of U.S. Catholic Priests (AUSCP) Reform Group Charts Pragmatic Path In fact, the most controversial resolutions the priests voted for were a call to ordain women as deacons and for reintroducing general absolution for forgiving sins rather than restricting the rite of confession to a private one-on-one conversation with a priest. Those proposals have also been supported by a number of bishops. |

II Reflection 142 |
Sunday July 7 YouTube: Peace is flowing like a river (words of today's first reading)
“In the Christian life, even in the life of the Church, there are old structures, passing structures: it is necessary to renew them! And the Church has always been attentive to this, with dialogue with cultures . . . It always allows itself to be renewed according to places, times, and persons. The Church has always done this! From the very first moment, we remember the first theological battle: was it necessary to carry out all of the Jewish practices in order to be Christian? No! They said no! The gentiles could enter as they are: gentiles . . . A first renewal of the structures. . . . And so the Church always goes forward, giving space to the Holy Spirit that renews these structures of the churches. Don’t be afraid of that! Don’t be afraid of the newness of the Gospel! Don’t be afraid of the newness that the Holy Spirit works in us! Don’t be afraid of the renewal of structures!” |

Bishop:
Address priests' dissatisfaction with Mass prayers U.S. Catholic bishops "must take to heart" that the "vast majority" of U.S. priests are "extremely dissatisfied" with the current translation of the Roman missal. Some countries, including Germany and Italy, "still do not use the new missal." (...which means Pope Francis is not using new missal when he says Mass in Italian...jw) |

People such as the
Oblates in Bangladesh. See this
report which has the words: The capital city, Dhaka, suffered severe flooding in May and our scholastics’ residence too was under a foot of water. The nearby Oblate church remained dry and safe and the Oblates opened it to the people of the neighborhood. Families were happy that everyone could find refuge there, a dry place to live and sleep, until the water subsided from their homes. They found in the Oblates, who made no distinction about anyone’s religion, a warm welcome. They were surprised that all were welcome into a church when their own places of worship do not allow this |

Benedict
XVI joins Pope Francis in consecrating Vatican to St Michael Archangel "In the Vatican Gardens there are several works of art. But this, which has now been added, takes on particular importance, in its location as well as the meaning it expresses. In fact it is not just celebratory work but an invitation to reflection and prayer, that fits well into the Year of Faith. Michael - which means 'Who is like God' - is the champion of the primacy of God, of His transcendence and power" |

Africa blogger: Empathy
- A Great Gift People in pain need love and attention. I know many people from the continent will say that they have nothing to give. This is because they are thinking of what to give in terms of financial or material things. I therefore urge that we take care of the sick, not by thinking that we can take them to the hospital and leave them under the care of the medics and all shall be well, but by offering ourselves. Give your love; give your time as this may help them through their pain |

Pope
Francis July 3 homily: We
encounter the Living God through His wounds
Jesus tells us that the path to encountering Him is to
find His wounds in the body of our wounded brother ..... because he is
hungry, because he is thirsty, because he is naked, because he is
humiliated, because he is a slave, because he's in jail, because he is in
the hospital. Those are the wounds of Jesus today |

- Reflection on July 7 Sunday readings: What counts is a new creation What counts in our faith-life? Is it Paul’s new creation or two thousand years of tradition, codified in rules and norms, equalized with the message of the Gospel, and making others feel bad about themselves? Are those who claim that faith with our tradition is what counts any different from those Jews who claimed that faith with their tradition was what counted? |

An amazing talk -
why democracy is struggling in so many places, and why China continues to
advance. A tale of two political systems It's a standard assumption in the West: As a society progresses, it eventually becomes a capitalist, multi-party democracy. Right? Eric X. Li, a Chinese investor and political scientist, begs to differ. In this provocative, boundary-pushing talk, he asks his audience to consider that there's more than one way to run a successful modern nation
