Today is also the anniversary of one of the world's greatest missionaries...very few Catholics have ever heard of him: Hudson Taylor - he followed Matteo Ricci in respect and love for Chinese culture and language, in wearing Chinese dress (for which he was laughed at by other foreign missionaries in his early ministry), a great spirit of Ecumenism ("non-denominationalism") and he had a great trust in God - refusing to engage in fund-raising...his motto being: "God's work, done in God's way, will never lack God's supplies" ....a contrast to our modern way of running the Church like a business. He was responsible for more than 800 missionaries going to China ....and he laid the foundation for the phenomenal growth of evangelical house churches in China today | ||

Bungling
the Body and Blood If we fail to find our own ways to reverence the mystery of the Eucharist, it will fade away, like all neglected loves. The commonplace cannot convey it. And in a world where the rich try harder than ever to forget the poor, where neighborhoods are increasingly insular, we need to worry about eating and drinking judgement onto ourselves for our failure to recognize and to reverence the Christ who remains among us in those who suffer want. |

A
prophetic flicker out of Canada If I were to offer an alternative to the traditional parish, it would be to divide a parish into zones, and in those zones, create many "cell groups" of Catholic Base Communities who would not only come together to worship, but, who would be actively proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ beyond the perimeters of their basic communities. |
|
Full
text of Pope Francis' homily for the Solemnity
of the Body and Blood of Christ: Tonight we are the crowd of the Gospel, we seek to follow Jesus to listen to him, to enter into communion with him in the Eucharist. Let us ask ourselves: how do I follow I Jesus? Jesus speaks in silence in the mystery of the Eucharist and each time reminds us that following him means coming out of ourselves and making our life not our own, but a gift to him and to others |

Today is the anniversary of Dr Kenneth McAll who died on this day in

evidence of having read the back cover, and then uses extreme examples to
ridicule McAll. |

That's what makes the film particularly valuable for young audiences. I don't care if they leave the theater wanting to spell better, but if they have learned from Akeelah, they will want to live better." |

Thought for today:
God is to be discovered already present in a culture, in a
person's life .... not brought in from outside. Evangelisation is all about helping people discover the already present God whom they don't clearly know (c.f. Acts 17.23) All
over Africa south of the Sahara, Christianity has grown rapidly....one
vital factor being that when Bible texts were translated, the local name
for God was used. A new God was not being proclaimed, but good news
about the God whom people already worshipped |

Thursday reflection on
the Sunday readings, to help us prepare for Sunday: The Body and Blood of Christ - Remembering Jesus It is time that we enlarge our understanding of the Eucharist. It is not just about the Real Presence. It is much more than that. The Eucharist is about making Jesus’ vision for humanity real in our communities, by welcoming everyone, treating each person with dignity of a child of God, and by justly distributing the resources of the Earth among all. It is my conviction that's how Jesus would like to be remembered |

The dove, being
released by Papa Francesco, is gaining again the freedom of the skies and
there is immense joy on the face of Francis that he is giving the dove its
liberty. Each one of us who profess the Risen Christ has that freedom of the Spirit who now lives in us, freedom to act, to pray and to share the gift that is given us. And with that Spirit comes responsibility to be honest with each other, to care for each other and to give voice to the issues of conscience that beset our times.
