally rebuilt and doors were set in place in the wall. In the
seventh month of the lunar calendar Nehemiah
assembled all the people and read to them the Book of the Law of Moses.
This was the first time that most of the people had heard the words of Moses'
Book. The people were grateful to God and praised him with great happiness. The
people also promised God that they would serve him more faithfully in the
future. But while Nehemiah was away on a visit to the king the people and
leaders became careless about the Law. When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem
he brought the people back to proper observance of the Law
Dear God, may we find joy and strength in reading the Bible and may the world
have more good leaders like Nehemiah

19: The heavens proclaim the
glory of God, the starry skies are the work of his hands. The stars can't speak,
but they are God's handwriting. The sun is God's love shining on the whole
world. The universe is a masterpiece, and so is God's law which shines in
our hearts. The
precepts of the Lord enlighten our
lives each day. The law of the Lord gives joy and wisdom to our hearts.
The decrees of the Lord are to be desired more than gold, they are sweeter than
honey, than honey from the comb. But often we are unaware of our
errors. Lord, please protect us from making mistakes.
Lord, may the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be

Samuel 16-24:
When David was living in exile,
some people helped him, some people insulted him.
To insult his father and to claim the kingship
Absalom publicly had sex with his father's concubines.
Gradually David was able to re-build his army
and his army defeated Absalom's soldiers in battle. In that battle, Absalom died

2 Samuel 14-15:
When David had finished his time of mourning
for Amnon,
he allowed Absalom to return to Jerusalem.
Only after two years did David agree to meet
Absalom.
He met him and pardoned him. But as time went on Absalom started to plot
against David.
Absalom gathered enough supporters to overthrow David. David found out about the plot and fled from
Jerusalem.

Psalm
147: Praise the Lord for he is good.
Sing to our God for he is loving. To him our praise is due. The Lord builds up Jerusalem
and brings back Israel's exiles. He heals the broken-hearted
and binds up all their wounds. The Lord raises the lowly
and humbles the wicked. He fixes the number of the stars.
He calls each one by name. Our Lord is great and almighty.
His wisdom can never be measured. He covers the heavens with clouds.
He prepares rain for the earth, making mountains sprout with grass
and with plants to serve our needs. His delight is not in horses
nor his pleasure in warriors' strength. The Lord delights in those who love and honor
him,
in those who wait for his love.
It is right and fitting to
praise and love you, Lord our Creator

Matthew
9.18-26: A prayer hall official came to Jesus and said
"My daughter has just died. Please come and lay your hand on her
and she will come back to life". As Jesus and his friends were following the
official to his home,
a woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years
came up behind Jesus and touched his clothing.
The woman had said to herself "If I can even touch his clothing, I will be healed".
Jesus knew what she was doing and said to her
"My daughter, your faith has healed you".
Instantly she was healed. When Jesus arrived at the official's house
he saw a crowd of people crying loudly. Jesus said to them "Get out of the house.
The little girl is asleep, not dead". The crowd laughed at
Jesus.
After the crowd had gone outside, Jesus went inside.
He took the little girl by the hand, and she stood up.
News of what had happened spread all round the district.

2 Samuel 12:
The Lord sent the prophet Nathan to David.
Nathan said: "Why did you do what is displeasing to the Lord?"
David replied: "I have sinned against the

because of your sin,
the child will die." After the child died, Bathsheba conceived
another son by David,
whom she named Solomon. The Lord specially blessed Solomon.

All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord,

and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall
and raises all who are bowed down. The eyes of all creatures look to you
and you give them their food each day. The Lord is close to all who call him,

"It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.
Go and think about the Bible words
'What I want is mercy, not sacrifice'. I have a special concern for rejects and
down-and-outs."
Jesus, please help religious
leaders in today's world
to care more about people who are rejected by society
Listen

Reflection: Every church should have a special concern for "rejects and down-and-outs"
